Rickey Smiley pulled himself together to host his syndicated radio show on Monday morning, hours after his youngest daughter Aaryn Smiley was shot multiple times in Texas.
Aaryn was shot three times at a fast food restaurant in Houston on Sunday. Rickey fought back tears as he explained that he was in the process of booking a flight to Houston to see his daughter, who is recovering in a hospital.
"All the stuff these people trying to do to fight for the rights of Black people. This is no discredit to Black Lives Matter because I believe that and I'm with that movement 110% and one has nothing to do with the other, but there are some criminals in our community that someone needs to do something about," Rickey said.
He continued: "I just pray. I'm sitting up here a gunshot victim myself and I'm still up here fighting and praying for the rights of Black people and all of the parents that had to bury their loved ones due to gun violence in our own community by our own people. Absolutely disgusting."
The news comes as 31 people were shot and 5 killed during a weekend of violence in Atlanta. The Rickey Smiley Morning Show is based in Atlanta.
Rickey Smiley is taking back that meme he re-posted about society punishing Black boys for wearing dreadlocks while praising Black boys for wearing dresses.
In a meme posted on his Instagram page, the comedian wrote:
Black boy: I want to wear locks to school
Society: Suspended!!! No graduation THUG!!!
Black boy: How about a dress?
The meme concludes with the hashtag "#SocialEngineering."
Smiley was alluding to the recent controversy surrounding Deandre Arnold, the 16-year-old boy who was banned from attending his prom until he cut off his dreadlocks.
The popular host of the syndicated Rickey Smiley Morning Show appears to have caved to the pressure after trans groups and their heterosexual allies contacted his radio advertisers.
In a rambling video on YouTube.com, Rickey addressed the controversy, saying he didn't actually create the meme, he simply re-posted it.
After complaining about the cancel culture coming for him, and saying he shouldn't have to apologize for expressing his opinions in a free country, Rickey concluded by apologizing to anyone he offended.
So far, rappers Young Thug and Lil Boosie have no plans to apologize for expressing similar opinions about Dwyane Wade's son, Zaya Wade.

Rickey Smiley tackled the issue of society emasculating Black boys while penalizing Black boys for wearing their hair in dreadlocks.

The popular host of the syndicated Rickey Smiley Morning Show didn't caption his meme, but some of his followers called him out on wearing a dress during his comedy skits.

One IG follower wrote: "But Rickey didn't you wear a dress on multiple occasions?? i.e sister Bernice?? So I'm kinda lost."
Another wrote: "Black people are judging a black boy wearing a dress and whites are judging both. It's bad all the way around."
And a third wrote: "Every generation has its attack on minority masculinity. Birth of a nation. Civil rights, the project mentality of the 70s, the drugs in the 80s, gangs in the 90s. We didn't want our men violent. More drugs and the glamorization of self destruction of the 2000s now this."
Rickey Smiley has been hospitalized since Monday for undisclosed reasons. In an Instagram video posted on Wednesday, the 50-year-old comedian and radio personality updated his followers from his hospital bed.
Do you have your Thanksgiving dinner planned yet? Are you still searching online for good mouth watering recipes? Don't worry, Rickey Smiley has got your back!
Tavis Smiley lashed out at PBS for suspending him for accusations of sexual misconduct in the workplace. Late Wednesday night, the broadcaster and noted author took to social media to defend himself against the scurrilous accusations.
Smiley said PBS "overreacted" and launched a "sloppy investigation" into the allegations. He said he was "just as shocked" as everyone else about PBS's decision to suspend him.
Socialite Amber Rose hosted the End Of Summer Party at Sugar Factory American Brasserie on Friday, August 18, in Miami, Florida. The 33-year-old single mother reached out to one of Usher's accusers to invite her to attend her annual "Slut Walk" in Los Angeles.
R&B singer Trey Songz must have been desperate for attention yesterday. The 29-year-old singer-songwriter Tweeted bathroom pics of himself wearing nothing but his Calvin Klein underwear. He would've been better off leaving the photos in his cell phone. His dainty package is nothing to brag about.
But hours later, a more peculiar thing happened. Syndicated radio host Rickey Smiley, who is also in desperate need of attention, Photoshopped his head on Tremaine's body. I understand Rickey is a comedian, but what real man would Photoshop his head on another man's body? See the original photos after the break.
Syndicated radio host Rickey Smiley took calls from listeners who weighed in on singer/songwriter Akon's controversial comments on monogamous relationships.
In a recent interview, the 40-year-old Senegalese singer, who is reportedly married to multiple women, said monogamy is not only "stupid"; it's "impossible."
"I don't know no one woman that can satisfy every man's one need. It's impossible. Just like there's no man that can satisfy a woman's every need," said Akon. He added: "Women just aren't built to breed like that or... mate with more than one partner. Women aren't built that way, men are."
Of course Akon is correct. Since the beginning of time man has evolved by mating with multiple women to ensure the survival of future generations.
British singer Seal is on a cross country promo tour for his new album of 70s Soul classics, Soul 2, which dropped today in the U.S. The album was originally released in November 2011 in Europe.
On Sunday, Seal, 48, and his supermodel wife, Heidi Klum, 38, announced their separation after 7 years of marriage and 4 kids together. Coincidence or publicity stunt for his new album?
Yesterday, Seal was a guest on the 'Tavis Smiley Show' on PBS (he also stopped by the Ellen Show). On both shows, Seal talked about his new album, but the questions inevitably turned to the split between he and his wife.
Seal told Tavis that the separation did not make recording his album difficult. "just because you decide to separate... you don't stop loving each other. You don't... stop being friends," said Seal. He added: "What one has to do is remain civil to retain one's dignity... It's unfortunately a chapter of life."
Thanks to loyal reader Georgeanna M for this tip, since I don't follow syndicated radio morning show host Rickey Smiley on Twitter. I realize this is random, but it illustrates my point that certain celebrities who lack impulse control should give up their Twitters.
I'm laughing at Bennett College president Dr. Julianne Malveaux being "heartbroken" that Barack Obama didn't mention Martin Luther King or poverty in his DNC speech last night. Doesn't she know that Barack isn't running for president as a black man?
