People are convinced retired Navy Seal Robert Harward wore a silicone mask during an appearance on Fox News on Tuesday, May 19.

Harward, a retired vice admiral, discussed President Donald Trump’s military operations in Iran. Harward said Trump “controlled the narrative” with his blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.

But viewers were distracted by a shadow on Harward’s neck that they claim is the lower edge of a silicone mask.

The shadow sparked allegations that Harward was not who he said he was. Others claimed he was an alien wearing a human mask. Wild theories trended online on Wednesday and Thursday.

“Many have asked me what the hell is going on with this US Navy Admiral who appears to be wearing a skin mask on Fox,” one person said on YouTube. “I reviewed the raw broadcast to confirm it’s not edited or AI-generated, and it’s… strange. I can’t explain it.”

Another person wrote: “What in the Jim Carey have I just been looking at?”

A third person commented: “Are we going to pretend dude isn’t wearing a mask.”

Lifelike silicone masks are being sold on eBay and Amazon for hundreds of dollars.

However, media analysts say the unusual visual artifact can be explained by bright studio lighting, high-definition cameras, and other effects of television production.

“Age-related changes, such as natural skin laxity in the neck area, can also appear more pronounced under tight camera angles, sometimes creating the illusion of seams or separations.

“In higher-quality, full-length footage, Harward’s appearance and movements remain consistent and natural, including normal blinking and speech patterns, which are often lost or exaggerated in short viral clips.”
