British superstar FKA twigs dropped the music video for her first single, “Glass & Patron”, from her new EP titled EP3, due out later this year.
The video was directed by twigs and is presented by the 2015 YouTube Music Awards.
Twigs, a trained dancer, is more of a visual artist than a musician. Her newest music video incorporates nature with the rebirth of vogueing, a dance popularized by the gays in the ’80s and introduced to mainstream audiences by real musicians like Madonna.
It’s hard to not see twigs as an opportunist who exploits her relationship with her megastar boyfriend, actor Robert Pattinson. Artsy musicians like twigs are fairly commonplace in Europe. But dating Pattinson opens up a whole new audience for her across the pond in America.
But she does bring a refreshing new visual experience to a new generation of kids who are witnessing the slow death of the music video format.
