Amber Rose

If at first you don't succeed: try, try again.

Socialite Amber Rose just announced her Slut Walk 2 event to be held on Oct. 1st in downtown Los Angeles.

According to her press release, the "mother, philanthropist, feminist and entrepreneur" and her non-profit foundation also launched a CROWDRISE campaign at CrowdRise.com/SlutWalkLA in hopes of making this year's event even bigger than last year's Slut Walk.

The goal of Slut Walk is to uplift and empower women and fight against victim blaming when loose women wear barely-there come-hither outfits that provoke men to be men.

The money raised from donations on CrowdRise will be used to provide on-site services such as HIV testing, counseling, sexual awareness booths, food and merchandise vendors and a host of other services. But most importantly, donations will support the foundation and organizations across the country of women who have been subject to slut shaming, sexual assault, and even rape.

big ups to amber for doing this. i have participated in a slut walk a few years ago and have hosted a booth there for an org i was involved with. hearing a lot of survivor stories of women is really touching. no shade to Amber for contributing to sexual assault awareness and organizations attempting to remedy things.

*Pauses cause I like Ambs* See it’s not the slut walk per se…. It’s the folks that took it and made it a cliché, tacky, a side show. You had folks walking around with DILL DOUGHS inserting into their “woo has” chanting no means no. I was like *clutch the pearls* So you mean to tell me the DILL DOUGH go to CUT IT too if you change your mind and say no? Folks tripping. How you bussing nuts and saying stop at the same D time… with yourself?

victim blaming when loose women wear barely-there come-hither outfits that provoke men to be men
    *********
Woman can (and do) wear what they want and act how they want. That gives NO ONE the right to do anything but look. You can look but don't touch. Why is this a hard concept to grasp. If you're on a diet and see cookies, you LOOK at the cookies but DON'T TOUCH THEM. Simplest way I can explain. You can be inside the warmest wettest snatch and the female says stop or no and that's whats supposed to happen.

I don't think a victim should ever be blamed, even if she was wearing something skimpy. But the whole slut naming thing is so white to me. When white women talk about it, it's doesn't come off as a fight against being a victim but more like having approval to be a slut. White women can't do nothing without feeling that everyone is on board with their behavior. If you want to go have sex go have sex. Why does the world have to say "You go Amanda and have that one night stand and feel good about it!" If you didn't tell everyone no one would have to know about your one night stands. It's like how they cut up on Halloween night. Like it is a license.

    ====================================
To be fair Auntie, there are plenty of loose women that don't dress in barely there, come hither outfits...and there are plenty of women that aren't loose that dress in those types of outfits...it shouldn't matter what a woman is wearing, that doesn't give a man (or whoever) the right to slut shame, rape, or sexually assault her...

  • melissaisasnob

  • ReadingIsFundamental4Real

Agree but, some women know this and use it against men. They want the attention but, under their own terms and when a man doesn't give it to them they way they want, it's all his fault for "slut shaming her". Walk like a duck, talk like a duck, dress like a duck... you will get treated like a duck. Now that is outside the topic of rape. There are so many variables in the situations that end up in sexual assault. I will just say that it is never okay to rape someone and it is equally never okay to cry wolf because you are embarrassed the next day.. or you get knocked up because of your bad choices and now you wanna cry rape. It makes it hard for real victims.

  • AnonymousRose

    - Lurker

  • jussaying

can you expand on the first sentence? b/c to me this seems to go against what Petty put. if i want sexytime, i think it should be under my terms or under terms that both of us consent to. if i dress sexy like a dominatrix, and said man takes actions i'm uncomfortable with, i should still have the right to say no. if he then proceeds, that is rape. we are allowed to change our minds, yes? and just because i have worn a latex cat suit with the nips out or whatever, shouldn't mean that i now have to subject myself to whatever sexual desire ol dude wanted.. lmao this is a hypothetical btw.

  • raysorbladeczar

See, I'm cool with standing up for those who have been shamed because of rape, sexual assault and what not. However, why can't we encourage women to make better decisions about who we sleep with and go home at night to? I mean if you want a one night cool, but really? you need a parade to stand up for the right to walk out in the middle of the night from a one night stand? really? This seems like to me as two different issues...

  • ReadingIsFundamental4Real

hypothetical huh?? lol I'm talking about walking down the street looking like a duck and then get mad cause you getting treated like a duck. I'm all for pausing during sex to redefine what the hell we are doing because ish ain't going well. Probably isn't fair to do it right when you know dude is about to bust but, hey... it's your right. :-)

i don't know if all women who have a lot of sex are maladjusted in any way that is more prominent than your average female, but i do know that word was created by men as a form of oppression. because historically, sex was never supposed to be enjoyable for women in our patriarchal society. it was to secure power. and hell, you still have acts of female genital mutilation going on with the intent to "curb a woman's sexual appetite" so they stay "faithful" to their man. branding a woman a slut is a control tactic and tied to this idea that women - GOOD women, mind you - are supposed to be these virginal and "clean" beings... but men who sleep around a lot, what do we call them..

  • Nancy Drew on my ibrowse today

God bless any and all victims of sexual assault.

  • BrownSugar

Black women, we have bigger ish to worry about. #thatsall

  • jussaying

lmao.. hypothetical indeed -halo- :D :D. see, i'm not sure i agree with that although i know it's common sense. it just annoys me that when we have to consider how we dress, we have to think about how we'll be received by men. that we need to stifle our creative expression so not to indirectly illicit sexually aggressive advances from men. and even when we DO dress "appropriately," we still get those calls or those advances or unwarranted comments. why is it so hard for us to ask for men to just be decent human beings? i don't see a lot of women making lewd gestures or vocalizing (loudly) mind you how they feel about men when we see one [or two] we find attractive. and even though a nice suit and strong jawline is my jam, i'm not demanding some nicely dressed man to lie down so i can sit on his face. furthermore, as a global economy has lent people the means to travel, migrate, etc... we are a melting pot of different cultures. for instance, when i stayed in brasil, it's hot as fugg there and thus that kind of translated to how they generally dress.. they tend to be a bit more 'forthcoming' and show more skin then other people. and i noticed this tended to be true regardless of where they were... ie, lived in espana and knew a brazilian girl whose outfits were generally more revealing. now, if i am in latex platforms, a g string, a plastic latex skirt and a fishnet top or something and standing on a street corner.. okay sure, but if a female wants to wear a short dress and stilettos why does that give them the right to make sexual advances toward her? and why do we excuse it and put the blame on the female because the man doesn't have enough impulse control to stfu and keep his hands to himself?

  • Nancy Drew on my ibrowse today

Hilarious at hail (but spot on hun)! FOH.

  • jussaying

yes ma'am.. i used to be a counselor and ran a hotline. and i remember two of the scariest calls i ever received were: 1.) from a lady who had been sexually abused as a child and as a result had developed DID (dissociative identity disorder) and transitioned to a diff personality on the phone with me O.O. regular woman & then kid voice... SO WEIRD. 2.) this lady who had been raped many times by her husband who was abusive.. and she had called, THEN, her hubby came back home & she said she had to hide the phone bc she wasn't supposed to be on and i could hear him yelling at her in the background, voices escalating and the line went off.. still wonder what happened to her and pray she is alive and okay.

  • EXECUTIVE LURKER

Well, I really think you should ask Amber. She is marketing and promoting the event using that term.

I get it tho...my dear. A woman can do what ever she wants with her body, sleep with as many men as she chooses, dress as explicit as she wants and you are wrong if you call her a slut. After all its her body and her business. Therefore you should never try to embarass her , or shame her or "call her a slut".

Im suggesting that if you teach its ok behave, and dress in what ever sexualized manor you please......

Why not take the opportunity to teach grace and elegance and poise.

And maybe just a touch of Old Fashion Grandma Wisdom

" Can I get an AMEN for the ladies with the hankercheif on their lap sitting in the front row of Church".(Smile and a wink)

    - Lurker

  • Nancy Drew on my ibrowse today

    lol!

  • PettyEyezPrime

True. However, men want what's easiest. If she looks easy, they will holla. THOT'n has become a way of life. No effort has to be made on the males part and this is what they love. Females can take responsibility but makes foolishly fall into the trap.

  • http://www.pureromance.com LA

Wow!! Bless your heart... Keep doing what you are doing... The worlds needs people like you.. God Bless!

  • jussaying

firstly, amber did not coin that term. that slut walk has been in existence long before she came along to host one of her own.

secondly, it's not "teaching" one to behave and dress in a seuxalized manner or condoning those that do so. it's not "teaching" or "condoning" a person to behave in one way or another.

it is exposing how victims of sexual assault are treated. how we vilify the victim. how blame is shifted. and how we use these subjective ideas of what "grace" and "elegance" and "poise" look like to make judgments about those that don't fit our ideals of what is proper and how those ideas of how women SHOULD act affect their ability to seek justice for ills committed against them.

you have your own gauge of morality, social rites, and culture.. i get it. that's great for you. but we live in a BIG world where your ideals aren't shared by other people, and that's cool. those people still deserve to be treated fairly and equally under the law and by society.

  • Nancy Drew on my ibrowse today

    oh my goodness!
your "1)" sounds like that movie Sybil (with Joanne Woodward). she had all these personalities and the dominant was mannish and very protective of her(self). I saw that movie as a young girl, and only understood it much later in life. I hate a rapist, pervert, POS dude who lives to terrorize women and/or children!

  • jussaying

yesss.. i've read the book and seen the movie as well. sally did a great job! but yes, it was so weird because she liked to talk about masturbation too so i had to lead her away from that topic of conversation. i don't do the hotline anymore though it was too stressful and it interfered with my sleep in more ways than one lol. half the time, it would be some weirdo pervert who purposely called the hotline to masturbate in your ear like wtf

  • MissHarlem

Yup but she doesn't play that card

  • Nancy Drew on my ibrowse today

those people still deserve to be treated fairly and equally under the law and by society.
    ___________________
    agree 100% with this!
maybe my issue is with Amber, and maybe I feel like she's appropriating what was earnestly a worthy cause simply for attention. I mean, can you say you are slut-shamed when you voluntarily have your vulva pasted all over the internet for 'hits' and 'likes'? Or, does this behavior fall under the umbrella of 'I'm still not a slut' just because I happened to display my "Georgia O'Keeffe" all over the innerwebs as a form of self expression?

  • jussaying

LOL no i definitely get that... and i agree. a lot of what she does is distasteful. so yeah, i get people having an issue with amber and those like her. i guess i was thinking more in 'realistic' terms because i - like many women - have been a victim of slut shaming or aggressive sexual advances and/or insults.

  • Nancy Drew on my ibrowse today

yeah, you're built stronger than I am. some stuff I can't even read about without it interfering with my sleep (especially stuff concerning kids).
and as for those pervs who were NOT seeking help, they woulda been summarily cursed out, and I woulda been summarily fired. LOL!
thanks for doing what you do!

aw thank you.. i don't fight that fight anymore. lol it's too emotionally taxing but bless the ladies i have met - survivors and the warriors - all the same.

  • ReadingIsFundamental4Real

guhl, that's what boys like; not real men. A real man wants a woman he can respect. I had to fend off a few stalker boys before I found a man. Took me 30 years on God's green earth but, I learned the difference.

  • Low E. {CIRCA 1908}

AT ALL...I SAW CAPE VERDE AND SHE CAME TO MIND...I'VE BEEN ONE TRACK ALL DAY TODAY.

  • jussaying

lol girrrrl... i did it for about 5 or 6 years and then i was like nope i can't handle it. you burn out. we used to do hospital and court advocacy as well. girrrl, the hospital stuff was so hard bc you are there immediately after the incident has happened and i always wanted to cry. i had to curse out a detective once for speaking to a victim all rudely and accusing her. the stuff you have to deal with smh. lol it was volunteer so they could never fire me.. but ugh, yeah i considered that anyone who calls a rape hotline to masturbate probably is demented anyway.

  • ReadingIsFundamental4Real

it absolutely doesn't give them the right. you can demand respect in a short dress and stilettos. Don't act like a duck, you won't get treated like one. :-) And for the boys who try it, you can ignore them in a very classy way... they silly ass might call you a b*tch while you walk off but, we don't answer to their childish ways.

  • Nancy Drew on my ibrowse today

oh, I most definitely have too. only in my case it had absolutely nothing to do with HOW I dressed. I was a shy modest and insecure girl, but my body was what you young folks now call "banging" Lol! I had men approaching me asking me if they could 'just touch' my behind, smh. I've been in loose fitting sweats and sneakers and still had my friends' brothers and cousins just brazenly fondle me, ugh! it was truly horrible (and humiliating). I finally tried to shrink my butt and started wearing even looser fitting tops because I couldn't take all the unwanted attention. so, I guess me wanting to change myself to avoid being assaulted was a form of slut shaming?

  • jussaying

    LOL... chest bump.

  • Nancy Drew on my ibrowse today

    volunteer, you say????
oh, you really ARE a jewel, Lol! :hugs:

  • jussaying

lmfao nancy no one says banging anymore ;P. and that's horrible. and actually its evidence that supports why slut shaming is so silly... because sexual assault happens to all kind of people regardless of what they are wearing. i'm sorry you had to go through that.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

Amber rose is white . Why does everyone keep thinking she's black? Both her parents are white people. Lord have mercy why do black people like picking up everyone else's trash? I'm jamaican, Jamaican is filled with other ethnicities other than black people. I don't assume they're black because they live in a country with mostly black people. It is possible to be white and African at the same time, like Amber mama, Charlize Theron etc. Amber wears bronzer She white we don't want her, white folks can have and keep her. I don't care how dark her mama is she white, I'm diluting myself to squeeze that smut Amber in. FOH! Look at her black parents ( see pic)

  • Nancy Drew on my ibrowse today

hush! I thought I was so on-point saying "banging"

  • EXECUTIVE LURKER

Im aware of the History of the Slut Walk events. I know Amber didnt create it , nor is she the First to promote the event. She attached herself to it. Rather she Championed it.

Children , young adults, girls in this case are bombarded by sexualization in todays environment. Music videos, song lyrics, Instagram models, popular fashion, and television. All of these forms of medium are selling something, promoting something, and YES TEACHING, ...the same way a teacher reads a book, shows a video, describes events or encourages and guides you to learn through repetition.

The most impressionable are our children. Parents have an uphill battle today with onslaught of sexual imagery and Easy Accessibility.

My question to you my beautiful black sister is.......

    What is Amber teaching..........?

    - Lurker

  • MissHarlem

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

Oh ok. I'm just tired of people calling her black when she isn't. Being black should be exclusive not inclusive.

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

There is tons of 'slut-shaming' in the black community and most of it comes from other women especially women who've been called sluts themselves.

That's why I question your assuming that slut-shaming is a white thing.

  • GTFOHWTBS

How about calling it the Fish Walk. She looks smelly and need to drop some serious pounds. Goes to show, a black man will stick anything.

  • Fendi

How unfortunate that a women's empowerment event write-up slut shames women. Whether a woman is a virgin or a harlot, it doesn't give a man or woman the right to sexually abuse or rape her. (Because all rapists aren't men.)

A woman's attire doesn't give another man or woman the right to sexually abuse or rape her. The title "Slut Walk" wasn't created by Amber, nor was the concept. She picked it up from the Canadian originator and brought it to the states.

Loose woman or chaste woman, a woman has the right to choose or deny what happens to her sexually. Let's not forget there are male victims of rape. And their aggressors aren't always men. I've heard multiple stories of young boys "having sex with" teen girls. That isn't consensual sex, but rather rape.

Rape culture is something that needs to be addressed. Legislation needs to change so victims no longer feel compelled to be or shamed into silence.

  • country57

I wish I can be back in the 70s though I'm an 80s baby when they had female activists that actually were inspiring with they're CLOTHES ON and not refering to women as sluts while dressed like one ???... Sadly they're men out here that are perverts and molestors and rapist. I will never blame a woman for another mans action but GoD did say not to be out here setting up temptation because it's a sin that most human beings esp men cannot control. That is why dressing like a lady and showing that you treasure your body enough to not be out here allowing everybody to see it will help control the actions of these sick a// men out here....waling around with your breast out and a$$ hanging out and then expect a man not to

I need to see the paperwork on this. I think she will say and do anything to stay in the limelight. She promotes an image "Use what we got to get what we want" She got on by being the GF of Kanye. If a person is a slut then that's what you are male or female. Maybe she should call it THOT Walk. All I know is she seems to be a very promiscuous person. Maybe low self esteem is the reason she dresses and acts the way she does. She is like a mansion that no one ever buys they just rent it

I agree and I hv been a victim of a sexual assault Every woman I encountered were all treated like nothing more than docket number ... It didn't matter if you dressed a certain way, or where you lived There is something in society that wants to find fault in the victim. Why didn't you run, why did you do this or that. The people who are supposed to help you are the ones that made me feel the worst. Women are still made to feel like they in some way are at fault. The programs and services available are a joke. You may find 1 or 2 people that really help you

  • Wuts got Petty Davis Eyes..

Reminds me of Dave Chapell. He said if he see a person in a police uniform, he thinks there is a police officer..He aint call no one a heaux.. but if you wear the uniform..

As if hoes need any more empowerment. FOH.
You know this trashy, low class, TRIFLING mother's life ain't about ish. Slut walk? Really...that's what you're calling your so-called campaign to uplift women? For real? Thirsty, nasty bish. smdh. And what's really sad is how BLACK women love this fat hoe. QUICK to claim her and to defend her...when we already are perceived as "loose" and hypersexual.
