Eliminate these foods to avoid high blood pressure during the holidays

The holidays are a joyful time of year for gatherings with family and good food. But it can also be a stressful time for people who have high blood pressure.

People with high blood pressure (hypertension) need to be extra cautious during the holidays. It’s easy to overdo it and eat foods you should avoid, such as fried food, processed food, deli meats and dairy products that are high in sodium and fat.

You may be invited to Christmas parties where food is served that will raise your blood pressure. You could end up spending Christmas at the emergency room.

The American Heart Association recommends a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, skinless poultry and fish, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products to manage your blood pressure.

Below are foods to avoid over the Christmas holidays to prevent hypertension, a heart attack or stroke

1. Salt and High-Sodium Foods (salted snacks, chips, canned soup, frozen dinners, fast food)

Photo of Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup

Read the nutrition label on the package for the sodium (salt) content. The American Heart Association recommends a sodium intake of less than 2,300 milligrams and ideally no more than 1,500 mg a day for most adults.

If the nutrition label says 500 mg of sodium, that means 500 mg of sodium per serving. A family size bag of chips contains 3 servings. That’s 1,500 mg of sodium.

2. Canned and Processed Meats (deli meats, bacon, sausage, hot dogs, ham, and smoked meats)

Avoid ordering meat at the deli counter in your grocery store. Chances are the turkey, chicken, ham and smoked meats are very high in sodium. Even the meat that is low sodium may contain hidden sodium.

If you are invited to a party where fried foods or deli meats will be served, bring your own healthy food that you cooked at home.

3. Foods High in Saturated and Trans Fats (high fat dairy products, butter, fried food, processed snacks)

Saturated fats are found in fatty cuts of meat, full-fat dairy products, butter, and lard.

Trans fats are found in many baked goods, margarine, fried foods, and some processed snacks such as potato chips.

These foods promote build up of plaque (cholesterol, fat, calcium) in your arteries making it hard for your heart to pump blood efficiently.

4. Sugary Foods and Beverages (snacks, cupcakes, candy, ice cream, sodas, fruit drinks, energy drinks, sweetened tea)

Sweets and desserts: Cakes, cookies, pastries, candy, and ice cream.
Sugary drinks: Sodas, sweetened juices, energy drinks, and sweetened teas.

Always read the nutrition label for sugar content per serving.

The American Heart Association recommends 36 grams of sugar daily for men and 35 grams daily for women. Read the nutrition labels for the sugar content per serving.

Remember, sugar is just as bad for your heart as salt. Sugar can cause hardening of the arteries, weight gain and insulin resistance, which can raise your blood pressure.

5. Alcohol (whiskey, gin, rum, beer, wine, vodka, cocktails)

ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGA

Moderate to heavy alcohol consumption can increase blood pressure and reduce the effectiveness of blood pressure medications.

6. Caffeine (coffee, energy drinks, certain teas)

Caffeine can cause short-term spikes in blood pressure, though its long-term effects on hypertension are less clear.

People with high blood pressure should avoid drinking coffee, energy drinks, and certain teas that contain caffeine.

Even small amounts of caffeine may raise your blood pressure.

Have a Merry Christmas and be safe!

Angela White, formerly Blac Chyna, announced she is single again after reuniting with ex-fiancé and baby daddy Rob Kardashian.

Angela announced their split in a cryptic post on Instagram. She posted a photo that shows her wearing a black fur coat and a neon green wig. She captioned the image: “Guess who’s ending the year single.”

The announcement comes after months of speculation about her and Rob’s relationship.

Angela, 37, was a keynote speaker at the Los Angeles Women’s Expo in October. A moderator asked her if she was getting back together with Rob, 38, with whom she shares 9-year-old daughter Dream.

At the time, Angela said she and Rob were “on the path” of getting back together.

“We’re healing and we’re communicating and we’re just going with the flow. And if God be, then it will be something,” she said.

The moderator noted she was with Angela and Rob at Universal Studios, and she couldn’t help but notice how they were laughing and “in their own little world.”

“Robert’s so funny,” Angela said. “He’s actually hilarious.”

“I feel like you’re on the path on getting back together,” the moderator told her

“Alright you guys y’all heard first, we’re on the path. We’re on the journey!… You hear that Rob?”, Angela said before forming a heart with her hands.

“We’re just taking our time, you know what I mean? I’m excited… He’s my person. I just gotta work on myself, we gotta work on ourself,” she added.

Former child actor Tylor Chase has been homeless for years since falling on hard times. He is best known for his role as a fast-talking nerd on Nickelodeon’s show “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide”.

Now 36, Tylor roams the streets of Riverside, California, eating out of garbage cans and picking up discarded items off the streets. He sleeps wherever he can and allegedly buys drugs with the money kindhearted people give him.

Footage of Tylor circulated on social media over the weekend, and celebrities reached out with offers of help.

Actor Shaun Weiss, who played Goldberg in “The Mighty Ducks,” offered to help Tylor if he would enter drug rehab. But Tylor declined.

Then Tylor’s former co-star, Daniel Curtis Lee drove 50 miles to Riverside to track Tylor down.

Daniel brought a cameraman to film their reunion.

TMZ published an emotional video of Daniel checking Tylor into a Riverside motel for the night.

Daniel tells TMZ that he spent part of the day with Tylor walking around and catching up over pizza before checking him into the motel.

Daniel says he plans to stay in touch with Tylor and support him whenever he can.

But X users criticized Daniel for filming Tylor for social media clout.

They say Daniel and his castmates knew Tylor was homeless months ago – and Daniel only helped Tylor after he went viral this week.

Daniel spoke about Tylor’s homeless situation on a podcast back in September. Fans wonder why he didn’t offer to help Tylor then.

Daniel even said he was “upset” because someone “put a camera on [Tylor’s] face in hard times.”

Influencer Colin Rugg also shamed Daniel for filming Tylor.

Colin tweeted: “Hopefully this filming trend can end and they can actually get him into a rehab center.”

X user @ManiamAkash wrote: “Wonderful gesture but they need to stop recording this man’s distress and broadcasting it.”

User @jdaley5487 wrote: “And a camera had to be there every step of the way…People really can’t be decent human beings in these times without being incentivized with clicks and likes, huh?”

@Breadddman wrote: “The people that film themselves helping him for clout are worse than the people who sold him the drugs imo.”

X user @borgirqing wrote: “How can anybody hate this. This is so wholesome.”

Amber Rose came out in support of rapper Nicki Minaj’s affiliation with the conservative movement.

Amber said Nicki has the right to choose her political affiliation.

Speaking with TMZ about Nicki’s appearance with Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk at AmericaFest on Sunday, Amber said Nicki did a great job.

“I think she did a great job, an amazing job,” Amber said. “We live in a free country. She has a right to her own political opinion just like everyone else does.”

Amber, who spoke at the Republican National Convention in 2024, said Nicki didn’t disparage the LGBTQ+ community when she said boys should be boys.

“She didn’t say anything wrong. She didn’t say anything about the LGBTQ+ community at all. Why do people think anyone over there is homophobic? I’m not homophobic, my assistant has been with me for 11 years; he’s Black and gay. I have a bunch of trans friends — so does Nicki.”

Amber added: “I don’t know why people twist our words or think because we endorse Trump that we just hate gay people and trans people. That’s just not true.”

During Nicki’s appearance at the convention, she praised President Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

“I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president,” Nicki said. “I don’t know if he even knows this, but he’s given so many people hope that there’s a chance to beat the bad guys and to win, and to do it with your head held high and your integrity intact.”

The rapper praised JD Vance and Trump for not losing “touch of the world” and their ability “to still connect and be real and make us feel proud to be American.”

Update: DK Metcalf Loses Appeal. 2-Game Suspension Upheld. $45 Million in Future Guaranteed Money Voided

Steelers wide receiver DeKaylin Zecharius “DK” Metcalf lost his appeal after punching a Detroit Lions fan during Sunday’s Steelers vs Lions game.

Am appeals officer upheld his 2-game suspension on Tuesday. DK is out for the season and will lose $45 million in future guaranteed money.

Cell phone footage shows DK, 28, grab the blue-haired fan and punch him before walking away.

Video of the altercation quickly went viral, and angry Lions fans demanded action from the league.

The NFL suspended DK for the final 2 games of the season for violating league policy.

Specifically, he violated the policy that states “players may not enter the stands or otherwise confront fans at any time on game day and … if a player makes unnecessary physical contact with a fan in any way that constitutes unsportsmanlike conduct or presents crowd-control issues and/or risk of injury, he will be held accountable.”

Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said he understood why DK punched the fan.

“He did explain to me why he did what he did. I certainly don’t condone the behavior, but I support DK,” Tomlin told a reporter.

The 2-game suspension will cost the star wide receiver 2 paychecks worth about $555,000. But the suspension also voids more than $45 million in future guaranteed money in DK’s contract with the Steelers, according to @jonathanjonesnfl of CBS.

The suspension falls under “conduct detrimental,” language in his contract that wipes out future guarantees tied if he is ever suspended by the league.

DK played college football for the Ole Miss Rebels and was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft. He was traded to the Steelers in 2025.

Venus Williams is officially off the market! The tennis legend and actor Andrea Preti were married in 2 wedding ceremonies – in Italy and Florida.

They went Instagram official in July 2024, and Venu, 45, confirmed their engagement in July 2025 during a post-match interview, PEOPLE reports.

The first wedding took place on Sept. 18 in Ischia, Italy, a city that Denmark-born Andrea, 37, loves.

“We had this dream to do our wedding in Italy, but we didn’t have enough time to do the paperwork — because I’m a foreigner, it can take about eight months,” Venus told Vogue magazine. “So we decided to have a second wedding.”

The second ceremony was held in Palm Beach, Florida, where Venus calls home. The event featured a week full of festivities leading up to the big wedding. The festivities was planned by the same event firm that worked on her sister Serena Williams’ wedding in 2017, PEOPLE reports.

Venus (left) said Serena was right in the midst of the event planning.

“They always say weddings go so fast, and they do,” Venus told Vogue. “We started on Monday. Serena gave us this gift of a beautiful yacht, and she arranged all the food, everything. We had 10 to 12 of our closest family and friends who were in town on the boat, and we were singing, dancing, gossiping, and just enjoying each other.”

In 2022, Venus, then 41, announced she was still a virgin – due to the pain she suffered from undiagnosed fibroids.

“It is funny because Venus decided as a child that she would wait until she finds her husband before having sex,” said a source. “Serena did not go that route.”

Venus kissed many frogs before she married her prince. She previously dated golfer Hank Kuehne, Cuban model Elio Pis, and publishing heir Nicholas Hammond.

Troops Celebrate $1,776 Holiday Bonus Checks. Are $2,000 Tariff Checks Coming Soon?

Over 1.4 million active duty U.S. service members received holiday bonus checks in the amount of $1,776 from the U.S. government.

1776 is the year the United States declared its independence from Great Britain. Independence Day in America is celebrated on the 4th of July.

President Trump announced the bonus holiday checks for active duty military members when he addressed the nation from the Oval Office last week.

Actually, the bonus checks began hitting bank accounts even before Trump’s speech.

Service members took to social media to celebrate their bonus checks on Friday, December 19.

Critics who said the troops would never see their $1,776 checks are silent now that the money is hitting bank accounts.

Americans are happy to see the troops celebrating their unexpected windfall. But whatever happened to the $2,000 tariff rebate checks that Trump promised?

The Trump administration said the $2K tariff checks will begin rolling out at the start of the new year. The checks will be funded from billions of dollars in tariff revenue.

In a statement, White House spokesperson Kush Desai said, “The Administration is committed to putting the federal government’s historic tariff revenue to good use for the American people.”

On Nov. 17, Trump announced $2,000 dividend checks for “individuals of moderate income,” defined as households earning $55,820 to $167,460 annually.

In addition to the $2,000 tariff checks, Trump is expected to announce $3,000 tariff checks in 2026, likely before midterms.

The Trump administration also announced a $12 billion bailout fund for farmers earlier in December, Yahoo Finance reported. Trump said the farmer bailout “would not be possible without tariffs.”

Thanks to the Big Beautiful Bill, Americans earning less than $15,000 don’t have to file a tax return in 2026.
