Atlanta police are searching for a gunman who fatally shot a father waiting at a MARTA bus stop with his 3-year-old daughter.
Dantavious Chatman, 31, was shot several times at a MARTA bus stop just before 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Police say the gunman drove up, got out of his car and shot Chatman, then got back into a car and drove off.
Chatman's daughter, Dakayla, was not injured.
The toddler's grandmother, Veronica Tuggle, told Channel 2 Actions News that Dakayla was trembling when she arrived at the bus stop to pick her up.
“She said, ‘My daddy just got shot,’” Tuggle told WSB. “Imagine: A 3-year-old. A 3-year-old?”
Relatives told WSB that Chatman was taking Dakayla back to her mother's house when he was shot.
He died later at Grady Memorial Hospital.
“What kind of animal would do this in front of a 3-year-old baby?” Tuggle told WSB. “Please tell me. I want to know why. Why did this young man kill my son in front of a 3-year-old? In front of his 3-year-old.”
