From KPTH FOX44 News:
A bogus e-mail about a number of well-known businesses closing is landing in inboxes all over the city. Reporter Samantha Suttle clears up the confusion.
On Wednesday, I called more than a dozen local stores and they all had the same response: “Where is this coming from?”
The e-mails in question alert shoppers of businesses that are closing or are scheduled to close. The e-mail suggests you not use credit cards at the listed stores or buy gift cards there either. It claims the gift cards will not be honored after the holidays. However, many of the managers at these Sioux City stores say this information is simply not true and is damaging to business. Some of the stores listed include Eddie Bauer, Talbots, J. Jill, Sprint/Nextel, Home Depot and JCPenney.
The Talbot and J. Jill companies have even issued a statement: “We do not plan to close all Talbots and J. Jill brand stores and there is absolutely no concern in buying a gift card from either brand this holiday season… Talbots and J. Jill remain open in Sioux City at Lakeport Commons.”
So the best advice I came across — don’t believe everything you read. Source

Lol ! I just got this email at work today about 30 minutes ago too !
I just got this email too – it seemed logical to me. And what manager is gonna say “yeah it’s true” as if the manager would have that information…anyway happy holidays?
Sandra, I think your right ….the Linen and Things near me is having a blowout going out of business sale, then I read they are shutting down all their stores…so this may not be a stretch from the truth
I got this email probably about a week ago. While I also knew that most of the stores named weren’t going out of business (because I work for a commercial retail developer) I still wouldn’t recommend anyone buying gift cards for Christmas. The way things are changing so fast in this economy a gift card that may be good on Friday may not be honored on Wednesday.
wait…ok I did not read this properly…so I dont know what sandra is trying to say here…but basically what I mean to say is that I believe some of these stores are closing down some if not all their operations…..I COULD BE WRONG
I got that email
I got the e-mail and sent this link to the person who sent it to me.
you can check out this list from aol for what is probably a more accurate picture of the store closings occurring or that will occur in 2008/2009

LOL … didn’t get the email, and don’t purchase gift cards by choice anyway ( I think they are rather impersonal).
Which one of ya’ll just sent a text to Wendy Williams telling her to look here for clarification on this story
i got this email…i briefly read it and figured i shouldn’t buy gift cards from anywhere anytime soon…
In this climate gift cards are a bad idea because store have the right to refuse them. Read the fine print.
