Great points of view by sports journalist Stephen A. Smith, who says he’s extremely uncomfortable with Barack Obama’s attempts to take over the auto, banking and now health care industry.
Smith says those Kool Aid drinkers who are comfortable with Obama’s policies must be ignorant to the issues. I totally agree with Mr. Smith, who admits he voted for Obama from a historical perspective (read: because he was black).
But Smith says he comes to regret his decision because of Obama’s radical attempts to take over health care and other big industry.
“People may have advocated… government intervention in terms of supervising things and making sure that we all are operating under a fair and equitable system. But I don’t recall anybody, and I do mean anybody, that has ever walked into the black community and advocated a government takeover of anything!
We may all need assistance, but a takeover is an entirely different situation altogether, and I’m extremely uncomfortable with it and I’m even more uncomfortable with the fact that race has become a part of the discussion.”
Smith goes on to say that acting as if race is as prevalent as it was decades ago is completely untrue and that way of thinking only serves to divide this nation.
In the past week, I’ve received emails from readers who insist that Obama’s dismal approval numbers (39%) is due to racism. But the reality is that Obama received 69% of the popular vote (meaning, white vote).
It’s amazing that the same people who celebrated the fact that a majority of whites voted for Obama, are now calling those same whites racists because they woke up and now realize that Obama is not the man they thought they were voting for.
Kudos to Stephen A. Smith for being courageous enough to speak his mind on that fraud in the White House!
Stephon A. always speaks his mind and I also think you put words in his mouth as well. He attended the same college as I THE WINSTON SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY
I am watching MY President on Letterman from last night as I type!
Oh and as far as the race thing goes I dont think black folks were showing up to rallies with signs with racial slurs and those people DID NOT vote for him in the 1st place and you know it. Black folks were not shouting down people at town hall meetings. I do not think ALL the people at the rallies or those that oppose the Pres on healthcare are racist but you best believe SOME of them are and they make no bones about it. That is all
@ Daisy, I want to watch the vid of the President on Letterman when I get home. I forget to watch Dave, it’s not like I am sleeping. As for Stephen A. Smith. Ha Ha! I guess we have to be glad that he can’t get his vote back, J/K.
So does that mean he wanted to vote for McCain instead
It means he should have looked at the big picture rather than race when he voted in 2008.
Anyways…….seems to me he should of looked deeper into obama’s qualifications
@Candycane: Good point. We are always voting for the lesser of two evils. Stephen A says he voted from a “historical perspective” because he likes using phrases like “voted from a historical perspective”. He, like most of America, wouldn’tve voted for Al Sharpton or Alan Keyes. Obama won because most of America didn’t see change in a 70+ year old man worth 100 million dollars and, uh, Sarah Palin.
Greg are you new? I agree most ppl vote for the lesser of the 2 evils I know I do and will continue to. None of them are perfect and will do everything they want to do.
Greg, I agree with your post 100%.

Did he vote for Jesse too? Many Blacks didn’t. It amazes me when people still use the “you voted for him because he was Black” catchphrase when people were on t.v on CNN, MSN, Faux, and everywhere else with yt people on there saying they would vote for McCain EVEN THOUGH THEY DIDN’T WANT TO just because they couldn’t/would’ve vote for a BLACK MAN. It goes both ways, were just the ones used.
It’s funny how those polls always point out the Black vote and how the media ASSumes that every Black will automatically vote for the Black candidate. People who do that are doing themselves a big disservice
So Stephen A. Smith, you voted for Obama because he was Black and not because you thought he’d make a better President than John McCain? That’s why I voted for him. I’m sure that’s how he got many of his votes.
The one time in Stephen A. Smith’s life I didn’t wish he’d just STFU.
Obama, stop the sensationalism and attn whoring and get down to heart wrenching, not breaking, business.
Man I HATE TO DO THIS BUT:
All these people talking about government taking over are INSANE…like the old lady saying i dont want govt taking over healthcare WTF lady u on MEDICARE! So whats left RACE!!!!!! EVERY OLD IDIOT AT THE TOWN HALLS BEEN SAYING THE SAME THING…AND THEY ALL ON MEDICARE…HOW DUMB..and for everyone else…guess what…public schools, city clinics, health dept, water dept, library, rec centers, ARE ALL RUN BY GOVERNMENT! Has everyone forgotten?????? So if you call that socialism is sure wasnt started by PRESIDENT OBAMA…WE NEED HEALTHCARE FOR ALL AMERICANS…MEDICARE OR MEDICAID FOR ALL I DONT CARE WHICH ONE….so IMO anyone over 60 & WHITE out there screaming about govt taking over healthcare is a complete RACIST! The arguement is not valid being that they old asses already on MEDICARE and recieving social security…. AND IF DUDE IS A SPORTS reporter he need to stick to his day JOB..thats like asking Beyonce for advice on world peace..celebs are not go to people for the educated…there go to people for the simple minded..I dont like all the decisions PRESIDENT OBAMA HAS MADE BUT HE STILL THE PRESIDENT…THEY DONT EVEN ADDRESS HIM AS SUCH…WHICH FURTHER PROVES MY POINT…PRESIDENT BUSH WAS A LIAR A CHEAT..THEY STILL CALLED HIM PRESIDENT…just calling it like I see it…life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, and the ability to go to the doctor when I AM SICK!
Now back to my real job as the resident conspiracy theorist
@flyqtnva
Thanks for making my day. While I don’t agree with everything you wrote, you didn’t lie. ROFL.
BTW, when Bill Clinton was president my daughter was in a private christian (small cap) elementary school. The school never took down the picture of the first George Bush and prayed everyday for the Lord to save them from Satan (Clinton).
@SunnyPA
lol thats funny…I wonder what the school is doing now??
@SunnyPA

It took Bush 8 LONG years to get us in this mess and now everyone wants President Obama to work a miracle in 9 months. GIVE ME A BREAK better yet give him a break..
lol @ fly!
Dang fly I wish I knew somebody to get ur story out, this is da kind of shish I’m talking bout. Aetna is da worse ins in da world. they deny everything as cosmetic then they pay doctors to side wit them to get ur clms denied. I agree wit u 100% mcare and mcaid r government run ins and majority of da world is on it(while it last anyway) so WTF!!! Oh and by da way Stephen A Smith, have u found a job yet cuz ESPN got tired of ur azz talking shish u don’t know and wouldn’t even renew is contract.
Damn, Fly, I’m sorry to read that. Please, please get well. I’ve experience first hand the cosmetic dilemma(sp). I had a botched boob job that my insurance paid for. But, they would pay for the second surgery that was medically needed to fix the first surgery (open wounds, painful, wouldn’t heal) … they said it was cosmetic and denied. It took me two years to get it done.
I know people have problems with their insurance but I’m not for the public health care. I’m afraid that the health care will be worse. You can’t force a doctor to do something they don’t want.
For example, there are dealerships still waiting to get payment from the cash for clunkers program. Some dealerships didn’t participate because they feared the slow payment. Can you imagine what kind of treatment you’d get from a doctor still waiting for other payments.
My insurance (UPMC) cancelled my daughter immediately after her cancer diagnosis. I pitched a fit and got her reinstated through my employer. Then, I got them to pay for a lace front wig that was $900 (I wear it now).
Keep trying to get the surgery. If you haven’t already, get a second opinion and submit that.
oops … wouldn’t pay
@luvly STEPHON A SMITH IS THE BOMB! He does know what he is talking about when it comes to sports he kept it REAL and I loved him for that he is very entertaining. Last time he filled in for Steve Harvey he said he had deals on the table for his own show again. I wish him well! As far as the clip as I said earlier SR put some words in his mouth IMO.
WSSU STAND UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me clarify…
my daughter wore the lace front wig when she was bald and on chemo … now that she’s in remission and her hair grew back, I wear it.
@SunnyPA
No I’m not gonna give up…i dont wanna be this small AT ALL…I WANNA GET IT OVER WITH SO i CAN GET BACK TO MY REGULAR WEIGHT… i cant take all these SKINNY GIRL COMMENTS I BEEN GETTING LATELY….
I just feel like healthcare should not be for profit..that’s why they can pick and choose who to deny…my sister does medical billing 10 years for same doctor and as long as the coding is right medicaid and medicare pay faster than regular insurance companies…she says medicaid and medicare are her bosses best payers…..but we will agree to disagree…HOW IS YOUR DAUGHTER?
OH OKAY THATS A BLESSING
@Fly I worked for both Cigna and BCBS so I know the deal with ins coding and how they pay and DENY claims. Very sad. I have always said I may not like everything about Healthcare reform but I do think changes need to be made within the system.

That’s the first time I’ve heard anyone say that. Thanks for sharing.
I concur 100% with Stephen A. Smith. I am sure Michelle Obama agrees with him too.
Most should be honest and say they voted for Obama because he is black, young, hip, and up to date. Honestly, we are not paying attention to the laws that are being passed or anything else because most are blinded by the fact we have a black President. The thing about black people are we stick together in certain instances, this is one of them because we feel like we stuck it to the man…
People are so narrow minded…do they REALLY think the government’s agenda would be any different had McCain won? They have an agenda to fulfill no matter WHO is playing the “face” of America and I can tell you this it prob. would have been a LOT easier for a white man to get away with a lot of stuff that Obama is trying to do as a Bi-Racial man. Do they REALLY know what he meant by “change”? EVERYTHING happens for a reason…nothing is coincidental in the government.
