NBA star John Wall is still reeling from the sting of criticism he received when he wasted $20K on a painting of himself.

To redeem himself, the Wizards star generously donated $400,000 of his NBA salary to Bright Beginnings homeless shelter in Washington, D.C.

Bright Beginnings Executive Director, Dr. Betty Jo Gaines announced the donation on the charity's Facebook Page.

This morning, Washington Wizards point guard, John Wall surprised our organization and BBI Executive Director, Dr. Betty Jo Gaines with a generous donation of $400,000. This phenomenal contribution will significantly impact the development of Bright Beginnings’ second child development center at 3418 4th Street SE in Ward 8.

“Support from individuals like Mr. Wall, gives Bright Beginnings the encouragement to continue to provide comprehensive services for homeless children in the District of Columbia. It is evident that John Wall is sensitive and concerned about the plight of homeless children in DC and he wants theses children to succeed.”

I don't know about the rest of y'all, but John is redeemed in my eyes.

Now, someone needs to ensure the donation is used for charity and not personal use, or mishandling of funds. Some people are just plain crooks, to include the Red Cross

Add the Salvation Army to that list.

One year, I donated a bunch of clothes, shoes, dishes, and a sofa. I still miss that sofa. ?

When I dropped the clothes off, the employees started sifting through the bags. I heard one employee literally scream when he discovered the Nike Shoxs in the bag. He said, "Man! These my size!"

That was my last donation to the Salvation Army.

  • iWasteTime

    eek

  • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

He didn't need to be redeemed to me. He can spend his money on whatever he wants. But that was a wonderful thing he did for the shelter. The really struggle for money and I hope his donation will put them a position to help more needy people.

  • Str8tUpMenace

    That's a good look!!!!!!!

  • WHITTYwithWORDS

    HI

  • Miany

We actually do not because folk get turned away from these places (when they are at capacity) all of the time....

  • Miany

Hey Lucy...I mean hey "I love Kdub"

  • Sage&Chic

    Well done!

  • Jen_n_juice

    Good way to give back!

  • ATL White Guy

Excellent.....good to see a young celebrity giving back. It's not good to spend other people's money, but if all celebrities gave back say 10% to their communities a lot could be accomplished.

  • 1/8

Really? In Chicago, there are women and children's shelters, everywhere. Most of the people who are being turned away are men.

  • Bootcampgirl

'Ol girl has a nice rack..

  • http://yeuphonic.com @yeuphonic

Well they're literally reselling the items, they rarely donate anything you give. They use the money from the resale to operate. Also, they're some of the very few employers that hire ex convicts. So I'm not surprised that the employees donated items to self, just interesting that people take it personally.

  • Buttercup

yes sandra rose YOU DID THAT! You think he read your article and felt guilty?

  • <—Doesn'tTalkToStrangers

WHALE he should give the painting to this place, and they can auction it off, and make more money :D

He can even buy it back himself, at the auction!!! :hahaha: :ghost: :kona:

  • <—Doesn'tTalkToStrangers

You can do it!!!!! GOD bless

  • Unita Lucinda “Lucy” Freebush

I was thinking more like where they store transportation, but...bless his heart.

  • mzwhang90210

Your blessing is in the giving...it's not your concern what happens to it after that..no?
I'd go batty worrying/wondering about the perfectly good, practically new things that I've donated.
Who got them, did they really deserve them...blah blah blah.
I just drop em off..say a prayer..and hope that Jesus saw me.
    Oh yeah..gimme my hug *hugs*

  • 1/8

After that experience, I decided to donate my time. On weekends, I used to ride around with the Salvation Army's mobile feeding unit, passing out food. During that time, I discovered one of the drivers was charging people for the donated food.

The last time I gave away clothes, I put them in plastic bags, took them downtown, and gave them to the homeless people on the street. One man thought I was trying to trick him when I handed him a pair of boots.

  • Cricket404

Great! And Dr. Betty Jo will watch over every penny like a hawk God willing.

  • BarbieLenox

    Wow. Go Mr. Wall.

  • EasyBreezy

That's nice, but don't you get the feeling the exec. director will celebrate when she RECEVES the cash? #facialexpressionssayalot

its your money bro. use it how you wish. Just make sure you have a great retirement plan

  • mzwhang90210

    Charging folks for donated food?????
See...this kinda tom-fugglery makes me livid!!

But umm yeah, I feel you on not wanting to donate stuff .

Once we donated a printer that we'd only used ONCE..but the "return/exchange" policy had expired. (It still had ink/paper inside).
Listen... I'd barely pulled out of the parking lot, when I glanced in my rear view and saw the guy that helped me unload my donations...putting the printer and some other things in his trunk.
It took me reciting every Bible verse that I knew...not to turn around and confront him!!!
LOL...that's when I said, "I hope Jesus saw me leave it there...what happens after that...is not my responsibility."

  • 1/8

That little dog in your profile pic is too cute! LMAO! ?

Once, I took a woman into KFC to buy her 3 piece meal, because she said she was hungry. Before I could finish placing the order, the manager started yelling, "Are you buying this for the lady behind you? She has been getting people to buy food and then she tries to return it for money!"

Sometimes, I understand mm folks who ignore people who claim to be in need.
