Businesswoman: Simone Smith Launches Jewelry Line

Jewelry designer Simone I. Smith, wife of rapper-turned-actor LL Cool J, launched her new jewelry line, Simone I. Smith, at Bloomingdale’s in Century City, CA yesterday. Normally I would have added “long suffering” to her name, but Simone wasn’t thinking about LL and his cheating ways. Some would say she has low self esteem, but Simone was busy stacking her chips and raising the couple’s three children until she could realize her dream of owning her own business. LL saw that she was a strong and independent woman, and he couldn’t do anything but respect her.

Actress Nicole Ari Parker, designer Simone I. Smith and singer Kelly Rowland attended Simone’s jewelry launch yesterday.

Celebs Out & About: Gabrielle Union, Savannah Brinson, Chris Brown

From StilettoJill:

Last night after the Heat knocked out the Celtics (16 straight unanswered points in the 4th quarter WOW) a few members of the Heat and of course friends, family and significant others, went out to celebrate. As usual, decked out in their “white hot” ensembles, Savannah Brinson, Adrienne Bosh and Gabrielle Union look like they had a great night!

Troubled singer Chris Brown was spotted strolling with a male friend in Hollywood yesterday. Although this photo is very suspect, this post is not about CB’s sexual orientation or his hate for women.

From UpscaleHype:

Chris Brown was spotted walking with a friend in Hollywood wearing a Marc by Marc Jacobs Summer Sleeveless Sweatshirt Hoodie ($178), which has a front zip closure and logo branding on the left chest. He was also rocking a pair of Vans Vault Authentic Decon LX Blue leather sneakers from the Spring/Summer 2011 Collection.

Celebs Out & About: Ciara, Kelly Rowland, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Hudson, Dania Ramirez

Sultry singer Ciara attended a Samsung event in Hollywood yesterday wearing a sexy sleeve dress that left nothing to the imagination. Prior to attending the event, Ciara was spotted shopping at Barney’s in Beverly Hills earlier in the day. All she needs is one hawt single and she’ll blow away the competition, ie Rihanna and Beyawnsay.

Rap star Nicki Minaj and singer/actress Jennifer Hudson (not pictured) attended the Samsung Infuse 4G For AT&T Launch Event held at Milk Studios in Hollywood yesterday. She’s not happy because this is one of those rare occasions when Nicki is dressed down per the request of her sponsor.

Sexy superstar Kelly Rowland also attended the Samsung event. Kelly Rowland’s hit single “Motivation” sits at #3 on the Billboard chart. But she’s not letting the newfound fame get to her head like Beyawnsay did. Kelly is already a superstar in Europe.

Chicago Bulls Upend the Atlanta Hawks to Win Series

Just hours after being named to the 2010-2011 All-NBA team, the league MVP Derrick Rose (pictured below) and his Chicago Bulls blew past Josh Smith and the hapless Atlanta Hawks to win game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinals 93-73 at Philips Arena last night.

The Bulls will host LeBron James and the Miami Heat in game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Sunday in Chicago.

In addition to Rose making the All-NBA team, LeBron James (Miami Heat), Kobe Bryant (LA Lakers), the Thunder’s Kevin Durant and the Magic’s Dwight Howard also made the squad.

Rose and the Bulls won back-to-back games after dropping game 4 to the Hawks last Friday. Many blamed that loss on Rose’s hard partying at several Atlanta nightclubs before and after game 4. It was a different story when Rose slipped back into Atlanta for game 6 though.

I’m told he never left his downtown Atlanta hotel room Wednesday and Thursday except to participate in morning shootarounds, eat and use the bathroom.

Though jubilant over their win, Rose and his teammates no doubt heard about the death of NBC5 Chicago sportscaster Daryl Hawks, who was found in his hotel room at the CNN Center yesterday morning. Hotel staff found Hawks’ body after his colleagues failed to reach him by phone all morning.

Hawks, 38, was in Atlanta to cover game 6. Police ruled out foul play and Hawks’ death is not under investigation. The Philips Arena is adjacent to the CNN Center megaplex in downtown Atlanta.

Congrats to Car Note Payment Contest Winner: Kandrea!

I have a winner for my Sandrarose.com Pays Your Car Note Contest! The lucky winner is loyal reader Kandrea C.! Kandrea’s May 2011 car payment will be paid in the amount of $434.71.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest! If Kandrea doesn’t claim her prize by submitting her PayPal info within 24 hours, the prize will go to the next runner up.

Here is the contest question again:

In light of the fact that Muslim men have 2 or more wives who are obedient, fruitful and multiply; should American wives go back to being submissive if their husbands go back to being providers for their families?

And here is Kandrea’s thoughtful answer:

While there are many women who have no problem with staying at home and being the sole household provider, I believe that women can be submissive to their men without giving up their independence so men can be providers. Women do not have to stay at home to be obedient, fruitful and multiply. In a marriage or relationship, one should be submissive to their partner as a form of respect to the other.

Partners have to be submissive to each other because not one person will be all knowledgeable in one aspect of the relationship. Husbands/fathers should feel obligated to provide for their families because they are the patriarch and foundation. Also this is not the age of “June Cleaver and Donna Reed” where women are supposed to spend their days cooking, cleaning, and joining women leagues. If we are going back to being submissive in the household, we might as well sleep in the same room in twin beds.

Celeb Style: Fabolous and Amar’e Stoudemire

Rapper Fabolous, left, and NBA Knicks player Amar’e Stoudemire watched Game Five of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat at The Ainsworth in NYC last night. In addition to their love of the game, the two men share a passion for high end timepieces.

In an earlier post I told you that if you want to catch a man with long money, you can start by familiarizing yourself with the things they like, such as knowing the make of expensive wristwatches they wear.

Men like Fabolous and Amar’e probably won’t be impressed with your knowledge of costly wristwatches (since they most likely got a five finger discount), but trust me, the real money men will be very impressed.

Mariah and Dembabies Victims of Tabloid Scam?

According to Roger Friedman of Showbiz411, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon‘s new twins were almost victims of a tabloid scam.

On Tuesday a woman from the Department of Child Protective Services showed up at the LA area hospital where Carey was breastfeeding her twins Monroe and Roc.

The twins were born 2 weeks prematurely and therefore they had higher bilirubin levels in their blood than normal full-term babies. So they required a week’s nap inside incubators under ultraviolet lights to decrease their jaundice.

Friedman’s story goes that Carey wasn’t lactating enough to feed both babies, so a nurse in the NICU suggested that she drink a bottle of Guinness Stout beer to stimulate lactation and increase milk production in her breasts.

Supposedly, the social worker told Nick Cannon she was following up on a claim of neglect (called in by a hospital staffer or a tabloid reporter), because Carey was drinking alcoholic beer and taking pain pills (for her C-section and her rumored tummy tuck) while breast feeding.

The social worker, in cahoots with a nurse (on a tabloid’s payroll), was hoping she could get a picture of the babies to sell to the tabs. But Cannon intervened so no pictures were allowed.

In response to the attempted scam, a horrified Cannon said, “Taxpayer money was wasted, too, because this was labeled an emergency. It was ridiculous.”

Aside from the scam, which is clearly illegal, would a nurse really suggest that a postpartum patient drink alcoholic beer to stimulate breast milk production?
