New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani made personal visits to public housing residents to make sure their apartments are up to code.

Mamdani knocked on residents’ doors with HPD code enforcement inspectors and the fire department to inspect apartments and ensure they are safe.

A camera crew captured the mayor’s interactions with residents.

The Daily Wire called Mamdani’s visits “Soviet-style photo ops.” But the residents seemed appreciative that someone in City government cares about their safety.

Mamdani urged residents to call the 311 system if they have any complaints about their landlords. He promised to “hold landlords accountable” for every complaint.

The visits aligned with Mamdani’s war on “private slumlords” who accept monthly rents without addressing residents’ complaints.

During his campaign for mayor, Mamdani promised to protect New York City renters and improve maintenance needs for residents living in squalor and unsafe housing.

However, landlords warn that Mamdani’s efforts will lead to skyrocketing rent and decreased rental revenue, which will drive them into bankruptcy.

Mamdani and the inspectors found 6 maintenance issues in one building, which were forwarded to the landlord.

So far, residents are happy with the new mayor.
