Pastor Jamal Bryant responded to criticism over a nude tone dress he picked out for his wife to wear to the UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball on December 20 in Atlanta.

Social media users nitpicked the fancy stretch mesh gown worn by New Birth Missionary Baptist Church first lady, Dr. Karisha “Karri” Turner.

The lingerie-style frock looked great on Karrisha, but Instagram users were surprised that she wore it out of the house.

Pastor Bryant addressed the controversy from the pulpit during the megachurch’s New Year’s Eve service on Wednesday. He defended his wife’s decision to wear the dress that he bought and approved for the gala.

“Wear your dress, Karisha,” Pastor Bryant said, as he shut down all criticism of his curvaceous wife’s attire.

“I needed to get this straight, I needed to deal with it head on, because the other day the Internet went crazy about a dress my wife had on,” he said.

“Now they didn’t say anything about the 4 million dollars that was raised for the United Negro College Fund. They never mentioned that she prayed until Heaven came down. They never said anything about this was the largest fundraiser for … HBCUs in the country,” he continued.

Bryant called the fashion critics “insecure, jealous, petty, small-minded” people who need to mind their own business. The congregation cheered and applauded Bryant for defending his wife’s honor.

He added: “People got in their feelings and set up a false barometer of Holiness based off of a dress. Now you’ve gotta help some people because some people have embraced the full knowledge of ignorance without any assistance for understanding.”

Bryant clarified that Karisha’s dress was not see-through, “the dress was flesh color. But because you ain’t never been nowhere and ain’t never been exposed to nothing – I needed to set the record straight. Y’all don’t like this. I need to set the record straight: I bought the dress and I like it. I don’t care whether y’all like it or not. She ain’t married to y’all, she married to me!”

Church members leaped to their feet yelling “Amen!” and sanctifying the pastor’s words.

Karisha commented under an Instagram video of their big night out.

“My honey and I had a blast last night doing what we both love, celebrating and giving back to HBCU’s! Nobody does this better than @uncfatlanta [applaud emojis]. The 2026 Mayor’s Masked Ball was one for the books and The Bryant’s were thrilled to be apart of it! P.S. Baby I couldn’t breathe lol but the dress and I made it through.”

However, social media critics pointed to the verse 1 Timothy 2:9–10 in the Bible, which instructs women to dress modestly, with decency.

1 Timothy 2:9-10
King James Version:
“I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.”

Comedian says we must respect aging icons like Beyoncé, not tear them down

Comedian Godfrey slammed Black audiences who age-shame Black artists like Beyoncé, 44, and Monica Arnold, 45.

Godfrey spoke out after seeing comments on social media like “Beyoncé looks old.”

Kym Illman/Getty Images

He said Beyoncé deserves the highest level of respect because she’s earned it after decades of tireless work on stage and in film. She continues to perform at the highest level. Yet, some in the Black community choose to focus on her age instead of her art.

The anti-Trump comedian noted that white artists who age badly are celebrated by their fans. But Black artists face jokes, age-shaming, or criticism.

“Beyoncé doesn’t have to prove herself to anyone,” Godfrey said in the video. Still, she continues to push herself artistically and physically with each performance. He emphasized that her dedication and impact on music should silence any age-related criticism.

Godfrey pointed out that Beyoncé has done more than enough to earn grace and admiration. Instead of nitpicking her appearance, he called for fans to recognize her greatness. She should be celebrated—not torn down—for continuing to give her all on stage.

He also praised older artists who continued to perform well into their senior years, such as R&B singers Gladys Knight (pictured) and Patti LaBelle as examples of legends who are still performing in their 80s. Godfrey said to give these artists their flowers now — not after they’re gone.

Comedy fans flooded the comments section in support of Godfrey’s remarks. One viewer wrote, “We always criticize our own so quickly and make allowances for others so easily.”

Another added, “We’re all getting older… should count it a blessing.”

A third person commented, “We got a lot of ignorance and jealousy in our culture as a people.”

Eurweb.com wrote:

“Beyoncé has spent decades redefining pop culture and excellence in performance. Instead of focusing on age, fans should focus on her unmatched work ethic and artistry. If respect is due, Beyoncé has more than earned it.”

Police in Nigeria arrested the driver of the black SUV involved in a car accident that injured British boxing champ Anthony Joshua (left) and killed 2 of his friends.

“Kayode Adeniyi, the Lexus SUV driver involved in the fatal car crash that injured Anthony Joshua, killed Latif Ayodele, and Sina Ghami must face prosecution for reckless driving, while the driver + owner of the stationary truck the Lexus collided with should be identified and persecuted.”

Adeniyi, 47, is charged with reckless driving, according to the DailyMail. He was discharged from Lagoon Hospital in Lagos on New Year’s Eve and taken into custody.

The crash occurred on Monday, December 29, in Lagos. Police said a tire burst on the SUV causing it to lose control and collide into the parked truck.

“That led to loss of control before the vehicle now swerved and rammed into the stationary truck that was parked. There was excessive speed,” said Babatunde Akinbiyi, a spokesperson for Ogun State’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency.

The impact crushed the front passenger side of the SUV and sheared off both passenger side doors. Joshua’s friends, Sina Ghami and Kevin “Latz” Ayodele, died instantly. One of the men was decapitated in the crash.

Sources say the driver of the parked truck jumped out of the truck and fled the scene. A manhunt is underway for the truck driver.

However, Nigerians say law enforcement used “selective justice” in this case.

One X user wrote: “I do not appreciate selective justice. How many commercial drivers who survived an accident have you detained for questioning?”

Joshua and the driver are seen below moments after the fatal crash.

Joshua was treated and released from Duchess International Hospital in Lagos on Wednesday.

His friends’ bodies were shipped to the UK on Thursday for burial.

Former NBA player awarded custody of his son after his ex-girlfriend put hit out on him

Former Lakers star Christian Wood was awarded temporary sole custody of his 2-year-old son after accusing his ex-girlfriend, Yasmine Lopez, of making an attempt on his life.

Christian alleges that Yasmine hired hit men to kill him and disguise it as a home break-in.

Intruders broke into his residence in November using a pizza delivery driver to determine if he was at home.

Yasmine adamantly denied the accusation after Christian filed for a restraining order against her in November.

Christian said several men tried to break into his home “when someone knew I would be home in broad daylight”.

“The only reasonable conclusion is that they were there to kill me.”

Katelyn Mulcahy/Getty Images

According to a search warrant obtained by TMZ, a Domino’s delivery driver arrived at Christian’s residence in Sherman Oaks, California, on November 5.

Christian, 30, was home at the time, but he did not answer the door because he wasn’t expecting a pizza to be delivered.

Soon after the delivery driver left, three intruders wearing masks broke into the home, but they retreated to a getaway car after Christian fired 3 shots.

“I genuinely believed I was going to die,” he said.

Police contacted Domino’s Pizza and were told that a driver attempted to deliver a pizza at Christian’s address.

Domino’s said someone called the store to see if the pizza had been delivered.

Police were unable to link the phone number to an individual.

Christian said that one hour before the break-in, Yasmine posted “a violent King Von song with a gun emoji” on social media.

“The lyrics of the song explicitly describe a murder for hire and retaliation killing,” he noted. “This post was highly unusual for Ms. Lopez, suspicious in timing, and deeply disturbing given what happened shortly after.”

Christian added, “The coincidence, combined with her prior threats, history of violence, and the custody interference the day prior, leads me to reasonably believe it is more likely than not that she is responsible and/or connected to the attempt on my life.”

Christian submitted text messages from Yasmine to the court. In one message, “she goes on to say that she hopes I die and she will tell our son that I am dead. Ms. Lopez continues with her messages by saying she hopes someone shoots me.”

“These threats were not isolated or emotional outbursts, they are a pattern of her hostility, fixation, retaliation, and intimidation.”

In November, the Ohio Supreme Court upheld a lower court’s decision ordering Christian to pay Yasmine $25,000 a month in child support.

Christian played college basketball at UNLV and went undrafted in 2015. He played for nearly a dozen NBA teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers. He was released by the Lakers in February after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his knee.

Happy New Year: 10 People & Things To Leave Behind in 2025

Happy New Year to my Roses and Thorns! Have a healthy and prosperous New Year! Thanks for making Sandrarose.com your blog home in 2025.

In 2023, I listed the 10 People & Things to Leave Behind in 2022. I hit the nail on the head with most of my list!

Mike Coppola/Getty Images

Topping my list of people to leave behind in 2022 was Beyoncé. In 2024, Beyoncé confirmed she was pulling back from public life. She also explained why she stopped making music videos.

No. 2 on my list to leave behind in 2022 was the term “Woke.” Unfortunately, liberals brought their wokeness into 2023 and 2024, where it died a slow death. Americans drove a nail in Woke’s coffin in the 2024 presidential elections.

Nathan Howard/Getty Images

COVID was No. 3 on the list to leave behind in 2022. RIP to the biggest psyop (psychological operation) in world history.

ROBYN BECK/AFP via Getty Images

Disgraced actor Will Smith was No. 4 on the list to leave behind in 2022 for his slap seen around the world.

APEX / MEGA

No 5. to leave behind in 2022 was Cardi B. But Cardi’s fans refused to cooperate. So I will add her to my list of people to leave behind in 2025.

Paras Griffin/Getty Images

Singer and Instagram model Monica Arnold was No. 6 on my list of people to leave behind in 2022. But she roared back from obscurity and went on a successful “The Boys Is Mine” tour with singer Brandy in 2025.

BACKGRID

Kim Kardashian was No. 7 on the list to leave behind in 2022. But like Monica, she refused to stay put in 2022.

The Manosphere was No. 8 on my list to leave behind in 2022. I wrote, “It’s time to say goodbye to the manosphere. Nothing good comes from an ideology that promotes toxic male misogyny.” But I admit that I was wrong about the manosphere. Your auntie browses the manosphere daily because that’s where weak men gather to reveal their secrets and their fear of women.

John Lamparski/WireImage

Sean Combs was No. 9 on my list of people to leave behind in 2022. Karma finally caught up to him in 2025.

Alex Wong/Getty Images

Dr. Fauci completed my list of people to leave behind in 2022 for orchestrating the 2019 COVID psyop. He officially retired on January 1, 2023.

Below is my list of 10 People & Things To Leave Behind in 2025.

10. Chicago (the murder rate, not the city)
9. Cardi B
8. Jay-Z
7. Megan Thee Stallion
6. The terms “cook”, “cooked” and “cooking”
5. Gaming (you men are too grown to play children’s games)
4. Kim Kardashian
3. Minnesota (the massive fraud, not the state)
2. “Leslie” and “Eva” (annoying characters on Beyond the Gates)
1. AI

Share your list in the comments. Your list might make my 2027 New Year post!

FYI: 90% of you want to leave Trump in 2025. But you’ll have to wait until another president is elected in 2028.

Georgia police warn against celebratory gunfire on New Year’s Eve

Fulton County, Ga. police warn they will arrest anyone who celebrates New Year’s Eve by firing guns into the air.

Fulton County Solicitor General Keith E. Gammage said celebratory gunfire causes deaths, injuries, and property damage.

“What goes up must come down — and too often, falling bullets injure or kill innocent people who are simply celebrating or resting in their homes,” Gammage said in a statement.

He said celebratory gunfire causes “catastrophic consequences.”

“This New Year’s Eve, celebrate with joy — not gunfire. Choose fireworks displays, music, gatherings with loved ones, and safe traditions. Let’s start the new year without preventable tragedy.”

The solicitor general’s office said gun owners can’t control where a bullet fired into the air will land.

Savannah, Georgia police also warned against celebratory gunfire.

“We just don’t want people to get hurt. It’s a safety issue,” Savannah Police Department (SPD) Sgt. Barry Lewis said. “Sometimes we’ll get people who will take their car, drive down Abercorn or something and shoot up in the air. It happens.”

Lewis said Savannah police will be on high alert this New Year’s Eve. They are often notified by neighbors or ShotSpotter reports.

People who are caught shooting into the air can be charged with reckless conduct, aggravated assault or involuntary manslaughter.

One of the tools used by law enforcement agencies is ShotSpotter, a gunfire locator service that alerts police to celebratory gunfire on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

“A consequence is you can go to jail. Another consequence is you can hurt somebody to the point of death and they’ll be accountable and go to prison,” Lewis said. “And the idea of taking somebody’s life will be on their conscience.”

Americans have been killed by bullets that rain down on their homes during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

In 2025, a 32-year-old Houston woman was shot in the leg by celebratory gunfire on New Year’s Day, and, in 2024, a 12-year-old Houston girl was injured by a stray bullet on Christmas Eve.
