Yesterday the Internet was abuzz with the news that Will Smith said his 14-year-old son Jaden asked for permission to be an emancipated minor.
Will made the statements in a recent interview in Tokyo. He said he approved Jaden’s request to be emancipated from his parents so he could move into his own house on 15th birthday in July.
But today, Jaden is laughing off the comments made by his father (who people sometimes forget is a comedian).
“See, here’s the thing that you need to understand: I’m not going anywhere,” said Jaden In a joint interview with his father on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ on Wednesday. The father-son acting duo appeared as guests on ‘Ellen’ to promote their movie ‘After Earth’.
Will also dismissed the comments, saying he was joking and his comments were taken out of context.
“I think I made a joke in Tokyo. I mean… my baby boy, he’s never leaving me, ever. No emancipation for the Smith kids.”
Jaden added: “The thing that people don’t get is everything at this house is free! So I can get anything and everything at his house, so I’m going to be there 20, 30 more years.”
Jaden continued: “He says as soon as I have a movie that’s bigger than one of his movies, I can get my own house.”
