Embattled actor Jon Travolta released a statement today calling Bee Gees member Robin Gibb “a real friend.” The statement came one day after Gibb died of cancer at age 62.

Robin, along with brothers Barry and Maurice — wrote and performed the soundtrack for the 1977 disco classic “Saturday Night Fever” — the film that made John Travolta a superstar overnight.

Barry Gibb, 65, is the only surviving member of the Grammy-winning group the Bee Gees. Robin’s twin brother, Maurice died in Jan. 2003 from intestinal complications. The group’s youngest brother, Andy, 30, died of a drug-related heart infection in 1988.

Travolta told TMZ, “I thought Robin was one of the most wonderful people — gifted, generous, and a real friend to everyone he knew. And we’ll miss him.”

Travolta is facing numerous sexual misconduct allegations from two masseurs who are suing him in court for $2 million each.
