So last night I watched Kanye West’s baffling 40-minute music video for his hit “Runaway” off his critically acclaimed album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
It took me this long to finally watch “Runaway” because I didn’t want to see Kanye putting all of his narcissism, paranoia’s and God complex issues on display.
It’s troubling that people consider Kanye’s mini-movie to be Epic, even as it reveals a man in obvious psychological pain.
One bright spot in the movie was the dining room scene, which alluded to Jesus’ Last Supper with Kanye occupying Jesus’ place at the table.
In the scene, a beautiful black man leans over to Kanye and says, “Your girlfriend is really beautiful… do you know she’s a bird?” I laughed out loud! That line was obviously intended as a jab at his ex-girlfriend/beard, Amber Rose.
According to the urban dictionary, ‘Bird’ stands for “An individual who is stupid, foolish, careless, idiotic, moronic, retarded, or just plain dumb.” That description seems to fit Amber Rose to a T.
Now that Kanye’s upcoming album MBDTF has leaked online, the reviews are coming fast & furious. Most tone-deaf Kanye West devotees are labeling the album a classic, or the best album of the year.
Popeater says Kanye’s “masterpiece” makes him invincible to criticism or controversy because calling him a nut from here on out would be redundant.
SPIN magazine calls Kanye a “princely narcissist among narcissists” and Rolling Stone said “being crazy is this guy’s job” but both give Kanye’s MBDTF high marks.
In my opinion, MBDTF is Kanye’s worst studio effort to date. Yeah, some of the tracks are tight, but the tortured lyrics and the moody movie are like a soundtrack set to a real life mental breakdown. It’s not pretty to watch or listen to.
