love this post. truth is there is no such thing as pretty or ugly. there are those who know how to put on makeup and those who don’t. there are those willing to buy fake this and that and others who won’t. beauty is subjective. deferring to society’s prescribed notion of beauty gets boring after a while. i wanna see the real ones- the ones who get out there and grind day after day to make it happen. i wanna see the nobodies, they are the beautiful ones.

What kills me is that for the most part anyone that “looks” too dark without 10lbs of contoured makeup, 22 inch yaky or wavy hair weave then other BLACK people have something to say! It’s disturbing to me! I don’t see anything wrong with her it looks like she’s in her home chilling with her man. She’s not ugly or ruff looking. I’ve done the same with my neighbor who turns 91 in 2 weeks. She has become my new bff. She left me a thank you card and a Ty My Little Pony bag clip on my door today. I’ll be damned if I wasn’t on my head to get one! She is super cool.

She said she wanted candles for the new year, but they were too expensive! ($1.50/ea) Lol. I had a nice frosted eggnog candle in a jar that I left on her door, and a champagne split (187 ml bottle) for her for NYE. I wish I’d thought to get her a hat and necklace from Party City.

Black folks are quick to throw darts at other Black people when they don’t fit their standard of beauty or perceived intellect. It’s sad, because people will go on a stranger’s IG page and leave nasty, unsolicited comments like we’re not all adults and there isn’t somebody for everybody.

I have a straight friend, who’s African American, who once refused to date dark complexioned black women. He only dated women who looked like Vanity, Salli Richardson or Vanessa Williams.

Several years ago, he moved to the southwest and fell into a dating slump. Suddenly, all of the Vanitys and Sallis he was used to wining and dining, weren’t interested in him. Why?According to him, they were “only checking for white boys.”

Fast forward to today, he recently admitted that Michelle Obama is beautiful. He even proposed to a gorgeous chocolate woman who turned him down.

When I was a child, my paternal grandmother, who was Caucasian, openly expressed her dislike for African Americans and she really despised anyone who had dark skin. Although she admitted my mother, with her light complexion and green eyes, was “one of the most beautiful women she’d ever seen,” my grandmother didn’t want the family bloodline “tainted with black blood,” even if that black blood was in small doses.

One of my grandmother’s favorite sayings was, “If you’re white… alright! If you’re brown… stick around! If you’re black… get back!”

When I was 4 or 5, my grandmother came to my house with 3 bags of clothes and toys. My mother estimated she spent approximately $500. However, every item in those bags was for me. There wasn’t a single toy or piece of clothing for my younger, DARKER sister. My sister has dark hair, dark brown eyes, caramel colored skin and looks Hispanic. I, on the other hand, have light hair, green eyes, and pale skin.

My mother thanked my grandmother for the gifts, but told her she’d have to keep them at her house or she could take them back to the store. Unbeknownst to me, later that evening, my mom called my grandmother and told her she was no longer welcome in her home.

Over the coming years, with the assistance of my paternal great grandmother, whom I adored, my mother and racist granny, developed a more hospitable relationship, but I was the only child allowed to spend time at my grandmother’s house.

Living in two worlds, black and white, gives you a very unique perspective. I am perplexed by white racists, but I am equally confused by black on black hatred. To me, the girl in Sandra’s photo is beautiful and there is nothing wrong with her hair. As for her questionable writing skills, maybe that’s the way she expresses herself online. Maybe she has a different writing style when she’s in a professional setting.

I think the post is from the guy. Unless the girl just posts him on her page. This is not the best pic of the girl but she’s actually gorgeous to me. Maybe folks were wondering what she’s doing with a guy with horrible grammar.

I pray that this young woman isn’t actually in med school, because she writes on the level of a third grader. Anyone who writes so poorly can’t POSSIBLY navigate the complicated coursework of medical school, where so much of the terminology is derived from words that are Latin or Greek in origin. This woman can’t even write a simple ENGLISH sentence.

As black people, I agree that we should strive to EXCEL in 2016. However, we should also understand that WE ARE NOT AN INTELLECTUALLY INFERIOR RACE!!! So why are so many of us willing to settle for intellectual mediocrity, refusing to take the time to learn to WRITE and SPEAK as EDUCATED PROFESSIONALS? Instead of criticizing her appearance, we should all be shocked that she has managed to complete college without having learned to read and write.

My degree is from a top 10 law school. In my youth, I would NEVER have been hired by a reputable law firm if I wrote as if I hadn’t completed grammar school. Today, as president of my own real estate development firm, I couldn’t garner an iota of respect from my employees or my peers if I WROTE AND SPOKE ON A GRADE SCHOOL LEVEL. And THIS young woman, with her inferior language skills, will ONLY be hired if the health care provider’s standards are lowered dramatically. A patient’s life is too valuable to be sacrificed at the altar of Affirmative Action! If we want to progress, we should work JUST AS HARD AS OTHER RACES to be the SMARTEST and the BEST at what we do.

I have a rather formal style of writing, because that’s the way I speak.

Once, I wrote an anonymous review on Yelp. The next day, my sister called me and asked if I was the author. She said, she knew it had to be me, because of the way it was written. ?

when i first started commenting formally i would get responses like- i ain’t reading all that ish. still, others would complain about the level of terms used in my comments. then it was those who would complain about the content when most of those comments referred to newspaper articles written on an 8th grade reading level. it was then that i realized it wasn’t the audience at large at fault, it was myself. when in rome do as the romans. it is proper.

Schizophrenia runs on my father’s side of the family. Before she completely lost her mind, my grandmother was a law professor. Her illness forced her to retire.

Have times changed so much that this so called “hated on Nubian queen” is not required to be literate, articulate, nor at the very least able to spell in her aspirations to become a doctor.
