A pregnant woman went into labor on a bus bench directly across the street from Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles today, LA affiliate NBC4 reports. The woman was prevented from crossing the street because it was closed to make way for President Obama's motorcade.
NBC4’s Robert Kovacik who shot the scene on his cell phone captioned the video: #Obama: "Woman in labor on bench as motorcade passes; not allowed to cross street to get to #CedarsSinai."
Kovacik asked an LAPD officer what was "going to happen with the pregnant lady across the street."
"As soon as we can, looks like the motorcade is coming through right about now," the sympathetic LAPD officer responded. "We’ll be able to open it up for traffic and first thing we’ll try to get to will be an ambulance, but I can’t guarantee it will be..." the officer said before the video ended.
The semi-retired president is in Los Angeles to hobnob with celebrities and the wealthy at 2 political fundraisers. His schedule includes a pit stop at the home of 'Scandal' television producer Shonda Rhimes.
Obama's motorcade triggered a blizzard of angry tweets on the social networking website Twitter.com.
"Ironically, Obama is going to @shondarhimes. This could be #GreysAnatomy - woman in labor can't get to Cedars cuz of O," pedestrian Cassie Gifford tweeted.
NBC Los Angeles noted that the woman eventually made it to the hospital to deliver her newborn.
Shame on Obama!
