Jason Collins Boston Celtics gay NBA player

While the sports world buzzed about gay NFL players, a NBA player was planning to take his closet door off its hinges.

Jason Collins, center for the Boston Celtics, wrote a coming out letter exclusively for the May 6, 2013, issue of Sports Illustrated magazine.

I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport,” he writes. “But since I am, I’m happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn’t the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, “I’m different.” If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I’m raising my hand.”

Collins is obviously implying that there were other gay NBA players in the closet with him.

Magic Johnson and Elisa Johnson

Magic Johnson tweets

Magic Johnson publicly chastised man-child Dwight Howard for getting ejected from game 4 of the elimination game between his Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs in the 1st round of the NBA playoffs. The Spurs swept the Lakers to advance to round 2 against the Warriors or Denver. Howard, who received 2 technicals in the game, was tossed after arguing with a referee midway through the 3rd quarter of Sunday’s game. Johnson, 53, took to his Twitter account to tongue lash Howard for selfishly putting himself over the needs of the team.

Kelly Rowland

R&B beauty Kelly Rowland often goes without makeup, which explains why her skin has that natural, healthy glow.

“I started wearing makeup at 14 for Destiny’s Child,” Rowland tells People magazine. “I remember the first time I saw my lashes with mascara on them – it was my favorite thing. For me, makeup reminds me of work. Without it, I feel natural and untouched.”

Rowland’s album, Talk a Good Game, is set for release in June.

    Manti Te'o

Not one NFL team showed interest in former Notre Dame star Manti Te’o in the 1st round of Thursday’s 2013 NFL draft.

NFL scouts weary of Te’o’s distracting presence in the NFL locker room declined to draft the former Heisman candidate who had a terrible showing in the NFL Combines in February.

If you recall, Te’o made headlines for mourning a dead girlfriend who didn’t exist.

A male friend later stepped forward to say he pretended to be Te’o’s dead girlfriend for 3 years because he was in love with him. This led to rampant speculation that Te’o himself was gay.

West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith also wasn’t chosen in the 1st round — probably for the same reason that Te’o was passed over.
