Tina Turner: “Beyonce Will Never Be Me!”
Legendary singer Tina Turner gave Beyoncé a wicked left hook and put her down for the count during a British interview yesterday. Tina told reporters that while Beyoncé is “elegant” she will never match her for raw talent and Bey will never be “rock n’ roll”.
Tina said:
“She was one of the ones that were sitting in front of her little television, her little self looking at the big screen when I was Tina in the Ike and Tina Turner days and she took from all the stars at that time.“Diana Ross influenced her, I influenced her. What I like about her is that she knows what she is doing, she really did her homework and decided to stay elegant.
“She’s not rock ‘n’ roll - she’s totally elegant. Unless you’re rock ‘n’ roll from the heart you can’t mimic that. The stance, the movements, it has to come from the inside.”

I didn’t take that as a dis. She is clearly saying that Bey isn’t Rock & Roll..We all know that.
She never said Beyonce could never be here… She stated the obvious, that Beyonce is not rock n roll. Anyway who would want to be Tina Turner? I’d rather be remembered as being “elegant” (as Turner put it) over having the history of being a dope fiend’s punchin bag any day

She’s right it takes more than shaking your ass to be rock n roll..Beyonce is pop..she will stay pop..that’s a genre that fits..rock n roll is not her forte..it’s nice that she may want to delve into it..but it’s forced when she does it..if it aint broke don’t fix it
While I greatly respect Ms. Turner, her statement was wack. Why can’t people just take it as a honor that someone looks up to them. I understand what she was trying to say, but it came off as a back hand compliment. Beyonce was definitely influenced by Tina and Diana. But she also has her own style and sound. You can’t take that from her.
Beyonce is an R&B who makes POPULAR music.
Well, to me Tina could have saved that comment. Heck, Beyonce can’t be being herself (and I am not a fan but right is right and wrong is wrong). Beyonce whatever your nitch is do it. You can beat you being you. Tina, sit down.

Sounds like another hot azzed old (that chick Bey is playing in that new movie) singer saying Beyonce is a lady and they weren’t. Sounds like a compliment to me.
Bey will never be Beyonce, but will have her own legacy, then she can say once she’s old, these new singers will never be me.

The fact that someone refers to Etta james as some ‘old chick’ and speaks highly of Beyonce is heartbreaking and depressing.

I totally disagree. Beyonce is “elegant” and carries herself very well “for her age”…She has this aura within that speaks for itself. Isn’t she from Houston?

Etta James music is classic Soul music right along with Tina Turner, that whats wrong with this generation and Im talking about anyboy directly Im just saying this generation doesnt appreciate the value of good music, the other day I was listening to some Jodeci and one of there songs just made me cry I believe it was “Love you for Life” and I got to thinking to myself where have the real artist(s) gone too it seems as if they left planet earth!

I have much respect for Tina and Beyonce. (I’ve always wanted Tina’s legs and energy) Tina is a legend, period. Beyonce has a ways to go but she’s definitely working on becoming one. Both are beautiful women so please stop hating and give ‘em both some respect. Peace.

@candycane i think the folks were upset b/c tina and etta are neck and neck in the old department true indeed. etta is more bluesy. tina is more rock. etta was a junkie. tina was an abused woman. and beyonce has not experienced life enough yet to be considered a legend or to be even considered much of anything when you put those two and what they have overcome up to what she has accomplished.

I think beyonce is a VERY classy woman. When she’s onstage she’s a different person. An Entertainer. I would like to think she is a good role model for the youth. Hard working, never caught up strung out on drugs, sticking with one man.
As far as being concerned about the “important things..” I love celeb gossip and these are my outlets while i’m at work. I think we ALL could find something a little more ” productive” to do than be in here posting.. so, pot meet the kettle to anyone who is in here and has a smart remark. It’s only Entertainment! haha.
Jennifer lopez has copied people. No one is original today. You can name any artist and I guarantee you they have all copied somebody style or whatever at some point. But because this is Beyonce people have to come up with excuses. People just hate to give this girl her props. Tina Turner has said on many occassions that she loves and admires Beyonce so Sandra is lying and twisting stuff as usual. Beyonce has been complimented by Stevie Wonder, Prince, Chaka Kahn, Tina Turner, Diana Ross,etc and she has performed with all of them too.She is very beautiful talented and classy so people need to give her her props. She been doing it big for over 11 years now and she gonna keep on going.

I think what Tina as well as Ella was saying about Beyonce is that she doesn’t have raw passion when it comes to her music. Yeah, she may act a little wild on stage and scream and holla sometimes, but everything about her is carefully choreographed. You dont ever hear pain or heartbreak through her songs. It’s as if she afraid to let people know she’s an actual human being.

I really don’t get the comparison. You can’t compare someone who’s just 26, to someone who is in their 60s. Can we really see 40 years into the future to predict Beyonce won’t be a legend in her own right and will still be performing on stage?
Every great show is carefully choreographed. Every great entertainer works hard to put on a great show. In that respect, Beyonce deserves her props. She also deserves props for exposing Tina Turner to her fans that never seen Ms. Turner perform.
