According to the folks over at Upscale Hype, Solange Knowles is something of a shoe snob: In an interview with Refinery29.com, Solange sniffed, “The shoe is very important. I can’t even fuck with you if your shoe game is slacking.”

At least now you know that it takes a mean shoe game to even register a blip on Solange’s radar. Don’t you love it when a broad openly admits she’s superficial and shallow?

She states that her style is a blend of Diana Ross, The Fela Kuti Queens, Björk, ’70s-era Chaka Khan, Chloë Sevigny, ’90s Erykah Badu and her mom in the ’70s and ’80s. Yet, what I love the most about her is her respect and appreciation for the shoe game. Whether you know it or not, your choice in shoes speaks volumes about the type of person you are. They say not to judge a book by its cover, but when you’re dealing with shoes, you can throw that saying out the window. Shoes provide information on where you are in your life mentally, your fashion direction, most of the time – your financial situation, where your interest lie, and if you’re conservative, outgoing, daring or experimental. Not only does it piece outfits together, but in my opinion it completes them. How important are shoes to you? Do you agree or disagree with Solange’s view? See more pics HERE

“Don’t you love it when a broad openly admits she’s superficial and shallow?”

How is that “superficial and shallow”? I kinda feel her one that…if you walkin around wearing REEBOKS and FILAS or your shoes are dirty you gets no love here…guess that makes me superficial and shallow too

  • Cariblife

I love me a good pair of shoes too, even though I can’t afford most of the cute ones and can’t walk in heels to save my life.

    Good Morning everyone!

I’ve never been the type of chick to get caught up in labels, cars, etc. As long as your overall look is neat and presentable and you are confident in what you’re rocking, you’re good. I could care less who made the shoe or how much your attire costs. When you die you can’t take any of these self-proclaimed status symbols with you anyway. It simply doesn’t impress me. But that’s just me….

This is funny, because I was listening to a radio show the other morning and they were talking about this, so the radio jock said there was some poll that said most women have 19 pairs of shoes in their closet. I was like GTFOH! I own over 400 pairs of shoes. It sounds ridiculous, but I love SHOES so I can relate to Solange and her shoe game. The shoe for me is the most important accessory. It actually buy shoes and then buy the wardrobe to match. I buy shoes every weekend. (I do pay my tithes and give to charity)…but I just love shoes! Don’t get caught up in shoes. When you claim that you cant be seen with a person that got raggedy shoes, you could be passing by your blessings without realizing it.

If an Angel of the Most High God was sent to you, and the Angel was disguised as a regular person, but wearing raggedy shoes, then you would not know it and you would lose out on a favor from God.

The devil on the other-hand, will be disguised as a regular person with ‘ the bomb ‘ fashion game. From shoe to hair, and folks will fall right into his trap.

“Why thank you very much! It’s funny you ask because I initially was involved as the spokesperson, but the clothes just didn’t reflect my personal style and I decided to hand that over. That’s the great thing about my family. We work together so closely that if something’s not working out, we can be honest about it and there won’t be any grudges or issues. I wrote a couple of songs on my sister’s last album and if there’s a line she doesn’t like, she changes it and we keep on moving. I will say though, they did just do a bedding line that I am extremely in love with and I was like, ‘Can I model that… in my house?'”

I appreciate nice shoes (and will splurge from time to time for what I want) but shoes don’t make me who I am. I don’t need a $500 pair or 500 pairs of shoes for validation. At best I’d buy them simply because I think they are cute. But just because a person can’t afford a certain shoe or would rather spend their funds on things that appreciate with value doesn’t make them unworthy of my time. I just learn to appreciate them for things they appreciate that may not necessarily be as superficial as a pair of shoes.

I think the real winners are celebrities who sit in interviews and dont say nathan! I understand what she is saying. CEOs dont go find their wives in Payless.

Its just some things are better left unsaid. She also said she :blunt:

“ALL that I think she insecure and yadda yadda is garbage”

Exactly! She’s young and she has a different style so how does that equate to having low self esteem and not knowing who you are? I’m confused on how people seem to know eveything about a complete stranger

Sheeesh let Soloange ve great with her quirky self. She ain’t hurting nobody.

She is no more shallow then some of you who sit and dissect everything her, her sister, or any other celebrity wear. So save that kumbaya bs…

I can understand that. How old is your “OTB” child? Mine is 9 and the attitude is there already! I really have to bite my tongue sometimes, but I dont want her to grow up like Solange.

It seems to me that Tina did the whole *Creole accent* “my two girls are close in age so they must be alike…lets make them twins, Matty!!!” :cheer:

    @ OTB
i was a “Willow Smith” growing up and still am to a certain degree. the difference is that i don’t DEFINE a person by what they wear/don’t wear. i value people and relationships for what they are on the inside cuz most times the outside can be deceiving.

    @speak….
Nothing went over my head. I don’t think I made my comment in reference to one person.I made ageneral statement. Just an observance. Some of the comment change depending on the celebrity. If it was someone else most people would be cosigning and highfiving the broad. But bc its Solo…a knowles people automatically act holier than thou as if they not part of this “superficial” attitude.

U can have an opinion…..different than mine……..we can speak on it and agree to disagree. But I wasn’t coming at u specifically

  • OutsidetheBox

    Come on y’all KIR!

Does it really need to be said that she is speaking of herself and the “potentials” that step to her?

I dont think that is her litmus test for all people.

@Free I just cant agree. I dont really think in terms of extremes. Whats extreme to me, is just the beginning for someone else. I always keep in mind that I share the world. How boring would the world be if we all were average.

If my style is the same at 45, please shoot me.

  • Mamacita

How is what she said any different from wanting a man with a 6 pack, or a nice house, or a good job, or a nice car…everyone has certain things they look for in a mate. If you don’t agree then you don’t have to but why attack her for it? Its her life and she can date who she wants to…

  • http://chokolatemilk.blogspot.com Choco

  • buttercup24

@Mamacita I find it superficial. Just because a man doesn’t spend time worrying about what type of shoe he throws on doesn’t make him less than a man. I have to force my fiancee to buy shoes for himself and most of the time I have to buy them. He doesn’t worry about stuff like that, he worries about the bills being paid before time, ing accounts, and things that benefit the future. And that’s all that matters to me. If I had judged him by what was on his feet, I would’ve missed out on a lot.

  • http://chokolatemilk.blogspot.com Choco

(I am not trying to come for you or your hubby @Buttercup.)

But shoes are a basic need @Choco. If she has to force him to buy them… :/

Keep in mind that some women are taught to look at a number of things to gauge the “responsiblilty” factor. When I read that my instant though was “he is concerned with the future but not the present?”

What happens when I (meaning the sig. other) am the “present”?

That would be a warning or “no go” for some women, right? Anyway, just wanted to give a different view.

@ Choco – I get what you’re saying but her dad is her ‘manager’ and he complains of her foul mouth. He will be the last to fire her. I guess in her line of work, decorum isn’t expected as much as the average person. I will say this though, she speaks better than AND has a more broad vocab than her sister. That’s one chica you won’t see reading from a teleprompter at an awards show anytime soon.

Well this is one time she should take her fathers advice to me it promotoes ghetto single baby momma-she’s a mom she should speak in public with common sense…
    @OTB
Was she talking about men or ppl in general and shoes are a necessity but her funky attitude isn’t-and even if she was talking about men perhaps this is why she isn’t keeping one

  • Lady_L

    —————————————————————-

That is true and I never said that’s THE ONLY thing I look at but a person’s appearance says a lot to me personally. If you don;t agree then so be it but it is not superficial. And there are men who dress well, and do all the things that you mentioned such as paying bills, and taking care of their family. I want both and if that’s what i’m looking for I’ll find it. People are on this post talking about the way Solonge dresses and her shoes stating that she’s “insecure” Unstable” “crying for attention” but then in the next breath want to say the clothes and shoes don’t make a person. If they don’t make a person then why is she being defined by them. That’s my whole point.

That comment is shallow as f*ck. It’s a shoe. It doesn’t define a person at all. What if his shoe game is on point and he is an asshole and cheater?

And some people’s taste may be different. It’s almost like saying, if he doesn’t like the same music as I like, I can’t f*ck with him. GTFOH Solange. It’s more important things in dismissing a person than their shoe game.

Just like somebody else said. You can miss out on a blessing, a good person could be sent to enter your life and you’re dismissing them because you don’t like their shoes. LOL really.
