Aretha Franklin Feels Dissed By Beyoncé

Aretha Franklin expressed her outrage at being snubbed by Beyoncé during the 50th Annual Grammy Awards telecast last Sunday. Ms. Franklin took offense to Beyoncé introducing Tina Turner as “the queen” during their duet together.

Here’s what the legendary queen of soul had to say about Beyoncé’s royal snub:

“I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyoncé, however I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy. In addition to that, I thank the Grammy’s and the voting academy for my 20th Grammy and love to Beyoncé anyway.” (Source)

Well now Mrs. Aretha is the “Queen of Soul”. I don’t think it was done intentionally to snub her either. She was probably reading what they wrote for her but, maybe she should’ve said, the “Queen of Rock and Roll”.

And I know Miss Aretha is the queen but does she really need to talk about someone not acknowledging her as the queen?? I know she has about 40 + decades in the business, but damn, wheres the humility?

Beyonce did not say the “Queen of Soul.” She simply introduced Tina as the Queen which she is in her own right. So I don’t understand where the disrespect comes from. Also, Beyonce mentioned Aretha when she was roll calling all the greats. Once again, people are stirring up foolishness.

Beyonce is just a pretty face. When you drop names like you know/study/love these icons, you’ve got to know what you’re talking about. I was surprised Bey dropped those names because she was only slated to do something for Tina. She overdid it and didn’t know what she was talking about. I figure there must have been some kind of background story to this that we are not privvy to. Otherwise it makes no sense for Aretha to be upset. B didn’t call her Tina the Queen of Soul. She just called her the queen. Aretha’s statement just doesn’t make sense, but I’m gonna try to give her the benefit of the doubt and say we don’t know the whole story.

This so silly! Aretha Franklin does not have the queen title on lock. There are others beside her, like Patti LaBelle,Gladys Knight, Diana Ross and a host of others. Tina Turner is also another one. I am sure this is another way for Sandra to try and belittle Beyonce.

The queen title is not bestowed on everyone and I don’t know how anyone gets it, but only a handful of people are actually known as the King or Queen of their genre and once they got that title no one has been able to take it from them. Nor have I ever heard anyone mix up Aretha and Mary’s titles.

Elvis – simply The King
James Brown – The King of Soul
Aretha – The Queen of Soul
Michael Jackson – The King of Pop
Mary J. – The Queen of Hip Hop & R&B

Did I leave anyone out? My point was it’s not a title that has been thrown around loosely and I guess Aunt Ree Ree took it a little too seriously in thinking another artist couldn’t be referred to as a queen at all without offending her and I guess Mary.

I may have heard of the Donna Summer thing although I don’t remember. I know I have never heard Tina referred to as the Queen of Rock. So what I did was Googled all the phrases. When you do the applicable artist is what pops up in numerous sites including Donna Summer. Not the case with Tina. Apparently she was in a movie that was titled the Queen of Rock and Roll, but that is the only thing that came up and only once. I also found that Mary’s actual title is the Queen of Hip Hop Soul even though she also popped up the way I listed it previously.

I woke up this morning and got ready for work. When it was time for me to leave my car wouldn’t start. My first thought was Damn Beyonce! So I had to walk to work and half way there it started to rain. Again I thought Damn Beyonce! Why is this heifer always trying to ruin my life? Like most people, usually those who hate on B, I love blaming her for everything bad that happens in my life, even if deep down inside I know she had nothing to do with it.
