An off-duty New Jersey cop is being held on $1 million bond after a road rage incident ended in the death of a 36-year-old man.

Police tell MYFoxNY.com that 40-year-old Joseph Walker shot and killed Joseph Harvey Jr., of Maryland, after an altercation on the shoulder of the interstate Saturday night. Walker’s wife and 3 young children — all under the age of 7 — were in his minivan at the time of the shooting.

Walker then allegedly exited his car, brandished his gun and announced he was a police officer. Harvey continued to approach Walker in a allegedly aggressive manner, and Walker fired at Harvey, fatally wounding him, MyFoxNY.com reports.

Troopers charged Walker on Sunday with second degree murder and manslaughter, and he remains in a Maryland jail on $1 million bond.
