From what I’ve read, the root cause was because she had her cell phone out (not on it, but out), and the teacher has a strict policy about it. He asked to take her cell phone and she refused and that’s when an administrator was called.

While I think the teacher should have intervened, maybe he was afraid his intervention could have possibly caused the cop to shoot him…if the cop would go to the extent that he did with the student…there’s no telling what he would have done if the black male teacher had approached him in an attempt to diffuse the situation.

I don’t think it’s overtly racist… Not the ”jigga jigga jigga’ kind. What I believe is that he has some prejudices – either those that have been internalized based on white society’s stereotypes of black people, you know ‘thugs’, or those formed based on his experiences or a combination of both – that have been exacerbated by his work. IE, if he has been servicing low-income areas within his career, especially during night, where there is high criminal activity and those criminals follow a certain ‘profile’ ie young black men, it has clouded his judgment and gave him a bias against those same young black men. So now he has dehumanized black people that look like that profile, and approaches them with paranoia and insurmountable uncalled for aggression.

A good example of this would be returning soldiers who have had to deal with high violence from ‘Muslims,’ and then when they come back it is difficult for them to recognize their unfair prejudices and biases against said Muslims.

I think a lot of that happens to police officers over time as I read a lot of them get stuck in those same shifts for years. (There are some who are just racist & specifically choose a career that they can tout a gun and enact all kind of crazy against people – those officers tend to be all types of races). But it’s a problem that law enforcement needs to look at and they need to reorganize or rebuild or something because police brutality against minorities and blacks in particular is intensifying – and in general it’s a big concern.

She wasn’t being arrested. She was being asked to leave the class. She was on her cell phone in class and when the teacher asked her to hand it over she said no. So the teacher told her to leave and she said no. Then the prinicipal came and told her to leave and she said no. The the resource officer told her to leave and she said no. Now if I was any of them I would have fantasized about slapping the taste out of her mouth, but I wouldn’t have actually done it. I would have called moms right then an there. If worse came to worse maybe the office could have dragged her chair out of the class without trying to remove her from it. She wasn’t no freedom fighter.

There was a study done at Duke by some well known neurologist/psychiatrist (and a couple of other things he has like 37 degrees) that determined that there is a real FEAR of black people. I wish I could think of the name of the study. Very interesting. Particularly when they were tired or stressed (as many cops are)… it was more difficult to overcome their subconscious racist tendencies.

I was on the road to be a teacher once. Had to do sit downs in classroom for experience. Kids are bad as fluck. The one reason I stopped pursuing it. Because I don’t have the patience. But as a trained police officer, what he did was wrong. He literally yanked her back while she was still in her chair and on to the ground. He wasnt even trying to restrain her because close to the end of the vid, he threw her across the floor. No bueno. He coulda just put her in handcuffs but no he wanted to put her in her place.

But we don’t want to speak of the culture of violence within our own community. …and THAT is why WE have to be responsible for ourselves and teach our children to do so as well. Teach them how to respond in various situations (use this and the various other sad situations as examples). Well you are correct on that note. Alternative schools were a place where disruptive students were sent. But I think they were shut down because a lot of them did not leave students with a lot of opportunities after leaving the schools

I think the definition you posted applies more to bigotry than racism simply because racism generally implies a system of power or “system of disadvantage based upon race”. So in a vacuum, like maybe a company a black CEO can be racist because of the power aspect. But in every day America it would be bigotry not racism… mainly semantics

Chits reminds me of the kids I went to school with. I was bussed across town in elementary school to the white side. I noticed no one seemed bothered, scared or showed any reaction. This seems like the norm in this school. It also seems as if this is not the first time that officer has done this. Those kids and if that was the teacher in the white shirt looked like I’m not jumping in or saying anything. They are afraid of this man who apparently uses his power as an advantage. Dont get me wrong I see first hand how these teenagers are disrespectful and looking at this video does not compare to what I’ve seen these kids do. That’s why the schools need to be equipped with female officers in which some do not have which allow the male officers to do as they please with the teenage girls. That’s why we teach our kids do not disrespect or argue with an adult even if your in the right, that’s our job and you are to stay in your place as a kid.

I think that it’s inherent racism or prejudices that keeps police officers from using excessive force on yt kids – not the other way around. Excessive force is necessary when an individual isn’t willing to comply with an order or a demand. Police officers are meant to enforce the law not negotiate terms based on some emotional nonsense. Unless you are disabled, mentally incompetent, or a child, then you should understand when someone – note it took 3 individuals before the police officer was called – is telling you to get up and leave. I’ve seen officers use this type of force when a yt woman wouldn’t leave a T-Mobile store, and he body slammed her on the desk. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that we’re all a bit emotional and sensitive regarding physical altercations on black people and the police, but we need to know when to pick our battles and this little brat is not one that we should be battling for.
