Gilbert Gottried, the unfunny comedian who supplied the voice of the iconic Aflac duck for the Aflac insurance company, is out of a job after tweeting insensitive "jokes" about the Japanese people.
Gottfried, who deleted his offensive tweets, was informed of his termination yesterday:
“Gilbert’s recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac. Aflac Japan – and by extension, Japan itself – is part of the Aflac family, and there is no place for anything but compassion and concern during these difficult times.”
Although, his tweets about the Japanese people were in poor taste (and won't be repeated on this blog), no mention is made of his racist jokes about black prisoners that are still up on his Twitter page. Even though it was evident for some time just how racist Gottfried was from his tweets, the company didn't move to fire him until he made fun of the devastation in quake-hit Japan.
