Drudge Report is a Glaring Example of What’s Wrong with Today’s Media

Today’s headline on Matt Drudge’s news aggregate website Drudgereport.com screams “JEANTEL WARNED ZIMMERMAN COULD BE GAY RAPIST” — a reference to trial witness Rachel Jeantel who was the last person Trayvon Martin spoke to before he was killed by George Zimmerman. Jeantel’s first interview aired on CNN Monday night.

Drudge describes how Jeantel “opened up and let loose on the murder case that gripped that nation.”

And because he’s gay, Drudge immediately pounced on the notion that Jeantel called Zimmerman a “gay rapist.”

Of course, that’s not what she said, but that’s the way Drudge heard it.

Drudge’s frenzied headlines covering the Zimmerman verdict are intended to stoke the fears of jumpy conservatives who already sleep with one hand on their guns. His bigoted headlines are catering to the very same mentality that caused Trayvon’s death in the first place.

Drudge, like the rest of the national media, hoped for race riots in the wake of the verdict. And they are sorely disappointed that the riots didn’t take place.

Update: in the last 5 minutes, Drudge added the following headlines to his blog — an obvious attempt to make himself seem less biased.

Twitter user swiftly sabotages Zimmerman juror’s book deal

A Twitter user who launched a social media campaign to stop a juror in the George Zimmerman case from getting a book deal has succeeded in her effort — within six hours.
On Monday, Juror B37, one of six female jurors who made the controversial decision to acquit Zimmerman in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, told Anderson Cooper that she had signed with a literary agent to shop a tell-all book about her experience during the three-week, televised trial.

The agent, Sharlene Martin, told Yahoo News that the juror reached out to her on the advice of a producer from a morning show and that the juror had said she was planning to publish the book anonymously “given the sensitivity of the verdict and the outpouring of mixed reactions by the American public.”
Then came the social media campaign.
Genie Lauren, whose Twitter handle is @MoreAndAgain, tweeted out the agent’s contact information, urging fellow users to flood the agency with calls and emails “to stop the book deal from coming to fruition,” Uproxx.com reports.
“Hey, @sharlenemartin, please drop juror B37,” Lauren wrote. “Do not help the person who let a murderer get away profit from this tragedy.”
“Only thing I can think to do is flood Sharlene Martin’s phone, email, and snail mail, w/ requests that she drop juror B37,” she continued.
Lauren then launched a Change.org petition asking the agency to drop the unnamed juror:
After murdering Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman was acquitted, even though juror B37 admitted (in a CNN interview) that Zimmerman “went too far”, and didn’t “stop at the limitations he should’ve stopped at”. Now that very juror, who allowed Trayvon Martin’s killer to get away, is writing a book. Please don’t allow this person to profit off of the injustice that they’ve served to the American public. We deserve better. Trayvon Martin’s family deserves better.
The petition quickly reached 1,000 signatures, and the Martin Literary Agency released a statement late Monday:
After careful consideration regarding the proposed book project with Zimmerman Juror B37, I have decided to rescind my offer of representation in the exploration of a book based upon this case.
Juror B37 then announced she was abandoning the book idea:
I realize it was necessary for our jury to be sequestered in order to protect our verdict from unfair outside influence, but that isolation shielded me from the depth of pain that exists among the general public over every aspect of this case. The potential book was always intended to be a respectful observation of the trial from my and my husband’s perspectives solely and it was to be an observation that our “system” of justice can get so complicated that it creates a conflict with our “spirit” of justice. I don’t blame the Prosecution as much. Yeah, they probably could’ve done better, but Sanford police had screwed a lot of shat up too. The case was a difficult case because of the lack of evidence, and eye witnesses.

I thought they presented enough to the jury for 2nd-degree and definitely for manslaughter, but as you see now, these jurors was on some other shat.

THIS JUST IN… George Zimmerman filed a civil suit today just before 5PM EST at the Seminole County, Florida, Courthouse. The suit alleges the parents of Trayvon Martin, failed to control their minor-age son on the evening of February 26, 2012, when Martin repeatedly assaulted Zimmerman, placing him in imminent fear for his life and resulting in the death of Martin.

The civil action specifies that Zimmerman acted in self defense resulting in the case being ruled a justifiable homicide by a jury trial that ended on Saturday with a verdict of not guilty.

Desperate state prosecutors charged the victim with 2nd degree murder though they had no evidence of a crime and hoping to stay off more violence and having Florida put to the torch at the criminal hands of rioters months before the start of the state’s tourist season. The complaint further specifies Zimmerman shares “zero-liability” in the death of Martin as he acted without malice and solely in self-defense. The amount of damages Zimmerman is seeking are unspecified.

Zimmerman, 29, was forced to move from his home soon after the incident when the domestic terrorist organization the New Black Panther Party publically announced the group was offering a $10,000 bounty for Zimmerman, dead or alive. Attorney General Eric Holder later claimed there was no evidence to prosecute anyone from the Black Panthers, a decision that angered most Americans. President Obama supported Holder’s decision ignoring cries of foul from outraged citizens.

Zimmerman has remained in hiding since the shooting nearly 18 months ago and continues to receive thousands of death threats daily.

Before the shooting Zimmerman was well known and highly respected in the community for his volunteer and charity work including organizing the Neighborhood Watch program for his gated Sanford, Florida, community.

The jury’s verdict not only clears Zimmerman as an innocent man but it also justifies the excellent work of the Sanford Police Department who acted appropriately by not charging Zimmerman and clearly citing there was never any evidence to do so.

Under mounting public pressure from the black community the police chief was let go and the department has been vilified for the last 18 months being accused of racism, corruption, incompetency and covering up the cold-blooded murder of a child.

A Brief Summary of the Jury’s Findings…

On the night of February 26, 2012, Zimmerman spotted a stranger walking through his gated community and called 911 reporting the stranger appeared intoxicated and was seen prowling around several private residences in the community. Zimmerman opted to keep an eye on the person until the police arrived. Again desperate prosecutors during the trial would side with the propaganda version of events created by the Black Panthers claiming Zimmerman was pursuing Martin with intent to murder. However the jury easily spotted this turd in the punchbowl in the state’s case.

Zimmerman lost sight of the stranger and decided to return and wait in his car for police to arrive. Instead the stranger approached Zimmerman from behind and dropped him with a single “sucker-punch” to the nose. The victim fell to the ground whereupon the 17 year-old football player, now known to be Trayvon Martin, landed on the victim’s chest, held him down and repeatedly smashed his head into the pavement resulting in several head injuries.

Zimmerman, in fear for his life thankfully had a legal concealed handgun which he drew from his belt holster. The victim fired a single shot at his brutal would-be assassin; the bullet passing through Martin’s heart killing him instantly. It was Zimmerman’s 2nd Amendment right as a citizen to own and carry a handgun that clearly saved his life that night.

Zimmerman dispatched his attacker, now known to be a violent drug addled gangster-thug with a single bullet fired from his handgun. On Saturday evening the announcement came that the jury who tried the case had reached a verdict of not guilty. For obvious reasons this case will go down in the history of American jurisprudence as a true testament to the veracity of our justice system.

Will Smith appears to be officially locked into his next project (after this summer’s After Earth, starring his son Jaden Smith); when we last reported on it, he was said to be “in talks” to star in Warner Bros’ con-man film Focus, which previously had Ben Affleck as the top choice to play the role that Will Smith will now play. Affleck had to drop out as other commitments got in the way.

Also, when Affleck was the man for the job, Kristen Stewart was to star opposite him, playing his co-conspirator, as well as love interest, but she left the project when Smith jumped on-board, citing, according to Variety, an age gap between the two of them that was too wide (Will is 44, Stewart is 23). Although, that apparently wasn’t too much of a problem for her, when Ben Affleck, who’s not that much younger than Smith, was the candidate for the role. Affleck is 40.
