Don’t complain to me

All day yesterday I received angry emails from my loyal readers wanting me to put a certain site on blast for reportedly disrespecting one of our most respected and loved poets – Maya Angelou. Allegedly, this site referred to Ms. Angelou in a post titled “H* sit down.”

First of all, I warned you guys about that site last year. At the time I told you that, unlike FUBU, that site is not by us or for us.

Yet you continually supported that site even when it referred to us as b*tches and h*s. Apparently it was ok for them to continually degrade our sistas and ridicule our culture, so why is it a problem now? Hmmm?

Personally I don’t visit sites that degrade black women. When they call one of us a b*tch or a h*, they are referring to all of us. Respect yourself first if you want others to respect you.

Sandra, are you saying that Bossip isn’t “black owned”? or that its ran by individuals that are not of African descent? when you said “its ok for them to degrade our sisters…” that made me think the above…(key word: them)

That site did what Don Imus did. Political incorrectness is in right now. People like the negativity. Despite the fact that most of the comments were blasting the site, the fact remains that the site probably got thousands of hits for referring to Ms. Angelou as a ho and that particular blog topic got hundreds and hundreds of comments. Ultimately that is what the site wants. Hits mean advertising dollars. I finally figured the best thing for me to do was not to return to the site while that blog was posted. I can’t promise never to return because that is one of very few black blogs that are competing with TMZ and Perez Hilton with regard to the number of updates they do throughout the day. Love B Scott is trying to hang, but he doesn’t have a lot of juicy gossip.

When I read the “Ho Sit Down” bit, I wasnt even upset or surprised. I kind of expected stupidity like that on B O S S I P . But, for people to email complaints Sandra like she’s the blog savior or blog police or something… Thats ridiculous. She is just as disrespectful, if not more. I read Bossip daily just like I read this blog daily. Each one talks bullsh** and get out of line, but I will continue to read them because its my daily entertainment. I was upset about them referring to Maya Angelou as a hoe. That was very disrespectful. She has the right to endorse anyone she wants to just like every other American in this country. I believe Bossip is black owned though. Either way, with the way that Sandra disrespects our black people almost on a daily basis, I am surprised that anyone would email her asking her to put another blog on blast for doing the same…..PLEASE!!!!

I have to agree with SR on this one. That site frequently calls women degrading names. No matter if you agree or disagree with someone’s dress, political choice or comments… I dont think you should take pride in calling someone a HO. What I didnt understand is how the posters were upset about them calling Maya a ho, but they dont get upset when any other woman is called the same… almost like they deserve it but Maya gets a pass? That will be the last time I visit the site.

Hey. I actually e-mailed Sandra about the post and I was happy that she mentioned it on her site. I wasn’t aware that Bossip regularly dissed such influential people and I only visited the site for my daily dose of celebetard gossip. I can assure you that after an antic like yesterday’s, I will NOT be visiting again. I personally believed they crossed the line. But that’s MY opinion. I will say that from what I’ve seen on sandrarose, she does spread the negative gossip but I’ve also seen her be very supportive. I think she’s fair and balanced in her opinions and that is something I can appreciate and respect. It’s when u post for popularity’s sake that I question the motives on a site…

The people over at “THAT SITE” know exactly what they are doing. They put something like Maya Angelou, being a h**, they know that they will receive a lot of hits, which brings in advertising money. they have over 1,000 hits in less than 24hrs! I gaurantee, the same ones that complain about the whole, Maya Angelou being a ho, are the same ones that will be back for more. Black people love controversy and love to get mad at someone. They want to go back because it’s like a drug, or morning coffee. And because Sandra, posted “THAT SITE’s” name, people here will start going there as well. Sandra is helping advertise that site.
Oh well. Like I said, it didn’t affect me. I thought it was funny.

Don’t believe the rumors. People are mad because they have successfully branched out into other (non-black) markets. They are savvy black business owners and a lot of people find it hard to equate success with being black.

My problem is this. B o s s i p claims to be an Obama supporter yet they seem to be doing things to tarnish his image. They didn’t run one report about the Kennedy’s endorsing Barack despite how powerful and passionate their words were. And has Oprah gotten love from them since her endorsement? NO. Instead what they do is attack any black person who supports Hillary. If I recall correctly Bob Johnson also had the “H o Sit Down” title for his completely out of pocket statements about Barack’s prior youthful drug use. I agreed with them on that one. The problem with this one was Maya didn’t say anything negative or sensational about Barack. Like Magic Johnson she was attacked for simply supporting Hillary. They are out of line for that and it makes Barack look bad which is why I wonder if they really do support him.

This is yet another issue that makes me look in the mirror. I was not mad at Imus and I clowned those girls when they got their hair did for the press conference, but I had to ask myself if I was wrong. I’m not going to hold white people to a higher standard than I hold blacks. If we call women h o e s for the world to hear then everyone can call them h o e s. We have to do better as people. America is going to hell in a hand basket as evidenced by the fact that we all call people h o e s for the sole purpose of being offensive because we think being offensive is funny. Cooning is the new in thing and black folks are not the only ones doing it. It has gone mainstream.

Personally I never heard about that site nor am I anymore interested in visiting there because of some sort of ridiculous controversy. I don’t see why people are expecting Sandra to be the way the truth and the light that needs to be shined on this site. Sandra disrespects men, women, and even children on a regular, so it is monumental hypocrisy to complain about another site doing the same. When people complain about Sandra her supporters always defend her right to say whatever she wants because after all it is her blog. So I assume you grant the other site the same right. Frequently Sandra has even been praised for her skill in outraging people because it increases traffic to her site. So I assume the other site will be similarly praised by those same people. Sandra talks about sites that disrespect or degrade black women. But when Gabrielle Union called out her and other black blogs for disrespecting black women, Sandra basically laughed at her. In the recent discussion of the Detroit mayor, Sandra basically said that all black men are liars and cheats. Does that qualify as “disrespect”? But it’s all okay for Sandra because: it’s her blog and she can say what she wants; because she has freedom of speech; because it’s all just entertainment; because if you don’t like it you’re free to leave; because Sandra is really just doing it to increase site traffic and she should be recognized for her brilliance in knowing that outraging people will do that. Fine. I have no problem with any of those defenses of Sandra. I would only point out that then you have to grant the same rationales to every other site that does the same. Agreed?

I mean its just not about consumer purchases…what have you done for your community as well. Like people bytch and moan about politicians or the laws being passed in their counties BUT how many of those same people vote for local leaders. Voting does not just begin and end with the White House people…

I live in the Washington,DC area and you would think since we are in the Nation’s Capitol and have access to all issues right here people would take the opportunity to at least know wth is going on in their own communities. The House of Representatives and Senate’s voting sessions are ALWAYS open to the public…also you have access to listen to their discussions about what they plan to do in your community. How many folks take advantage of those opportunities? Very few.

We don’t need Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson or Oprah to stand-up for Black people…you have voice as well and if you aren’t a felon you have the right to vote.

but ne way ive been voting since i turned 18 and i’ll vote until i die. i know all of the local politicians in my county and the senate and so forth. i tell ppl all the time, if u dnt vote dnt complain about nothing. and ive been volunteering since i was 16 and contiue to do so. even if i help one child im satisfied with that because atleast im trying.

im not gonna sit up here and lie, in the past ive purchased rap music but after i kept on hearing things i didnt agree with in the music i stopped purchasing thier music. the last rap cd i purchased was DMX (his 3rd cd) yes that long ago, lol

Do I even sound like I get all my information from blogs? If so, I’ve definately got some self examination time planned. Let me stop being sarcastic. The only information I expect to get from blogs is entertainment gossip. I don’t even expect that to be true most of the time. I’m a news junky so I spend just as much time on news sites around the country as I do on blogs. My point was that Bossip is covering Barack, but only as it pertains to blacks who are supporting Hillary. Why are they doing that?
