I tried the natural thing for a while because i have curly hair but I just couldn’t keep doing it. I only get perms 2 or 3 times a year though because they’re really not good for you. But just because a woman has a perm doesn’t mean her hair looks good. I’ve seen plenty of women with straight hair and it still looks a HOT A** MESS!

I am 33 and I judge off of visuals at first because I don’t know anything about you … nothing wrong with that. Visuals is why so many black women are single or raising kids alone … they go for the looks and not the breadth of the person. So us good looking guys can do as we please because the stable, ugly, intelligent, family first type guy over there will not get a chance with the pretty girls. BTW – I am attractive and getting married soon, just in case my status comes into question.

The music industry is based on looks THEN talent. I’ve seen many talented artist get pushed aside because they looked normal and weren’t “pretty” or edgy enough. Reason being, I am lighter skinned (not hispanic looking) but our women are always refering black is beautiful in regards to darker skinned women. I don’t feel like I want to “look” white because I relax my hair or doing it because self-consciously I have a slave mentality. I don’t wear a lot of make up because I am hiding my complexion, I think makeup is beautiful, I can enhance my natural features and change up my look. I’m caught in the middle about all the black women uplifting saga. Reason being, I am lighter skinned (not hispanic looking) but our women are always refering black is beautiful in regards to darker skinned women. I receive the most ridicule if not all from black women. I don’t feel like I have to be “natural” to be beautiful. IF you majored in English, you did not only read about black culture you read about ALL cultures. I’m not blacker because I read books written by Sojourner Truth, Alice Walker, Zora Neale-Hurston, Jamaica Kincaid…I can go on and on and on. It is not secret that the standard of beauty almost anywhere you go is light with “good hair” but I almost feel like now it is reverse racism in the black community. Like whoa is me, were dark so let’s hate and treat badly all people that are light. When you have bad feelings against someone because of anything you are really hating on the creator because he is from whom all things flow.
And what you think is a blessing to someone else, is actually a curse or a source of pain to them. For instance. I have had long curly hair my majority of my life. Well my whole life I have had people always touching, playing in my hair…I hated it (because I am super tender headed like to the point I would cry when I got it combed, I would beg my mom to just cut it off) I just wanted to be left alone like the other girls outside playing so then that turned in to people saying I think I’m cute or I thought I was better cuz I had good hair, which then turned into people cutting my hair, putting gum in it, throwing dirt in it and all this was like in the 2nd grade. I never even knew I had so called good hair until other folks made a big deal out of it. Same thing with skin color.
Everyone better just work on loving themselves and let God be their vindicators cuz this mess is for the birds. I mean really

This is my point exactly, because the whiteman uses color and hair texture to divide us, now darker skinned blacks hate lighter skinned blacks as if it something they asked for.

My point is the world is what it is. Light people that get what we see as favor, God made them that skin tone; he is also allowing them whatever blessings they may be getting based on whatever reason. We need to look further in to that and stop being divided with each other over skin tone. I though I did. If a legally you claim to not be black…I was under the impression that means you are a non-black. But if want to take it back to slavery…then I’ve addressed that also I’m only one generation from white but I claim black. Blacks received no reparations to restore us back to the wealth of our ancestors. Our forefathers were kings and queens living in a country filled with diamonds, oil and chocolate (not just beautiful dark chocolate skin) but most of the chocolate we eat in America comes from a cocoa plant grown in West Africa.

Just got in from Detroit. My daughter bought hubby and I tix for our Annivesary to see “The Time Reunion, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Jelly Bean, the whole crew. Jessie Johnson is a bad azz guitarist. Are we talking/thinking about the same litte girl? The 13 yr old I heard about is Nelson M. great grand daughter and she just turned 13 and got hit by a drunk driver after the game ended.

Hey Shauny!
I”m doing good, taking my last classes so that I can finally graduate this summer. I have senior-itis so I am dragging my feet and fighting like a kid to get all my assignments done.
And yes, the heat is definitely up in this joint for a while now, that’s why I don’t even bother commenting, just lurking. I recognize the heat, so I stay out of the kitchen…
Just wanted to drop a comment on the subject since it has been weighing on my mind a lot lately since where I live it’s been open season on anyone who is “hispanic” or can be labeled as such for the sake of hatred, pure and simple.
I have endured the most hateful behavior in reference to to just being ME for the past month or so and I can honestly say that I am at a lost for words sometimes. My spirit is broken to the point where as soon as we are financially able I want to move my family away from here but to where? MY KIND is not welcome anywhere than back on the island and I don’t want to raise my kids there (schools suck).
Anyway, let me get my Debbie Downer azz out of here, lol.
