Retired NBA superstar Kobe Bryant blames himself for his wife Vanessa's miscarriage during his rape scandal. The 36-year-old father of 2 was accused of having his way with a perky Caucasian desk clerk at the Colorado resort hotel where he was staying in 2003.
Bryant revealed Vanessa Bryant's miscarriage in a new Showtime documentary. Fighting back tears, he said Vanessa was pregnant with what would have been his 2nd child when she lost the baby after the world learned about Bryant's adulterous affair with the desk clerk.
"The reality is that it happened because of me," Bryant said. "That's the reality of it. And that's something I have to deal with, something I got to carry forever."
Bryant said the stress of the 24-hour blanket news coverage of his womanizing ways got to Vanessa.
"We were expecting," Bryant said, pausing for a brief moment. "Expecting our second child during that time and there was just so much stress. She actually, she -- we actually miscarried."
The Colorado woman was no doubt persuaded to drop the charges against Bryant. Vanessa eventually recovered from the stress of their ordeal and got pregnant again. She gave birth to their second daughter, Gianna Maria-Onore Bryant, on May 1, 2006.
