Blogger Learns the Hard Way: Don’t Mess With Mariah’s Music

UPDATED: Now that “Touch My Body” has officially premiered on that Chicago radio station, here’s the link to the song.

Most hard core Mariah fans know that her first single “Touch My Body” off her upcoming album (renamed) E=MC², will debut today on a Chicago radio station between 4 and 5 PM.

But yesterday, a popular blogger got his hands on a snippet of the track and uploaded it to his Blogspot-hosted blog. Big mistake. Once the powers that be over at Mariah’s label found out about the unauthorized leak, the skies opened up and rained down on the poor blogger’s head.

The next thing the hapless blogger knew, his popular blog was deleted by Blogger.com. And just like that, all of his content, photos and advertisements were gone faster than you could say “Glitter flopped hard”.

Of course, as often happens when Blogger.com mistakenly – or deliberately – deletes a blog, some a-hole who was lying in wait for the name to become available – claimed the URL and is now pretending to be the blog owner and redirecting his traffic to another website.

Bloggers beware that if you host your popular blog for free on Blogger.com, your blog can be deleted without warning or, in this case, with warning.

Now all that’s left for the poor blog owner to do is appeal to Blogger.com to get his URL back – which isn’t likely to happen. In the meantime, I’m loving Mariah’s new track and I just might post a link to it since the weather forecast is calling for clear skies and zero percent chance of rain. :)

It would be nice if you actually linked to the blog in question so we could check it out. I’m not calling you a liar but how can we find out if any of this even ever happened? I guess you have something against outgoing links.

    Mia says:

If it’s the same snippet that has been making it’s way around the net for over a week, I definitely don’t see what the big deal was.

  15. 15

I agree Mia…I have gone to plenty of other sites that have the same thing posted yet they’re still up and running. However, Kevipod was one of the more well known music blog sites

Well, in my opinion, us Bloggers (independent journalists) need to unite at this point and boycott. More than likely, he got the link from someone else and was just doing what Bloggers do and paid a price for it (unfortunate). So much for being a fan of Mariah Carey.

Bloggers need to protect themselves too, especially from over zealous artist who don’t appreciate what fans can do for their career(s). It was probably someone from her camp who leaked it and blamed it on the Blogger (he got it from someone who knew someone in MC’s camp I bet). It takes a lot to build a blog page and to have it ripped from under you is just crazy. Bloggers can contribute a lot to an artist, Bloggers are fans that dedicate their time and energy to their fans. Although you are writing about an artist, it is your intellectual property in terms of creating the content of the blog page. How you develop your content is a nother story. Bloggers have to be aware of journalism rules and always give credit where credit is due, use APA, MLA, etc. formating when in doubt. If you post music, make sure you bought it and keep receipts of it. Only post snippets (10 sec) of “things”, especially if it is of someone elses property and get permission to post other people’s “things”. Some artist and entertainer don’t want you posting their “things” unless they either get paid or credit or have a piece of the pie.

I myself, after reading this post have decided to do some research in investing in my own server to build my own website. I’ll be danged if my blog get shut down, I put to much energy into my blog page, but it has nothing to do with music entertainment (thank God).

All it takes is one blogger to take a stand with these artist…Bloggers Unite!

    Peace,
    C

It’s a snippet it doesn’t hurt it helps..the whole album wasn’t online and it’s a way to let the “bigwigs” know if we are feeling the song or not..they are making a mountain out of a molehill

    Mia says:

Damn, they just took down Ali’s Blog too. This **** is ridiculous. Mariah’s single is not that hot. It’s nothing to be shutting down blogs over it.

  23. 23

I just listened to the song and I’m very unimpressed.

    2Unruly says:

I just heard the song and it just sounds okay. Typical Mariah. I guess expected more from Mariah. Perhaps I will like the next leak.

    THE SONG IS NOT HOT!
To be going through the trouble of deleting a website because of a wack ass song is crazy. Regular folk just dont get their hands on new Mariah, Janet or Beyonce material, it comes from inside the camp. Now the song is on every blog right now, so why cant his blog be reinstated.

i love the song..it’s catchy…p.e.r.e.z. has the whole track

I love MC but damn the single is nothing special, definitely not worth all the drama. I guess if I listen to it a bit more it’ll grow on me lol. I hope the other tracks are better.

[...] Sandra Rose and a few other sites reported that Blogger.com deleted a few popular blogs after they posted Mariah Carey’s new song without authorization.  Ummmm, last I checked, most of the music on the internet is posted without authorization.  I’m not saying I support illegal downloading.  I’m just saying that it takes a lot to regulate it and the industry has yet to figure out the most effective way to handle it.  So here’s the question:  WHAT MAKES MIMI SO SPECIAL??  The powers that be over at Def Jam (LA Reid and  them) are acting like Mariah IS the industry.  It’s not that serious.   And by the way, the song doesn’t even sound like anything.  Mariah needs to grow up and make grown up music.
