My grandfather owned the land that Philadelphia International Airport is sitting on right now. Built his own home (twice), was best friends with John B. Kelley (Grace Kelly’s daddy), had his own business and the only thing he had to buy from yt folk was sugar. They brought his land, paid him pennys but he continued to be a business owner till his death and raised 17 children and not nar one of them were servants or house cleaners or products of the prision system. I miss when we looked at yt folks like aliens, like why you ain’t got no color?

Its a lot of stories like that… My friends grandfather had the only black owned timber business in ARK in the 50s and 60s white folk had to come to him for timber to build their houses and businesses had to come to him for miles around…and they respected him and would tell him to come to their restaurant or shop in their store this in midst of jim crow when other black people could do no such thing…his error was in his mate who couldn’t see the benefit of having a family business.. She thought that if her kids got jobs in the white corporate world it would be more stable…so their kids all went to college all went to work with suits and briefcases among white folks in so called “good jobs”. and nobody was interested in the business…all three of them got laid off in the recession and being in their 50s and early 60s Corporate America is done with them…the 2 girls already moved back to the family home in ARK trying to live on what they can.. My friends father is still putting on his suit looking for work but at 58? No takers.. They just let the business collapse when their father died tom bout they were too educated to be cutting down trees now they have nothing but a couple of 401ks that arent even worth that much anymore
