AP: Senate Caves, Burris Will Fill Obama’s Empty Seat

Welp, Obama can’t win them all.

According to the AP, the Senate has caved and Roland Burris will be seated as the Illinois Senator.

In a shocking show of racist bigotry, the Senate Majority Leader, Harry M. Reid, stood in the Senate house doors and blocked Burris’ entry yesterday.

Burris was tapped by Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich to fill the seat left vacant by former Illinois Jr. senator Barack Obama — who wanted one of his cronies to fill the seat.

As fate would have it, Blagojevich was arrested for negotiating with Obama’s team to fill the seat — and Blago retaliated by naming Burris.

Never mind that Reid’s contentious move to block Burris was racist — it was also against the law.

Even though Blago is the subject of impeachment proceedings, he hasn’t been impeached yet.

He is still the governor of Illinois and by law he can still name a new senator.

I have to agree. I had this same argument with my mother last night. Since the powers that be didn’t see fit to remove Blagojevich, he still has to do the job he was put in office to preform. But you gotta admit, it certainly was gangsta of him to appoint someone after they urged him not to and a black man at that. That is one for the books. All I can say is CHECKMATE!!!!!!

Burris wasn’t seated as Senator because the Govenor who appointed him tried to sell the seat.. It would be the same result as anyone else the Governor tried to appoint.

This has nothing to do with the fact that he’s black, shit we have a black president!

I’m tired of blacks pulling the race card like we are being held back because of our race.. It’s 2009 PEOPLE!

I agree, it’s still a lot of racism out there but sometimes we be doing waaaay too much.

Also, let it be known that everyone has spoken very highly of Burris. It’s not about him, it’s not about his race, it’s about who appointed him that messed him up…

If someone tries to sell a seat, then appoints someone to the seat they just tried to sell, that’s very suspect.

He’s a respectable man in the political world, so in that I’m glad he’s being seated but I understand the other side too.

That is a lie along with much of the rest of your commentary. Blago was arrested for trying to SELL the seat to the highest bidder. He was not “negotiating” with Obama’s team. Stop hating.

Actually they constitutionally can’t block him from the Senate seat. Long as Blago is the standing Governor,as of now he hasn’t been charged with anything, and Burris has met the constitutional requirements of a Senator. They can’t do anything. The fact is nobody wants to end up in court with a proposed black senator with terms like violation of constitutional and civil rights coming up. For the record, Blago didn’t negotiate with Rahm Emmanuel, who is on Barack’s team,they were talking about considerations for the senate chair that they would like to see vetted for the senate position and that’s not illegal. Facts, Sandra. Just the facts,baby.

As for Burris, it’s too bad for him. Being appointed by Blago will pretty much insure he doesn’t win re-election in two years which means the Dems will likely lose the seat to a Republican. That is what this was all about.

Yea, well, unfortunately in their zeal to protect Obama and Rham, they arrested Blago before he actually sold the seat. Therefore, no laws were broken. Which is why Blago is getting the last laugh.

Not necessarily. If Burris performs well as Senator for the next two years, who’s going to remember or care that Blago appointed him? Especially if Blago is not impeached.

I can assure you, just like four govenors before him from IL, his a$$ will be sitting in the Fed Pen within the next five years…because the Fed has got stuff on him from DAY ONE!!! That’s how we do it here in the Chi…we don’t get you right away…we let you go for YEARS digging your dirt…AND THEN WE POP YOU!!!

The only thing Fitzgerald did was make sure that Blago didn’t get any extra “money for Christmas”…when he busted him out about the senate fiasco…

Now…let’s be Machi about this…

Of course Obama knew about Blago’s corruption, which is why he pushed that ethics bill through in IL…and I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t Obama’s team that cued Fitzgerald about the “pay for play”…because the Fed’s didn’t tap Blago’s house until THAT came into effect until around the election…

So, what if this has played out the way that Obama wanted it to anyway…Burris is a good “Dem” in IL, which means hecan raise beaucoup bucks for the party…he’ll sit pretty, and add to his already large state pension for the two years he’s senator…and in 2010…Obama can run Jarrett or whomever else he wants to run…and I can assure you…the Obama machine is gonna be ALL OVER that race when it comes down to it…because he’s not gonna want another Repub. in the senate getting all up in his face…

And being from Obama’s district in Chicago…WE DON’T WANT ANOTHER REPUB EITHER!!!

Anyway it goes…it’s a win/win situation…

Burris will pay for it one way or another. he’ll only be there one term or however long u can before the folks of illinoischoose their senator…..

Maybe its time they amend this rule that the gov choose the senator. I don’t know why its such a big deal in letting the people decide who represents them.
