August Alsina and Chandra

August Alsina is mourning the loss of his late brother's girlfriend, Chandra, who lost her battle with cancer on Christmas Day. The R&B singer took to social media on Wednesday to pay tribute to Chandra, the girlfriend of his older brother Melvin LaBranch III, who was fatally shot in New Orleans in 2010.

The grieving musician posted a special video featuring footage of Chandra. He captioned the video:

"Chandra... @_chachacha My Sister, My friend, life giver to my nieces, my hair magician, my biggest supporter, my number one fan.

"We lost such a beautiful soul on Christmas Night To the battle with cancer. I am Utterly devastated & Deeply shattered! Not only for myself, but for my 3 little nieces, whom are now robbed of BOTH parents."

August questioned the meaning of life, and called on God to provide answers.

"First they killed Mel, Now Cancer has stolen you," he wrote. "What is life? Why is life? Why is THIS life? I'm calling on God for the answers. I don't question God but THIS I'm not in agreement with..."

Chandra leaves behind three daughters. And August pledged to look after them.

"Please say hello to Melvin & hug him for me, & just ask God to cover the emotions of the girls and allow their hearts to be open, accepting and able to receive love... I'm a DAD now & I have 3 daughters, & i don't know the slightest thing about it or where to start but unfortunately I/we know loss too well," he concluded. "Rest In Peace my dearest sweet sister.. You made it out of this hell hole."

August is not new to tragedy unfortunately. This young man has gone through A LOT in his life. Mama not wanting him, death of a brother, homelessness, now this. He’ll persevere because that’s what he knows how to do. Even under pressure he perseveres. Those little girls will be good with him. I pray for his peace and strength.

  • VM

Yes, I know this all too well. My sister was diagnosed stage 3 Triple negative breast cancer at 35. We've been on this journey for almost a year. I will be praying for your sister and your family.

  • Parent

    Thanks dear. Let us pray.
