Former rapper Cee Lo Green apologized profusely for Tweets he sent into the universe implying that an unconscious woman can’t be raped. The 39-year-old musician reacted angrily on social media after pleading guilty last week to spiking the drink of a well-known Atlanta groupie at a party on the west coast.
Green was charged with sexual battery in 2012 after the woman accused him of slipping ecstasy into her drink and having his way with her while she was unconscious.
“If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! So WITH implies consent,” Green wrote. “People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!”Cee-Lo tweeted earlier this week. He added: “People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!”
Green has since deleted the tweet, but the backlash continued on Twitter this morning.
Green’s TBS Network canceled Cee-Lo’s show The Good Life after a woman’s group circulated a petition calling for the cancellation.
Green reportedly reached an out-of-court settlement with the 33-year-old groupie.
Green is an original founding member of the rap group Goodie Mob.
