Chanel and Louis Vuitton “Replicas” Are All the Rage
For some time now I noticed that most of the chicks in the nightclub photos in Atlanta are wearing cheap, knock offs of brand name bags like the imitation Louis Vuitton that Debra Glenn of Glenn Twins is wearing in this picture.
I know that these bags are fakes and I’m not even a fashion connoisseur (expert). Also, the chicks that you normally see holding the bags in these club pics look like they could afford the real thing if they cut back on hair and nail salon visits in a month.
So why do these ladies wear these bags when they are so obviously fake?
I put the question to a fashionista friend of mine who wouldn’t be caught dead with a knock off. She told me that “everyone does it because it’s the in thing now”. She said the bags are not referred to as “knock offs” they are called “replicas”.
And, in some case, the replicas of a Chanel or Louis Vuitton bag carries the same status as the real thing, but at half the price. As you know, status is everything.
She said there is a robust replica market for these bags such as this site that caters to women looking for replica handbags and shoes on a tight budget.
For instance, the replica of a Louis Vuitton monogram Speedy 25 that Debra is holding can be yours for $215 as compared to the real thing which retails for $665. The difference between the two, of course, is the authentic Speedy is higher quality and doesn’t sag or lose its shape.
Leave it to us to make a status symbol out of a knock off of a high end brand.

WELL, I’m glad that I grown out of my need for expensive bags in my 20s. I go by a motto I heard on Steve Harvey (even before I heard it though). If you can’t walk around with how much money that purse hit you for in your wallet at all times then you can’t afford it. I’d do a replica too, hell save your money.

The girl with the knock off purse looks a little like Lil Kim and the chick in the middle looks like a nut job…..any way I could care less about a chick having a fake purse unless she is acting like she is better than everyone then I would put her on blast other than that I don’t care…….But I personally don’t buy knock offs and don’t spend a lot on a purse.
LLani I agree. Now that I have kids I can’t see myself spending my hard earned money on expensive bags and shoes. Their college education is much more important. Besides my husband is not TI I cannot have whatever I like. Not in this recession anyways. lol

I own three real louis vuitton bags, but now that I’ve brought them I really see no point in them because no one in my area knows the difference between the real and “replicas” except for my manicurist. And I’m $1500 broker.
But hey fake it until you make it. It really doesn’t matter as long as they are no obvious fakes (ie LS instead of LV).
There is a natural swag when you rock an authentic bag.
It seems these females that have the knock-offs spend so much time trying to conceal it….or just forget its a ‘replica’ and continue to party hoping no one takes a picture OR they show the right side of the bag and conceal the other side that gives away the clue.
Just go to canal street here in NYC and get buy it for $50. The bag is really leather but like Sandra said the quality sucks. When your on the train all the bags look alike until you get a good look at it. For one a real LV bag I was told will never have the LV logos inside of the bag. A crack head gay booster tried to sell me one and said it comes from Macy’s and i told him it was fake and you can’t get it from Macy’s especially when all the security in the LV section carry guns.
There is a bus that comes to Canal street from different states with white folks buying the luggage and bags by the bulks.

oh one of the tricks that girls do to the bags to make them look real is rub vaseline on your hands then message the handles to make it look like you had it for years. And if your gonna buy a real bag, hell fill it up! put items in them like brushes, makeup, pens, wallets or even pads or tamponds. I hate to see a bag looking flat and caved in sagging just to say i have a LV bag.

As an aspiring designer, its sad to see all the fakes taking away from the designers vision…Everyone is not supposed to have an LV, thats part of the reason they are expensive..
I’m in Jersey and I know of a spot that you can buy real Louis V’s, Coaches, Gucci….they just happened to be pre-owned. I have found some that are in really good condidtion and have paid less than $100 for them.

I don’t rock faux designer bags but I don’t knock those who do. My only request is to not go overboard with the faux accessories. Rocking the bag, shoes, belt, scarf, necklace, and earrings at the same time is not a good look.

I use to be heavy heavy into the Coach game…one day I looked up and they were everywhere..fakes, replicas, real ones it was pitiful, and I always got asked if my bag was real. After buying a purse that was more than my car payment and knowing I could have paid my car off 1 month early… I only buy purses from ALDO now..just as cute and less than $60.

As for purses – Coach! I usually get one every other year, and carry it for about a year. They’re investment pieces, minus the tacky and multi-colored logo print. Except the patchworkone that came out a few years ago – it was nice. I’ll stick with plain basic color and cut – I’m a Plain Jane!
This guy I dated thought he was doing something when he gave me 4 “replica” designer bags as a gift…I was laughing inside because he had no clue. They looked really close to the original, but my friend who worked for Coach schooled me that the biggest giveaway is the zipper (among other things).

Personally if I can’t rock the real thing, I’m good. Who pays any amount of hard earned money for a counterfeit item? It’s not that serious. I’d rather spend money on some high quality, less famous brands like Cole Haan that reflect my personal style more appropriately than be a label slave with logos all over my accessories.

If you look at some of the older movies even some black and white ones you will see a signature LV bag.
