The LA Times has finally dumped Chuck Phillips, the controversial Pulitzer-prize winning journalist who fabricated a story accusing Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs of having had something to do with Tupac Shakur’s death.

The LA Times was later forced to retract the article after The Smoking Gun exposed Phillips’ lies and half-truths. Phillips also wrote an earlier article for the LA Times alleging the Notorious B.I.G. was responsible for Tupac’s death.

In an earlier post I wondered how Phillips was able to get away with such glaring falsehoods in his reporting. It’s obvious Phillips did half-assed research and made up the other half.

Phillips can be compared, at least in part, to former Washington Post reporter Janet Cooke, who returned her Pulitzer prize after it was determined she fabricated the story that earned her the top honor in journalism.

Sean Combs and rap music mogul Jimmy `Henchman’ Rosemond, who was also accused in the LA Times piece on Tupac, threatened to sue the paper for damages.
