Judges are having a field day throwing black men in jail for domestic issues. And we wonder why black men make up the majority of the nation’s prison populations. A Genesee County judge sentenced legendary rapper MC Breed to five months in jail for failure to pay over $200,000 in child support to three different women. (Source)
Way to go judge! Your action guarantees that the three women and their kids will get their money now *sarcasm*. Hopefully Breed won’t suffer the same fate as R&B singer Sean Levert who died after being locked up for the same offense.
By the way, about a month ago, a loyal reader sent me pics of MC Breed’s alleged children. Cute kids, but I wondered why she sent the pics to me and I declined to post them on my site. At the time I had no knowledge of Breed’s ongoing problems with family court.

umm a word of advice for black men crying about doing time stop doing the damn crime pay your child support i guess it AINT no future in his fronting!!! get a job!! no sympathy from me my ex pays his 900.00 dollars a month on time every month and before yall start tripping he makes damn near 10X that and i know all the mothers out here can agree it is a supplement for the child i don’t see how folks try to live off of it i works EVERYDAY and i got to pay in money, time, blood, sweat, tears so whatever i guess he will be more careful “breeding” LOL
Its funny how the judge can think that serving time would allow him to make more money to pay off his child support..lol its like come on u give this man a criminal record..whatever legit jobs he could get to even start paying the support off would be out the window because he has a record now thanks to this good old judge…not helping the situation at all..and let me clear that up he could find some kind of work but nothing to amount in paying off that debt..
All he had to do was pay his child support. I have no sympathy for a man stupid enough to impregnate 3 different women. I am a mother of 2 and have yet to file child support for my children, but these men out here are soooo irresponsible with their seed and they deserve what they get. Let him work for 2 dollars an hour in jail to pay off his support.

The purpose of imposing jail sentences to men who refuse to take care of their responsibilities by paying child support is to be a deterrent. Many men are afraid of going to jail and thereby pay their child support as they should. I have a sister whose no good babys’ father refused to help financially until she had him put on paper and the judge told him if he didn’t pay, he would do time. Its sad…but i feel no sympathy for a man who won’t take care of his child(ren).
maybe this will resonate w/ men across the board…stop having kids you can’t take care of! if women can bust their behinds and provide for their child(ren), so can a man…i’m not sure if jail is the right “answer”, but unfornuately it sends the right “message” to these deadbeat a$$ men…this is the type of stuff they need to talk about in sex ed classes…
Ummm…here is my wild and crazy idea - pay your damn child support!
I mean, yeah the system is stacked against brothers sometimes, but dang, come on - don’t give them a reason! Handle up, man up, whatever - you have responsibilites - take care of them and you won’t have to worry about going to jail. Especially for doing something (taking care of your children) that you need to do, and should want to do, anyway.
And he wasn’t payin the money anyway, so the judge locking him up is not a further barrier to his children getting the money - I’m sure he was warned before he was sentenced.
Jail would not even be an option if the courst were’nt having such a hard time collecting the monies owed I think the courts thought by implementing jail time these men would be more likely to pay their dues.I guess not.Sandra seems to be taking sympathy on these men.Ain’t no telling how long they’ve been trying to collect this money.It’s not like he owed 200.00 and they locked him up.People really should’nt have kids if they can’t afford them and this goes for the women too.There are some deadbeat moms in the world as well.
With the amount he owes it’s past time for trying to get the money from him and time for punishment. I think all the stops shoule be pulled out to get the money before sending a man to jail, but if a man is determined to leave his children high and dry then get his butt. He owes 3 times as much as Sean did.

It is criminal for people to have children that they refuse to help raise, financially, physically, emotionally and spiritually, so jail is a reasonable punishment for those who refuse to do the right thing.
It’s a destructive cycle.
Men don’t know how to be true “men” these days and take care of responsability. Sometimes it’s not their fault, it’s the lack of a good example they recieved as a child and history repeats itself. YOU DON’T GET CREDIT FOR SHYT YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO DO. It’s more than the money and more than the p3ni5. So a child needs their dad and mom working hard to provide but daddy slacks off and goes to jail showing a terrible example of how an adult should conduct themself. BUT if the dad would have paid his child support and worked 500 jobs if need be then you get a great example of a hard working positive male figure. I’m not saying go beat old ladies over the head and take purses to make your payments but get on your grind.
Not all mothers want to buy Gucci/get in the club VIP with the money. Can they get SOME help just a little bit????!!! For those who are faulty they don’t even deserve to keep their kids, they might be better off with the dad.

The biggest offense is not taking care of your kids. It is sick to lay parenting soley on the mother. I have absolutely no sympathy for a man or even woman that can’t stand up and be a true woman or man when it comes to their kids. I would say that jail is the worst thing for a man that hasn’t paid child support, but what’s worse is having a child grow up thinking they aren’t loved or supported for. Like many ladies said on this board, if women can hold it down, so can the men, there are NO EXCUSES. NONE!
LADIES MAKE A MAN PUT ON A CONDOM EVERY SINGLE TIME. If you know that this is a man that you cannot see yourself with next week or even next year don’t lay down with him. Protect yourself. You have the decision of who is going to be your childs father. That is your choice. Look at how that man lives. If he doesn’t change his draws everyday…leave him alone. If he doesn’t have all 3 (job, home, car) leave his ass alone. B/c 2 out of 3 don’t cut it. I don’t care how much you try and add it up. If he’s a hater, leave his ass alone!
Another thng is this…just b/c you can become pregnant or get someone pregnant doesn’t mean you’re fit to be a PARENT. That means your equipment is working.
How about we plan pregnancy and complete our education or stay married for a few years before bringing kids into the world (white ppl, 36 and having their first kid). Sometimes we set them up/their future for failure.
THAT IS SAD… but I was watching Nancy Grace last night and NBA Ex-PLAYER Jason Caffey owes support for 10 kids by 8 different women!!!! Did you watch Nancy Grace Sandra… i think if you go to CNN and then click on Nancy grace there is a video showing parts of the show. THESE MEN NEED TO BE STOPPED!!!!!
ladies, ladies, ladies, we have to do better as woman. stop letting these men have their play day with you…without using protection anyway. i don’t know what it is to be one of these women but i feel for you. however, i’m so glad my daughter’s father is the sh*t. we have a great relationship…he takes good care of her..no worries about $$ being handed over. + he do hella more than child support…he still looks out for us both thank you..thank you …thank you!!!

This dude had many options:
Stop impregnating multiple women
Pay your child support to your mutiple baby mamas before it gets out of hand ($200k!)
Sign away your rights
While this guy is a dog, no doubt, some of the blame lays with the mothers. The primary care givers have to be prepared to handle things on their own. You can’t always count on the other parent to help out. If you can’t afford to take care of a kid on your own, don’t have one.
I agree w/ u sandra….i guess he’s just gonna come w/ that money now that he’s behind bars (sarcasm). Women too need to take responsibility. There’s gonna be a bunch of women quick to come on, and tell ya what a dead beat, low down dude he is, and that may be true but ya know……ya slept w/ him…lol You too are responsible. He’s gonna do his time in jail, and then what. He’s gonna come w/ that money while working behind bars….come on. I don’t have sympathy for either party in the situation ‘cept for the children. Both parties need to be make better decisions, if he’s not taking care of his other kids, he’s not gonna take care of yours. Somebody should have told him that before he started having babies with 3 different women. At what point are the men responsible for what they created. Women have always been the primary care givers at what point does the father step up and handle his end of the deal. Yes you should be able to depend on the other parent. They’re all adults dealing with children.
IMO this is the biggest problem with our men. Instead of teaching our black sons responsibility we stand up for them as their mothers and make excuses for their behavior.
If you lay up with three different women and have babies then damn it you need to take care of them financially, emotionally, physically, spiritually.

And if we waited to share or ourselves then this problem would not be so prevelant in our community..
We are not compaitiable with everyone and the time should be taken to make sure. Some men/woman should not be parents anyway they need to fill out a parenting application.

Quit being a dead beat and pay your child support it takes 2 not 1. Men need to realize that if they do not want to be responsible for anyone but themselves they need to quit

ITA, but you can’t have the mindset of depending on another person. You have to be able to take care of your kids on your own. You have to be prepared for it. Dead beat fathers are not the only worry. What if your man or ex-man passes away? What if he doesn’t have a will or he does, but you and your child aren’t included. There are so many things to consider before you go out having kids. I would not be surprised one bit if these 3 women were pulling out all the stops thinking they got knocked up by rapper so they’re gonna get their payday.
I’m sure the Mother was getting help from the State, and when the State couldn’t get the Father to pay in his part they went after him. He was messing with State money and they ain’t having none of that.

If that child has a place to live and food to eat courtesy of the mother, then she is paying her portion of the “child support”.
Mia makes a good point in her post…..some of these women know who they are dealing with when they f*** with these guys, then take them to CS when the guys can’t make that money appear.
I didn’t send my son’s Dad up for this very reason…I knew what I was dealing with, and I feel it is primarily my responsibility to take care of him, eventhough his father is part of his life…I don’t depend on no man to take care of my son(just the one who signs my paycheck)…however, Dad knows that since I don’t call on him for financial purposes very often, he better come through if my son needs him….it actually works out very well…

Sandra states she woould “order both parents to pay child support” … Speaking from the Custodial Parents point of .. since that the only point of view I CAN speak from .. In the state of NJ BOTH Parents income has to be proven in order for a order of support to go forth .. Since the custodial parent has ALL physical responsibilty .. the non- custodial parent has to suppliment the income… TRUST me when I tell you .. The Parent who has the child(ren) is paying for a home large enough for all .. and paying food .. and paying utlities… and paying for car/insurance.and paying for health insurance.. and paying for school activities … we pay ..and we pay and we pay But as a Mom No price is too much …
This could be avoided if he paid. It is that simple. Any non-custodial parent should gladly pay for their children. I understand that some do not like the amount that they pay but too often the same ones whining aren’t paying a dime. Hell pay something. Show some effort
And I still don’t get the logic of a custodial parent (male or female) paying child support. What do you think the child is living off of? You can’t put a dollar amount on being there, feeding, caring, taking care of health, helping with homework

That doesn’t always work. You don’t call on him “very often” but when you do, its still a problem.
Black women protect yourself, your children and your/their heart, mind and soul.
I hear you Sandra but he needs to be in jail; just for a little while to reflect. Hopefully, he will come out and get his life together. We have all been there; not in jail but at a place in our lives where we are humbled; broken down. Brother man has no where to go but up.
He was put in jail for failure to pay child support, which is only one of many ways that they punish the non-custodial parent who fails to comply with a court order-I’m certain his non-compliance and along with other warnings such as suspending his license or warnings he received and obviously ignorned wasn’t enough to motivate him to pay
So after his jail term is served, I’m certain he’ll be a bit more motivated to pay-that is if he doesn’t want to lose his freedom.
The shame in this is that jail is usually the very last resort for a judge in these matters, he could always seek to modify the court order if his financial situations has changed, but like MOST black men they typically ignore or try to avoid the situation, which only makes matters worst.
It’s nobody’s fault but his own! The actual shame in all of this is this “YOU HAVE TO FORCE BLACK MEN TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR CHILDREN OR ELSE THEY WON’T-when I made arrangements with my daughter’s father to pay child support to me bypassing the court system-he paid when and if he felt like it and of course there was always a valid excuse, but keep in mind I work full-time and I’m a college graduate and I don’t receive any aid of any kind-so if he doesn’t pay the support-I still have to pay for daycare so I can go to work and continue to support our child-and daycare aint cheap-can you say $175 a week! On top of paying rent, car insurance, groceries, etc. We’re talking the basics trust me-
So, he left me no other choice than to take him to court for court ordered payments-it wasn’t like he wasn’t working in fact, he had been at his job for 10 yrs-but when it didn’t seem convenient he chose not to pay-and that put a financial burden on me-so I did what it do and now I receive payments faithfully every two-weeks when he gets paid! As far as him being there he does that when and if he feels like it too, like most of them, nothing new-same **** different day-I can’t do anything about that, but I damn sure did something about him doing his part financially.
And by the way, how do you calculate how much it cost to raise a child until their an adult?
And if you and the man were in love, maybe even married when the child was conceived-and the relationship didn’t work long after the baby was born-how can you predict that the father won’t be responsible when he was while you two were together/married?
And why is birth control only a woman’s issue or responsibility?
And should married couples also determine if they are financially capable of raising a child alone if the relationship doesn’t work?

You could only make both parents pay child support if a third party was caring for the child. If the child is living with their mother than she’s doing her half. Now it’s time for the father to do his.
I still think (when talking about parents) that both parents should be depended upon to take care of their children. We’re not talking about depending on a man for the **** of it. We’re talking about depending on parents to take care of what is theirs. All these excuses and letting the men off because “I can do it on my own and don’t need no man to help me” is the problem with “us” and “ours”. This is why we have a 9 year old boy on utube imitating Beyonce. The breakdown in the black family. I’m not really talking about the breakdown between a man and women but a man and his children. We can keep our men children alive and we can teach them the best way we can but without a male role model “our” children are growing up imitating music videos, COPS, the dealers on the corners and the gangs in the streets. Their imitating what they “think” is real.

But Sandra, if he has been ordered to pay child support then the mother or whoever he has been ordered to pay must be the custodial parent. Meaning, she is providing food, shelter, field trip money, homework help, bandaids on scraped knees, gas getting baby to and fro to school and whatever else the kid has going on. The least his sorry ass could do is send a damn check each month. Maybe when he is released from jail he will stand up and do the right thing. When a court of law orders you to do something, you do it. Point blank. No matter how menial or unnecessary you may think it to be. Once again, I have no sympathy.

Only if it was that easy, but that’s not the case because in most situations the woman ends up being the full time care giver..There are some great dads who continue to stay in their childs life and do their part but not very many…I personally feel that being their physically, & emotionally does a hell of a lot more for a kid than putting a check in the mail…Child support isn’t saying that the man is carrying the full financial responsibility it’s just saying do your part.
Also…….I am not a single mother but I was raised by one and I have a few close friends that are wonderful single mothers. In this situation, I’m guessing here but his relationships with the mothers (count them 1, 2 & 3) must be non-existent; like no communicating. I say this to point out that single moms that I know have always tried to work with the father (when they are no longer in a relationship). It’s only when the father doesn’t step up, doesn’t return phone calls and literally can’t be found is when they take it to the courts. Single mothers that I know will always try to keep it out the courts; the courts are the last straw for them.
This is so sad. I sympathize for these fathers that are locked up for such outlandish amounts of payments. Sean Levert for 80 thousand? WTF? As if he was pulling in that type of money. Come on.

Once the father stops making a large amount of money can’t they go back to court and show the judge what their current sitatuation is for lower payments?
Did anyone happen to read the news story about the little 14 yr old girl that gave birth to her baby in the school bathroom and then tried to flush it, resulting in killing the baby
At the hearing, Breed’s lawyer told the judge that his client’s career has been on a downslide and that makes it difficult for him to pay the child support. “I’ve done my best to give back what I can,” Breed told the judge. “You’ve given back $50 in three years,” the judge responded “That’s the best you can do?”
That might answer why the jusde threw his ass in jail

MC Breed’s failure to pay guaranteed those three women weren’t going to get child support. Can’t blame the judge because dude didn’t pay up. Did he consider getting a real job? Maybe two? Judges will recognize when a man is making an effort.
