Singer Ledisi‘s fans protested when the Grammy’s chose burlesque singer Beyonce to sing the Negro spiritual “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” from the movie ‘Selma’. The song was originally performed with raw emotion by Ledisi. But the hand of fate intervened during Beyonce’s Grammy performance and her opening notes fell flat as Bey struggled with her limited vocal range. She was never able to fully recover after flubbing her opening notes. Most social media users agreed that Beyonce’s version paled in comparison to Ledisi’s excellent cover of Mahalia Jackson‘s “Precious Lord” in the movie ‘Selma’.

During her red carpet interview with ET’s Kevin Frazier Ledisi said she had no idea why Beyonce was chosen over her to sing “Precious Lord”. But it’s obvious the Grammy’s chose Beyonce over Ledisi because Bey is light skinned and fits the white standard of black beauty.
Beyonce’s husband, aging rapper Jay Z loves her even when she makes a mockery of one of the greatest gospel songs of all time.
