I’m laughing at Bennett College president Dr. Julianne Malveaux being “heartbroken” that Barack Obama didn’t mention Martin Luther King or poverty in his DNC speech last night. Doesn’t she know that Barack isn’t running for president as a black man?

Everybody got something different to say.
We are all entitled to think the way we want to think.
I may not agree with you and you may not agree with me.
I didnt even see the Barack make the speech, but this just justify what I said earlier on another post, some black people think he is running for black people of america!!
I’m so tired of this black and whit eish til it’s making me sick. Both form Blacks and Whites. How do we expect this man to be elected if his will be running a “Black Campaing” that is not what he stands for. He stands for all Americans. Do we really think that he would be elected if he wwasn’t for the whit erace also. Them white folks aint having that. If I were him I would be running an All American campaign to he NEEDS the white vote.
Now let me watch the vid.

Who is Tavis anyway ?? He dosen’t speak for me !!!
Next !
Lots of typos
sorry
i knew this was going to happen…..Obama is running as president of the United States which includes governing over all races, but the majority of black people see him as a “black leader” who will be working just to solve their concerns….sorry it doesn’t work that why.
If Obama becomes Pres. it won’t be because black people voted for him….real talk….
These people are freaking killing me. Leave the man alone. He’s not running as a black president for civil rights issues, bring justice to the Jena 6, bring Justice to Sean Bell, Police Brutality on Blacks, or any other black social issues you guys are trying to hold him accountable for. What a wonderful coincidence that his speech fell on MLK memorable I have a dream speech or that he’s the first black to ever hold such a position but people, let him just run for President of the United States and not President for the black people.
SANDRA SURE KNOWS HOW TO STIR THINGS UP…
TALK ABOUT POLITICS AND RELIGION AND THERE YOU GO…..
OBAMA 08
TAVIS NEED TO GO SIT DOWN…DIDN’T HE GET FIRED FROM BET?
Don’t nobody care about what he got to say! He need to worry about that damn public access TV SHOW’s ratings! He is gonna ruin whatever popularity he had doing this. He is just screaming for attention! BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
like wendy williams says…..I CAN’T, I CAN’T!!!
I be glad when November rolls up so everybody can shut the eff up.I think I’m better off not looking at anything until then because they act like he’s not man. He’s a man that happens to be black.Overall what I’m trying to say is that he is man regardless of his color.Tavis talks a lot of shit, even Tavis admitted that Obama has done a lot for him the past and this negro still hating?I call it ungratefulness.
Well, I watched Obama speech and I thought I heard him mention 45 yr of a message given regarding to MLK and if he dont talk about poverty so what. Obama is for a change and he have my vote.
I watched the entire speech last night. I must say, while the speech encompassed nearly everything I wanted him to touch bases on, I did feel a bit jaded when he reduced Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to simply a preacher from Georgia. I’m 28 years old. To date, I have not witnessed a more historical moment for Blacks. I wont go as far as to say I’m heartbroken, but more could have been said about the plight of our ancestors in honor of them.
Umm, I don’t know what they saw last night. But Barack did speak on poverty and people losing their jobs to people overseas.
Sandra I TOTALLY agree! I have said many times before, and I will say it again…..Barack is running for presidency of the United States of America, NOT presidency of black people. Black people need to realize he has to appeal to EVERYONE and NOT just their @$$. SMH.
By the way, he DID mention Martin Luther King Jr. he just didn’t say his name….guess they weren’t watching the same speech I was.
BENNETT COLLEGE FOR WOMEN!
That’s my alma mater! Julianne Malveux is pro black! So of course she is gonna say that! But Barack is a President for ALLL PEOPLE!
@ mizzdallas OMG i just read your post….great minds think alike.
YOU CAN’T AND WILL NEVER PLEASE (EVERYBODY)!
I think her purposely did not say the name “Martin Luther King Jr” in his speach because 1. it was expected…because he is black 2. because some of us black folks think heonly will deal with black folks issues 3; because he is black. Wake the F up and look at the bigger picture. We are a smal percentage of the population, and Obama needs EVERY vote!!!!!
No one can second guess the greatness of MLK. That’s a give. However, MLK was a religious figure who fought for civil rights. He didn’t run for president. Those are two different jobs. If MLK ran for president in his time or in present day- he would not win. Period.
HE’S BLACK! OKAY! We all get that! But let’s not expect Obama to go up and sing the tune of the old Negro spiritual! It’s just not that deep! He can’t alienate himself from every other race.
So you can’t compare what he said to what Hillary and Bill said. How gives a f*ck about what they said? THEY aren’t running for president any more!
Running a presidential campaign is some tricky sh*t! I think some people fail to realize that! You have to calculate every single word and every single move you make!
Just look at Howard Dean- Hell, I was all amped up in him becoming the presidential nominee. Then what happened? He said, “Yeeeee!” at a rally and there went his chances out the window!
He mentioned yesterday being the 45th anniversary of MLK jr’s I have a dream speech- wasn’t that symbolic enough??
people you would be surprised at the number of uncle toms and ainties who are hating on Obamas speech. don’t these educated never ran for public office media whores understand that that he wasn’t at the convention of the NAACP ? he wasn’t speaking to an all black audience and his speech has to be inclusive to all.
it sadden me to see so called educated black people acting like those crabs in a barrel. you are jealous and you shouldn’t be, you should be proud, damn proud, he hit a home run, he made me proud, proud to be a black men and ease the pain of the black experience.
he is the dream that every mother, father sister brother who worked long hours in factories on farms to actually see a dreamed fulfilled ? and you got to do is hate on him ? sad, sad and they should be ashamed. 45 yr after the march on Washington and this is all you so called educated Negros got to say ? i fill sorry for them and they need to ostersized and sent over to the republican party……
Tavis Smiley sold out a long time ago. That’s why he left the Tom Joyner show. I think he’s a down low republican, and a self-hating negro, if you ask me. His arrogance is through the roof. FOr some reason, he seems to think he can dress his ass into public praise (and Steve Harvey too), BUT NOPE! I believe, secretly, he’s jealous of Obama, and I’m almost convinced he thinks it should have been him, instead of Obama running for the seat.
Can we celebrate the fact that even though it’s been attempted several time, HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE!
WOW! I guess Obama can’t do nothing right. I am soooooo tried of hearing all this negative stuff about this man.
Will these fools please shut the f*ck up! I am so tired of these negros that don’t do nothing but sit around and do interviews to bash this man. Do Cornell even teach, I don’t know any other college professor that has as much time off as he does. So what if he did not say MLK Jr. name, everybody knew who he was talking about. These same ones though will want an invite to the White House when he wins.
Also half of the black population don’t vote or can not vote because of their criminal record, plus we are not the majority so why would he just talk about black issues all the time, his mother who raised him is white, the black father walked out on him.
trina@atl***** Im down with you soooooo true
OH MY DID ANYONE REALLY LISTEN TO THE ENTIRE SPEACH!! HE DID MENTION BOTH, MARTIN LUTHER KING AS WELL AS POVERTY!!! OH MY… WAS ANYONE REALLY LISTENING TO HIM??
Unique26 Says:

I swear I was thinking the same thing. I’m like was I the only one who heard him mention Martin Luther King
He mentioned it .. but these old head want a uncle tom steph n fetchit negro in the white house..
Educated black’s have ALWAYS been ostrasized for not “talking black” .. “trying to be white” .. and it’s the I’m sittin on 24’s in a 76’impala with no A/C living in the project negroes who complain the most.
Hell I LIVED in the PJ’S in NJ for 3 years of my life.. got OUT and never looked back …. tell me i’m trying to be white .. and I’ll say THANK you …
this is the New milleneum .. and Gat Dang it It’s Time for CHANGE .. not sit at home and complain about things .. join something larger than yourself and CHANGE !!
Who the hell is this woman? Why does she and her other Uncle Tom siblings thinking that Obama is supposed to address every “black” issue?
If you listened to the entire speech, Obama mentioned both poverty and MLK. He talked about how the entire COUNTRY is going through hard economic times and how poverty is something he wants to work on.
I am soo tired of this mess and BEEN tired of Tavis Smiley. He has been mad ot Obama ever since Obama did not appear at his Black State of the Union Meeting MONTHS ago because he was still campaining.
Crabs in a f’en barrel, I tell you!
Tavis has been hating on Barack since he begin his campaign. To think, Obama even came on his not so popular television show. You just can’t please everybody. Thank God that HE judges us and no one else can.
trina@atl…
you hit the nail on the head!!! preach sister!
After reading thru some of these posts, im just convince that some of us, just like to complain, and biatch about something. for real. If there’s nothing to complain about, what do we do…..
I’m sooo tired of it!!!!
And I agree with HUN-E as well.
boo nigga boo!! tavis smiley makes my @$$ ache!
@ kymystry…**fist bump**
@ speakmymind *fist bump*
lol @ Kym – Love what you said.
Now I see why Barack has gotten further than most black people. After watching this video, I’m pretty shocked that such educated black men (and woman) don’t know how to play the game to win. I am baffled. Obama was black ENOUGH last night. Had he been any Blacker he wouldn’t get the white vote. He needs the white vote.
Let’s let him get into office before we start labeling him so unblack. SMH
You listen to so many of these people and their talking points and it is obvious that they do not listen and have no intention to ever doing so. In a It is obvious Tavis did not listen to this speech and has made no effort to pay attention to any of the speeches/audience question/answers leading up to last night. The issues have been addressed and anyone who truly cares for the facts just have to pay attention.
people have a right to their opinions…and that’s all it is opinion’s.
**What I think alot of people is not getting is that what affects BLACK PEOPLE dont just affect BLACK PEOPLE!!!!!**
Black people are not the only people who are broke, losing their homes, losing their jobs, crying at the gas pump, have poor education system, under-paid at work, or losing a loved one in Iraq.
PLEASE, STOP EXPECTING THE MAN TO SPEAK SPECIFICALLY TO BLACK PEOPLE!!!! Tell me how would he win if he were to say “I’m going to do this, this, and that for black people.” No one wants to vote for someone if they feel totally disregared.
He did mention it, just not using MLK’s name. Towards the end of the speech, Obama made mention to the history being made “45 years later”. She shouldn’t complain about the speech. Instead of listening for what she wanted to hear, she should learn to infer; you know, read between the lines.
Besides, had he flat out used that as an extended topic in his speech, the Mccain bunch would’ve said he was attempting to sway voters utilizing guilt trips, emotional vulnerability, and strategy rather than sincerity.
Bottom line, campaigning is a game (don’t get me wrong, life isn’t a game but…). The ultimate goal is to utilize “game”, tactics, and strategy to convince voters to vote for you rather than your opponent.

***********************************************
I couldn’t have said it better myself!!!!! Lord, I’m sick of these nigga’s for real! Let the man live…! My goodness we are in the 21st century, must EVERY SINGLE BLACK PERSON IN A POSITION OF POWER reference Dr. King or any other civil rights leader for everything! I can’t wait for November to get here so this foolishness can be over!
Tavis Smiley is a hater. He is a leading black (not black leader) who is so damn afraid that an Obama administration will minimize his own relevance in the black community. He will have less push to bitch and moan about what is wrong with us and how oppressed we are. He needs to get a life and stop hating. This is not 1955. he is and has been irrelevant for a long time. Will somebody PLEEEASE send his miserable ass a memo?
WTF? I just watched it. I wasn’t going to. That lady in that sash is a bitter Hillary Clinton supporter (true story) and Dr. West (dressed like Fredrick Douglas all the damn time) are too smart for their own damn goods. They say stuff that makes no sense at all and the general black population (who are the ONLY people in the world who sit still long enough to listen to them) are supposed to just accept whatever they say as being “deep” because they are supposed to be so damn smart. Well, I have 3 degrees and I am here to tell you that more than half the time, they don’t make any sense and use fancy words all out of context. WTF has Jesse Jackson “passed down” to Barack? Last time I checked, he was wanting to cut his nuts off because Barack is way past his level. MLK would have been proud of Barack last night and all 38 million + viewers of the speech knew exactly what “young preacher from Georgia” Obama was referring to. Get on his level and stop hating!
I believe, secretly, he’s jealous of Obama, and I’m almost convinced he thinks it should have been him, instead of Obama running for the seat.
I completly agree with you ReadTheBlog. Tavis just wish it were him. How can you be so bitter against something you fight so hard for? Last night was not his speech to uplift and help black people, as much as would we love him too. I loved his speech and it was moving. I hate to see black people hate on this man.
What is up with Tavis? Is he gay? Just curious.. He is such a hater. Not that haters are gay.. But something is strange about him.
“like wendy williams says…..I CAN’T, I CAN’T!!!”
LOL.. love Wendy. I swear I say that all the time didn’t even realize i got that from her.
@ topic I guess he should’ve had on baggy jeans, a forty, and a bucket of fried chicken with him.
Get real. He is speaking for AMERICA not BLACK AMERICA. We are all in the struggle right now. When you go to the gas pump it doesn’t say 3.89 Whites 5.99 Blacks. That ish just say Cash or Credit.
It’s just like Black America See a person of color doing what we wanted them to do. To achieve what we thought would not ever happen in our lifetime. just to tear him down by any means necessary. Barack is for the people of all races. It would be typical of him to address he would do for the black community. Leave the man alone let him do his thing for america.
These 2 make me LAUGH! They are not running for President, Barack Obama is.
This historical election is like learning to drive a car.
You OBEY/FOLLOW the rules, after you pass and get your lisense, THEN you can break the rules.
And to even mention Jesse Jackon (that nut cutter) in this interview is a disgrace.
I believe Tavis Smiley is one of those crabs in the barrel, you know the main one trying to hold some one back. He has been trying to show up Obama every since he turned down the invitation to his show. I haven’t him, Dr. Cornel West or Dr. Julianne Malveaux try to accomplish what Obama has done. They are all very well educated, ijust don’t understand their issue with him
