Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade is pictured getting fitted for his 2nd NBA championship ring. THe Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals earlier this year.
Wade, 30, won his 1st ring in 2006 with the Miami Heat — the team that made him the 5th overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft. But life wasn’t always easy for the point guard who saw his dreams come true despite an abusive childhood.
In his new book “A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball,” Wade recounts how he watched his mother inject herself with heroin when he was a boy.
“My mom didn’t know I had seen her shoot up,” he said.
Jolinda Wade, 57, eventually kicked her drug habit. She is a pastor in Chicago where she runs a church and community center that helps people in need.
“My precious boy saw me with the needle in my arm,” she told CNN.com. “There were a lot of things that we had not talked about that they had seen.”
