Just as important as who walked the red carpet at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards was what they wore. Leading fashion blogs Upscale Hype and Red Carpet Fashion Awards have all the deets on the fashion hits and misses at the Staples Center on Thursday!
My readers weren’t impressed with the fashion choices made by Wiz Khalifa or his pregnant fiancee, Amber Rose. Khalifa strolled the red carpet in a pair of Vintage Cartier Vitesse sunglasses and black Vivienne Westwood blazer ($1,415).
Rap artist Drake breathed a sigh of relief when he won the moon man statuette for Best Hip Hop Video after losing out on Best Male Video to Chris Brown. Drake wore a refreshingly masculine Alexander McQueen raven print merino wool v-neck sweater ($895), black pants, and black velvet tasseled loafers.
Singer Rihanna was gorgeous in a white Adam Selman custom-made dress with knotted details on the front, back and shoulder. She completed her look with Neil Lane jewels, Jacquie Aich rings, and nude Manolo Blahnik sandals.
British chanteuse Rita Ora wasn’t far behind Rihanna in the high fashion department when she presented Chris Brown his award wearing a Stéphane Rolland Fall 2012 Couture gown. The white crepe gown featured silicone white slices on the shoulders and a tan leather harness.
Songbird Alicia Keys was not nominated in any category at the VMAs, but she still showed up (and showed out) for her fans onstage. That’s the mark of a true artist. Keys looked casual in an Android Homme “King Tut” tank top, while chatting with rap artist Nicki Minaj in her dressing room.
Actress Zoe Saldana kept her look simple yet elegant in this Salvatore Ferragamo Resort 2013 dress. She paired the peach fringed dress with Ferragamo eggplant suede booties from the Fall 2012 collection.
Rapper 2 Chainz was nominated in 2 categories at the VMAs. His stylish thug appeal was on display in Versace from head-to-toe, wearing Versace vintage Medusa shades, Medusa belt, Spring/Summer 2012 Medusa Medallion bracelets, and Medusa Velvet Slippers (approx. $727). He was also rocking a Givenchy Brimless Leather Snapback cap ($775).
Singer Katy Perry wore an Elie Saab Fall 2004 gown from the designer’s archives, according to Red Carpet Fashion Awards blog.
