Jay Z On Pace To Sell 300K (Can you say flop?)

According to HitsDailyDouble.com, rapper Jay Z’s 11th studio album, The Blueprint 3, is on pace to sell 300K in the first week.

BP3 leaked online last week forcing Atlantic Records to scrap plans to release the disc on the 8th anniversary of The Blueprint, which dropped on September 11, 2001.

Despite also being leaked early, and being overshadowed by the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the original Blueprint still managed to sell 426,000 copies that week.

BP3 will fall far short of that mark, and may not even go gold this year. By comparison, Jigga’s “comeback” CD, Kingdom Come (2006), sold over 680,000 units its opening week.

Critics are already blaming BP3‘s tepid sales on the album’s weak singles, particularly “Run This Town” featuring Knaye West and Rihanna.

With the deal he has from Live Nation, Im sure he doesnt have to sweat numbers like the average artist anyway. He got his paper regardless. Just off BitTorrent alone, in the last few days Jay’s album has leaked over 400,000 copies. I could be wrong but IMO unless record labels are buying copies of their artists, I think the days of rappers being able to sell a milli in the 1st week are gone!!

Some artists are slept on, have their music illegally downloaded, have little to no promotion etc… Some are overrated and sell a helluva lot and the album is shytty, so they just need to do away with album sales = how great an artist is!!!! Imma have to say numbers *sometimes* DO lie!!! =)

O.K Krysi – we agree on comment 88 because I loved the track of Autotunes but didn’t care for the song and like I’ve said before, besides American Gangster, he doesn’t do it for me anymore. I like broke hustling with Dame and Bigg Jay and not the St Tropez, Hubby, Gwen and Chris Martin hanging Jay.

elove you cant in no way compare rap to rnb. rap is competitive by nature from the roots there was battling to see who was the best from the start. anybody who does music at a high level thinks they the best point blank. certain people have a track record and accolades to back up what they say and jay is one of them. u referencing DOA as hating but its more a call to action. its not that doing autotune is bad its everybody and they mama doing autotune is bad. thats like anything when its mainstream its time to move on in hiphop. when white folks started using bling bling in commercials for hamburgers and shit it was time to move on. same with auto tune its being used in burger commercials its time to move on. if you have no talent and u use autotune as your crutch you watering down the culture. tpain has talent he will be straight with or without autotune because dude is just that talented same with wayne same with kanye its just when something is overused in hiphop its usually killed and this is no different. like next month the term swag should be on its way out so im hoping to hear a DOS.

Hermosa I don’t think its fair to say if somebody doesnt like Jay they arent a hip hop head or something to that effect lol The songs that I heard last week that were leaked were not hawt to me and I will listen to the cd but I wont be buying it but I dont buy rap like that anyway. I am not pressed to hear new music from Jay per say it is what it is. You can JAM to your hearts content though!

It has moved on to AUTOTUNE, and when we get tired of buying the shyt ….hip hop will move on….but we the people are the decision makers….WE decide whats hot and whats NOT ….not ah fukking jay z! That is unless he wants to buy his own records. Dropping shyt like DOA only makes people like him less….the first thing came to my mind is “who the fukk he think he is??” Im sure I was not alone. Every rapper who has used autotune knows what it was…even Kanye, either you man up and let that niccah know or ya don’t, or ya just keep getting money on his azz cuz you know it ain no competition anymore. Coming out the gate with 300k sold the first week is taking away from what he accomplished…Now any new or old artist doing their thing in the game will have the opportunity to sell more than that and clown hiz azz for not having that big of a fan base anymore…He’s only hurting himself forcing us to listen to that shyt. AFTER all that fukking promotion all those commercials and shyt dude still only sold 300k…..Wayne or Kanye can probably sell that much on their dycks??!! It iz what it iz, and one day (hopefully before he killz his entire career for CRABNESS) he will see it for himself. He could have remained the best when he retired a long time ago….now he may not go out that way.
