NFL Star Adrian Peterson’s ‘Secret’ Son, 2, Dies; Mother’s Boyfriend Charged

The 2-year-old son of NFL star Adrian Peterson has died of massive head injuries suffered in a brutal attack by his mother’s live-in boyfriend.

According to Peterson’s father, the deceased boy was not Adrian Jr., who is pictured above with his father. Nelson Peterson confirmed the boy was Adrian Peterson’s secret Love child who was born out of wedlock. Adrian also has a daughter, Adeja.

The boy died Friday at a South Dakota hospital, where he was admitted to the PICU in critical condition.

According to USA Today, Peterson’s son was allegedly beaten by 27-year-old Joseph Patterson. Patterson is being held on $750,000 bond on charges of aggravated felony assault and battery of an infant. The prosecutor’s office is considering additional charges against Patterson.

Peterson, 28, is a running back for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings. In a press conference hours before the child died, Peterson said he planned to play in Sunday’s game against Carolina.

UK’s Daily Mail reports Joseph Patterson called 911 on Wednesday to report the child had choked on a piece of candy. But paramedics responding to the scene immediately realized the child’s injuries were not caused by choking.

The child was rushed to a hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., where doctors determined he had been brutally beaten.

Patterson has a prior domestic abuse record with a different woman and child, having pleaded guilty to simple assault in an incident last year involving an adult female and juvenile male.

Sioux Falls police said Patterson recently started a relationship with the mother of the 2-year-old victim. Patterson appeared in court Friday morning in Canton, S.D. His bond had been set at $750,000 in cash before the boy’s death.

The incident occurred in Patterson’s apartment, where the boy had recently moved with his mother. Patterson called 911 on Wednesday evening to report a choking at the Platinum Valley apartment, but Lt. Blaine Larsen of the Sioux Falls Police Department said it became clear at the hospital that the boy’s injuries were not accidental.

According to a reporter covering the story, the initial confusion surrounding the boy’s identity was due to the fact that not even Adrian Peterson is sure the child is his, though Peterson’s father later would later describe the boy as a grandson.

It was initially reported by TMZ this morning that Adrian Peterson Jr., Peterson’s oft-photographed son, was hospitalized in critical condition. City Pages disputed that account, citing a source claiming the boy was not Peterson’s. TMZ amended its account to say the boy was Peterson’s son, just not Adrian Peterson Jr. City Pages followed suit.

A reporter whose own outlet isn’t going with the story yet tells us this is a separate child, one not publicly known. The mother is a Sioux Falls woman who moved from the Twin Cities soon after the child was born, and believes the boy might be Peterson’s, though no paternity test was done. I agree. I dont think he’s at fault for this. We dont know the parameters of their relationship, but obviously they agreed to coparent with the mother having primary physical custody. With that said, she should have been more cognizant of the type of men she exposed her son/childer to.

If he showed signs of abusive tendencies, she should hv thrown him the dueces from the gate. If he was abusive and she continued to stay with him, then she’s as much to blame for her son’s injury just as much as the abuser.

That’s why I said, fathers please be active in your daughter’s lives and hug them and make sure they feel loved so they will have enough self- esteem to walk away from a bad situation instead of seeking love and approval from men b/c you didnt provide them with this as a kid. Sad all around. I pray that this baby makes it through.

All it took was for a MFer to try throwing a plate in my vicinity and I moved out so quick I’m sure he whiplash… in the middle of a winter storm mind you in burbs of Chicago. In Georgia, you get that child support money on a black Visa card that has a white flower on it. I remember I saw someone use it to pay their rent one time and it did not go thru. It’s like a prepaid type card where you can’t spend over the amount you have on it. That lady had me run that card for 800 some odd dollars and she wrote a check for the rest that bounced. I had to call that woman everyday for that NSF charge and the balance because we won’t evict you if your balance is under $150… And you know plenty of us have balances of $149.50
