Breaking News: Michelle Obama To Stay Home and Raise Daughters

Last week Access Hollywood ran a 4-part series on presidential candidate Brack Obama’s home life with his wife Michelle and two daughters. The show succeeded in portraying Obama as a loving husband and dad, but unfortunately he also came across as a milquetoast whose wife and daughters ran roughshod all over him. Changes had to made.

Now comes word that Michelle Obama has decided to sharply curtail her duties on the campaign trail to stay at home with her daughters. According to Drudgereport.com, Mrs. Obama will not accompany her husband on his tour of Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, and Europe.

“Nor will she have a policy role in the Obama administration; she will be raising their daughters,” states Drudge in a posting on his website.

This is a developing story. NY Times reporter Patrick Nealy will have more on this story in the coming days.

Sandra, are you saying that a stay at home wife is not as important as one who has a paying job? Michelle was the mentor to Barak after they graduated and went on to a higher level of schooling. Nothing wrong with a parent to say I will stay at home and take care of the children. Even though she made more money than he did before the campaign, she is still the naturer to her husband and their children at the end of the day. What happened to the “don’t hate, congradulate?

Michelle Obama’s position has always been what it is now. Spend some time doing speeches,but to go back home on most nights to Chicago with the girls. She has always said that she will have no part in making policies etc. Obama 2008!

That’s great. More children need their mother’s in their lives, famous or not. I was a stay at home mom for five years with my first, had to go back to work a year and a half after the second was born and totally see the difference in how the one that was raised at home acts compared to the one raised in daycare…Lawd makes me want to choke him sometimes! LOL…Just playing. But, I’m sure she won’t be able to just totally sit back and do nothing, but I think her in the role of the SAHM while her husband is running the country will give hope to those who think it’s not a good life (“just” raising the kids)…it’s more of a job than any out of the home worker can do believe me!

She can still stay home and be a strong black woman out making history. We need good mother models as well. Seeing her kids come first is a position that many in our community need to see. Once the election is won (in his favor) then she can make world history cause I think she wears the pants in that family anyway.

There is absolutely nothing wrong w/ Michelle choosing to not involve herself in policy making or other. She has the role of being a confidant @ all times, she is his wife and being a dedicated mother is a full time job in itself. I don’t think her choosing to stay home rather than go on those tours is exactly a bad idea. I am sure she will be campaigning for him in the States. There are alot of Caucasian female women who are still unsure about Obama … I am sure there are platforms being arranged for Michelle to make moves accordingly while he visits Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, and Europe.

This story is making it sounds like Michelle is a housewife. She is a successful attorney and not being on the road with Barack not only gives her more time with the kids it also allow her to get he billable hours back up. It’s not like she will be sitting home raising the kids.

Michellei’s a very sucessful and intelligent black woman and I think noone other than her can do a better job of raising two girls to be the same. No she may not be at home 24/7 like most stay at home moms because she has to be the mother to her children, a wife, friend and more to her husband and if you combine all of that it’s a 24/7 job. But at least a nanny/the help/security guards won’t be looked at as stepmom.

That’s right Michelle play that role until Barack get’s into the white house…I’m sure this isn’t a permanat fix she’s probably doing this so people will shut the hell up about her being to much of a take charge kind of woman..Michelle know’s her role she helped Barack get to where he is, she doesn’t need a sophisticated title to define her place at her man’s side.

DO your thing Michelle if you need to bow down and bake cookies to shake the simple minded haters off because white Amerikka can’t handle a strong, intelligent sista, than do what you got to do.

Michelle’s hair always looks so healthy and it has so much body to it. It reminds me of how Ce Ce Winans hair always looks. Nice and healthy.

I absolutely love the family structure that the Obama’s are offering everybody.

And? So what. There will be PLENTY of time for that during the next 8 years. I mean, if she wasn’t staying at home then she would be labeled as a unfit mother. Now she’s staying home and we still have problems. The (strong) black (and in some cases single) woman can’t win for losing. But WE are the backbone of the world in its entirety. Believe that!

being, or aspiring to be a stay at home mom when you are black is very controversial for a lot of reasons..black women have the right to be sahms too, our children and homes have the right to that level of attention as well, and this is an unusual situation

Nothing wrong with being a sahm. Two imcomes are better than one but if you can make it on one I say go for it. There is too much stigma for a black woman to stay home and raise the children. Ppl assume you are lazy and the man is out busting his butt to take care of the bills. If ppl looked at it alittle differently and saw that the woman is sacrificing her mental need for adult stimulation (by not going to a 9-5)to raise her own kids. A majority of sahm home school. To dedicate so much of yourself for your kids is a selfless thing to do. I love my kids. Going to work is a vacation away from them to me. I miss my kids when I am at work so when I come home I get to re appreciate them 5 days a week. LOL

Ths is not breaking news…..she never travels with him consistently…she quit her job to stay home with her girls when he decided to run for President.
