Until this morning I had no clue who or what a Maluca was (she’s cute though). Last night, after the overhyped Lady GaGa/Beyonce “Telephone” video premiered all over the planet, singer Maluca set off a firestorm of tweets by accusing GaGa of ripping off her soda can rollers hairstyle.
Just because we’ve never heard of Maluca doesn’t mean she isn’t influential. But I think Mali’s criticism might be misdirected. Let’s not forget that Beyonce is in the “Telephone” video too. And who has ripped off more artist’s creative ideas than anyone else in music history?
Below are just a few of the hundreds of tweets that followed Maluca’s response to “Telephone.”

NEFFE AND SOULLOW IS ON V-103 RITE NOW!!!!
When it comes to music & video thievery Gaga chose the right heffa to ride shot gun. smdh @ this foolishness
And who is this chick?
I agree w/ Jazi…pure foolisheness because Ashanti rocked that in her Good Good video…
@ Yvonne – She’s a nobody, trying to make herself relevant..
Truth is, she wasnt the FIRST one use soda cans and wont be the last
No idea or look is original. People kill me with this “swagger-jacking” nonsense.
LOVED IT STOP THE HATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTE SANDY
REALLY???
Did Maluca take a Dumb 101 course? She didn’t even invent this hairstyle and Gaga is sporting it in a video not for life! Get a life…
I don’t like the video. It was blah. Anyways this Maluca chick, who cares. She’s not the first 1 to do it and if she were, we wouldn’t know. I remember seeing Ashanti with the soda cans in her good good video if I’m not mistaking.
So did she jack the style from Ashanti or did she do it before the Good Good video? Soda cans were used as rollers back in the 50s so she needs a can of #sityaassdown hater.
LOL @ Shauny. True she does
Uhhhgggg who cares if she had cans in her hair? That was not the problem with the video, it was garbage with the cans and would be garbage without them.
side note: before anyone gives beyonce anymore (I repeat) anymore acting scenes maker sure she can f*cking act!
There is nothing new under the sun
@Yadda Yadda
I didnt like the video or the song
Song was WACK, video was WACK. I don’t get the fascination with gaga am I missing something?

That video was a hot ass mess…just all over the place. SMH
GREAT YOU DID IT FIRST-GIVE YOURSELF A PAT ON THE BACK AND STFU!
THE IMAGERY AND THE FASHION WAS NICE-THE OVERALL CONCEPT OF THE VIDEO WAS TOO FAR OUT FOR ME THOUGH
BUT DEFINITELY DIFFERENT-BEIGE FOLKS WILL BE ALL OVER THIS
MURDER, DIKING, PRISON-TOO MUCH FOR ME
what the heck is “swagger jacking” I mean people swear that if they do something noone else in the world ever can.. Damn did she invent the soda cans? she must have gotten the idea from somewhere else to . Well I guess I “swagger jack” everyday then, because I love to get inspiration from different people, looks, make-up etc and I try them out all the time.Oh I guess my sister “swagger jacked ” Tiny, cause she just dyed her hair the same color of Tiny’s the other day. Oh and she has the same cute as Tiny too, long with a chinese bang. *kanye shrug*
Sandra we knew you wouldn’t like the video, because Monica, Tiny, or Rhianna didn’t do it.
I think J-Lo had soda can rollers in one of her videos awhile back. I saw the vid with GaGa and Beyonce and it did nothing for me…I really wish Beyonce would go to Toastmasters. With that and some acting classes she might really be able to buy *ahem* I mean win that Oscar.
not Toastmasters!
i like the vid #dontjudge me
it was colorful creative confusing and fun, 100x better than vid phone
I liked the video because it was different and weird and confusing…and because lately Gaga has cast a spell upon me and I am intrigued by her now!
I have watched it online and also on tv – each time i see something different. who wears glasses made out of lit and smoking cigarettes.
it was thelma & louise mixed with quenton tarantino (sp) and sprinkled with a bunch of product placements!
I hate to say it but I could have sworn Ashanti did this whole soda can rollers shyt first on her “Good, Good” video??

That’s where I saw it first, ppl always trying to claim something.
I think the soda can rollers are so cute, but there’s no way to telling who did it first. If you google it, plenty images will pop up so…yeah. But I liked the video.
lets’ see-i like maluca and all (well i only like el tigeraso) but ashanti did it before and ashley olsen did it before ashanti back in ’07 (for a magazine spread) and who know who did it before then
OMFG I know this has been said already but it really pisses me off that Sandra didn’t bother to mention the obvious: Ashanti did this before Gaga, not to mention the fact that this is something people have done for ages now.
Calling Gaga unoriginal is laughable.
I know Sandra hates Bey but that clouds her judgement a lot when it comes to journalistic integrity. There is no point posting this garbage and not mentioning Ashanti along with it. SMH.
WHO????
I’m sorry, this swagger-jacking thing is so overated! Ppl search and dig deep to find out where mainstream artists may have gotten their ideas from, but 9 times out of 10, it is their stylists, hairdressers, PR people or management who come up with these ideas. In Gaga’s case, I know she has a lot more control over her image (so she says) so fingers could be pointed there, but the in reality who cares??? Does this Maluka want a cautionary note played at the video’s beginning that some styles in this video may not be truly original?
The same goes to Kelis’ people who are trying to say stars like Gaga and Rihanna are swagga-jacking. You need more people AND we don’t care. Everyone inspires everyone else.
