Montgomery County Jail, Facebook

Former Virginia Tech linebacker Isimemen Etute is back playing football after a jury cleared him of murdering a Tinder date.

The jury in May acquitted the then-19-year-old athlete of killing Jerry Smith, a 40-year-old gay man who identified as a 21-year-old woman to trap unsuspecting college students on Tinder.

Etute is set to play football this fall at Iowa Western Community College, ESPN reports.

Etute's attorney James Turk confirmed the news to ESPN. Turk said it was difficult finding a Division 1 school willing to take a chance on Etute following his arrest and murder trial.

During his emotional closing argument, Turk suggested that Etute was the victim.

"I think he's earned the right to go back to school and further his academic and sports career," Turk told reporters outside the courthouse. "I think the school that ends up taking him is going to get probably a lot wiser and a much smarter and an exceptional athlete."

Etute was 18 when he connected with Smith on Tinder. Smith presented himself as an emergency room physician named Angie Renee.

After Smith performed oral sex on Etute, the two men engaged in anal intercourse. Etute said Smith kept the lights off in his apartment and hid his face.

Smith paid the college athlete $50 for the encounter. Etute stopped returning Smith's texts when he heard rumors around town that Smith was a man.

Etute said he went back to Smith's apartment on May 31, 2021, to find out whether he was a male or a female, police said.

After confirming his suspicion that Smith was a male, Etute punched him five times and kicked him when he thought Smith was reaching for a gun, according to his defense attorney.

The gay panic defense has been used successfully in other murder cases. But it is banned in many jurisdictions.

Shedeur Sanders (right) is the new face of Gatorade. The sports drink giant signed Sanders to a multi-year partnership, making him the first HBCU student-athlete in the company's history.

Gatorade announced the historic deal with the 19-year-old Jackson State University quarterback on Friday.

Sanders ā€” the son of NFL icon and current Jackson State football coach Deion Sanders ā€” joins tennis champ Serena Williams, NBA stars Jayson Tatum and Zion Williamson, and the WNBA's Candace Parker on the Gatorade roster.

Sanders told HBCU Nation that he is "honored to be a part of the Gatorade family. First and foremost, I'm blessed. It's a great opportunity. As a kid, I was drinking Gatorade regularly. So now that we have the opportunity to partner with them and be a part of Gatorade, Iā€™m very blessed."

He said the deal will "definitely be helping other HBCUs. This is about the numbers. It's about to go crazy. So right now, we're still planning on the exact details. I'll just let you know whenever we got things finalized."

Sanders helped lead Jackson State football to an 11-2 record in 2021 and a SWAC championship.

Ohio State University has banned a female massage therapist after she reportedly had sex with multiple Ohio State Buckeyes football players.

The university banned the massage therapist whose license was revoked by the state following an investigation, including interviews with individual players.

Ohio State released the following statement on Thursday, alleging the massage therapist targeted football players in a scheme to engage in sexual acts with them.

"In March 2021, the university became aware that the State Medical Board of Ohio investigated an independent massage therapist who engaged in inappropriate and exploitative behavior targeting members of the Ohio State football team. The university has confirmed that the Medical Board has taken action, and this individual has had her license permanently revoked...

"Her actions were part of a scheme to exploit football student-athletes and were in violation of her state license. In addition, Ohio State does not believe the massage therapist's actions trigger NCAA rules or form the basis for NCAA violations. While no self-reporting is required, Ohio State proactively shared the exploitative behavior with the NCAA, and a report has been made to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office." Read more...

A Tennessee football coach was fired after he mocked failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams in a tweet, according to ABC News.

Chris Malone, an offensive line coach for Tennessee-Chattanooga, sent the tweet on Tuesday night after the Democrats swept the Senate runoff elections in Georgia.

"Congratulations to the state GA and Fat Albert @staceyabrams because you have truly shown America the true works of cheating in an election, again!!! Enjoy the buffet Big Girl! You earned it!!! Hope the money was good, still not governor!"

Head coach Rusty Wright and athletic director Mark Wharton both issued statements admonishing Wright.

"Last night, a totally inappropriate social media post by a member of our football staff was brought to my attention," UTC athletic director Mark Wharton said in a statement Thursday morning. "The entire post was appalling. The sentiments in that post do not represent the values of our football program, our athletics department or our university. With that said, effectively immediately, that individual is no longer a part of the program."

"Our football program has a clear set of standards," Wright said in a statement. "Those standards include respecting others. It is a message our players hear daily. It is a standard I will not waiver on. What was posted on social media by a member of my staff is unacceptable and not any part of what I stand for or what Chattanooga Football stands for."

Abrams has been mocked by Trump supporters since losing the Georgia governor's race to Brian Kemp in 2018, becoming the first Black woman to run for governor.

The annual Egg Bowl college football rivalry between Ole Miss and Mississippi State ended in bitter defeat for Ole Miss because of the selfish act of one player.

Ole Miss was down 21-14 when wide receiver Elijah Moore scored a touchdown with four seconds remaining in regulation.

With Mississippi State holding on to a slim 21-20 lead - and with Moore's family watching on Thanksgiving Day - Moore crawled to the back of the end zone on all fours, raised his leg and pretended to pee like a dog.

Moore was hit with an unsportsmanlike penalty, setting the ball back 15 yards further than normal for a 2-point conversion try. Ole Miss had to settle for an extra point kick to possibly tie the game. But Luke Logan's extra point kick missed wide right, giving MSU the win that clinched bowl eligibility with a 6-6 record for the season.

After the game, Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke called Moore "a good kid who got caught up in the moment." He said Moore's dog pee celebration was "disappointing" and "not who we are" as a team.

But ESPN analyst Louis Riddick called Moore's stunt the "ultimate act of selfishness". Odell Beckham was also flagged for doing the same thing during an NFL game.

Rose Bowl

The Georgia Bulldogs knocked off the Oklahoma Sooners in a thrilling 54-48 double-overtime win at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. on Monday.

Migos rapper Quavo Huncho, center, was in the house to congratulate the Bulldogs, who now face the daunting Alabama Crimson Tide for the mythical national championship.

It's called the "mythical national championship" because there is no playoff system in NCAA college football, therefore the champion didn't beat the best to advance to the title game.
