Acquitted child killer George Zimmerman was arrested for throwing a wine bottle at an ex-girlfriend. Police just happened to be in the neighborhood when they heard glass shattering and an unidentified woman driving away from Zimmerman’s Orlando, Florida home last week.
According to the Associated Press, the “hysterical” woman told police Zimmerman threatened her about a painting he wanted her to return. She said he threw the bottle at her when she told him she didn’t want to take their relationship further.
Detectives described the woman as “extremely emotional, crying, mad and upset” when they pulled her over near Zimmerman’s house.
According to the police report obtained by the AP the woman became reluctant when she realized the officers might be conducting an investigation.
Police say the woman called Zimmerman “that psycho, George Zimmerman” and she said that she should have known better than to get involved with him.
Polcie say Zimmerman stayed in the home with the TV blaring for two hours while the officers knocked politely on his door to arrest him.
Zimmerman opened his door only after police assured him he could stay on the phone with his attorney while he talked to police.
Zimmerman was acquitted by a Florida jury on charges of murdering 17-year-old Trayvon Martin as the teen returned to a friend’s home inside a gated community where Zimmerman was a self-appointed neighborhood watchman.
Since his acquittal, Zimmerman has been arrested on numerous occasions for minor offenses. A judge ordered him to surrender his weapons to the court this week.
Zimmerman’s lawyer said his unemployed client “has not been lucky with the ladies.”
