AHH: Jermaine is Fired From Def Jam For Real This time

You know how these industry rumors go: AllHipHop.com has learned exclusively that Atlanta-based producer Jermaine Dupri’s tenure as President of Island Records Urban Music has come to an end.

Is this really news? What exactly did JD do as president of Def Jam? Why do major labels insist upon giving top tier positions to unqualified people who don’t even hold a high school diploma much less a business degree? I’m not saying JD personally because he has more than proven his ability to run a record company.

But the industry is being run into the ground by unqualified people who haven’t a clue what they are doing.

It seems Def Jam has a history of creating fictional jobs and parceling them out to their homies. ~~Similar to what Barack Obama is doing with those cabinet positions in the White House.~~ Anyway, a formal announcement is expected soon although I could have sworn JD was terminated from this very same job a few months back.

I totally agree with you here! My son is 21 years old and majoring in mechanical engineering and trying to convince him he needs to stay focused and keep moving forward is hard when he sees these industry folks that can barely string two sentences together getting paid!! It just makes it tough sometimes to keep your kid on the straight and narrow!

I often wondered how being able to lay down some “dope beats” on a record translated to being able to navigate a multi-billion dollar business thorough the treachrous waters that have been the landscape of the music business since the dawn of the digital age…I mean…hip hop stars/producers don’t have the EXPERIENCE to run a business…

I mean…it’s like when President Bush made Michael D. Brown
the head of FEMA…a man who had NO EXPERIENCE in running such a vital governmental agency that was responsible for the lives of every American living in ths country during a tragedy…I mean, Michael D. Brown has a HISTORY of being a piss poor…EVERYTHING…student, lawyer, etc., etc…

Yet…he ran FEMA during the Katrina tragedy…

How did that work out for everybody Auntie? (though I know by your writings you were and are down with the way Bush and Brownie handled that situation)…

No prequalifications necessary. It’s not what you know but who you think you know. He sure ran Janet’s career down the drain. I think I heard she was getting back with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, I sure hope it’s true.
