When a pregnant Chicago teenager was shot in the head and dumped in a snowy alley on Christmas day, police believed she was the victim of a botched robbery attempt.
17-year-old Eva Casara was 26 weeks pregnant when she died on Dec. 26. Doctors delivered her baby girl who is in critical condition in a neonatal intensive care unit.
Hours after she died, Casara’s distraught family stood before news cameras pleading with the public to turn the girl’s killer in to police.
But after a thorough investigation, police now believe Casara planned to rob a drug dealer with her 16-year-old boyfriend, Anthony Lee.
Police say Casara, Darius D. Marshall, 19, Lee and his brother Diante Lamont Coakley, 21, all from Dolton, planned to meet a drug dealer and rob him of cash and drugs. But soon after Casara and Coakley joined the intended victim in his car, the dealer became suspicious and ordered Coakley out of the car. As the victim drove off, Coakley reportedly fired at the car hitting Casara who was sitting in the back seat.
The drug dealer later dumped Casara in an alley after he and his passenger heard her gurgling in the back seat. They drove off with her purse, cell phone, and money.
