Lawyers for convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius hope a South African parole review board will release him to home confinement today.

Pistorius, 28, was found not guilty of murder and convicted of the lesser charge of culpable homicide in the shooting death of his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day 2013.

Pistorius claimed he thought an intruder was in his Pretoria mansion when he fired five shots through a bathroom door.

Reeva Steenkamp

Before she was murdered, model Reeva Steenkamp sent text messages to Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius telling him she was “scared” of him.

Pistorius, 27, is currently on trial in a South African court for premeditated murder in the shooting death of Steenkamp.

“I’m scared of you sometimes and how you snap at me and of how you will react to me. You make me happy ninety percent of the time and I think we are amazing together … but I am not some other bitch … trying to kill your vibe,” Steenkamp wrote in a Jan. 27, 2013, WhatsApp message.

Pistorius bowed his head as police investigator Francois Moller read Steenkamp’s text messages aloud in court.

Obama Sign Language Interpreter

The Johannesburg man accused of faking sign language interpretation for President Obama and other world leaders was part of a mob who burned 2 thieves to death in 2003, the Associated Press reports.

Jantjie stood less than 3 feet away from President Obama, and other world leaders, who spoke at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service last week.

One of Jantjie’s cousins and three of his friends told the AP he was among a group of men who accosted two television thieves and placed tires around their necks before setting them on fire.

Deaf South Africans are outraged that the man chosen to interpret President Obama’s speech at Mandela’s Memorial Service Tuesday was a fraud.

Three sign language interpreters say the man was not signing in any known language. They accused the man of “making up his own signs”.

What was supposed to be a dignified, solemn ceremony for a beloved world leader turned into a comedy of errors. From Obama taking selfies and flirting with the Danish PM to a fake sign language interpreter. Mr. Mandela deserved more respect than this.

Kanye West

Troubled music producer and rapper Kanye West took to his Twitter account yesterday to clear up rumors that he compared himself to the late, great Nelson Mandela.

In a series of tweets, Kanye lauded Mandela for serving “as a guiding light to illuminate our future,” and he chastised the media for engineering “false stories and noise” about him.

“I’ve never said anything to dishonor or trivialize the life or transition of one of the most inspiring leaders,” West tweeted.

It isn’t clear how the rumor got started, but it’s not a stretch to believe the egotistic producer said those things about himself. Anyway, thanks to Kanye for clearing that up.

Kelly Rowland with baby lion

Songbird Kelly Rowland took a private tour of a nature preserve in South Africa where she cradled a baby lion. Kelly is in South Africa to perform at a mansion party for wealthy South African businessman Douw Steyn. The public is not invited and the guest list is a well-kept secret. The opulent mansion is located in Fourways, North of Johannesburg, according to MSN Entertainment blog.

Andre Neveling, editor of heat magazine, says: “We’re massive Kelly Rowland fans at heat Towers, so we were thrilled to welcome her back to South Africa. It’s the first time since 2010 that Kelly has visited SA. She told us she’s really enjoying her new judging stint on X-Factor USA and that she’d love to return to South Africa for a full tour.”
