Star Wars director George Lucas is engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Mellody Hobson. A spokeswoman for Lucasfilm Ltd. confirmed the couple’s engagement after dating for 7 years. The 68-year-old director is best known for creating the wildly popular “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” movie franchises.
Hobson, a 43-year-old investment firm president, serves as chairman of DreamWorks Animation and is a financial contributor to ABC’s Good Morning America, ABC News reports.
Lucas has three children, and was previously married to film editor Marcia Lucas from 1969 to 1983.
Disney acquired Lucasfilm and the “Star Wars” franchise from Lucas in a blockbuster deal worth $4.06 billion in cash and stock last month. Lucas completed the deal just in time to save $4 million in taxes before the Bush era tax cuts expired on Dec. 31, 2012.
